Blurb:

He’s broody, he’s driven, and he’s coming back to claim what’s his.

“First, do no harm…”
It’s the start of my oath as a doctor, and breaking that oath is how I began my career.
Only I didn’t just do harm, I watched a man die right in front of me.
And not just any man—a man I hated.

I thought his death would bring me peace, but it haunts me to this day.
Every close call sparks memories of what I did to him, to me, to her.
I have to go back and face what I’ve done or end my career.

Seeing her hits me harder than the regret.
She’s still so beautiful with long, dark hair, bright amber eyes, luscious curves.
She still dominates my heart, my mind, my bed.
But she’s different now—stronger, bolder, unafraid.

We’re a mess, tangled up in a web I created.
But I’m determined to heal these wounds, to fix this break.
One thing is certain, I won’t say goodbye to her again.

(A STAND-ALONE “Bayside Heroes” romance. Small-town, second-chance doctor romance with a touch of suspense. No cheating. No cliffhanger.)

My Review

This was the final book in this series and Beck was a character who had been around the other characters in the other books, but we hadn’t gotten a good look into his life. Part of it is because during the time all these stories were taking place, he was actually out of town. At a mansion he owned in the small town where one of his former best friends, also first loves, Carly, lives. Carly didn’t live in the town anymore either, but she had to go back due to some things that were putting her in danger with her job. I liked how we got a lot of fun characters in this new small town, while still a little bit of time spent with our favorite characters here and there from the other books. But all the characters in this small town were also ones I would love to spend time with, seeing some of them get their own HEAs. Another thing I really liked about this story is how the couple was able to get back together sooner, and the final big dramatic part of the book wasn’t them breaking up over a silly misunderstanding.

From the blurb you get a little bit of a hint about something that happened in the past that kept Beck away from Carly, but we learn all the details as the story progresses and I like the way they all fit in. In a way I think Beck and Carly both overreacted to the things that drove them apart, but in the end as I said, they were able to communicate and get back what they’d had before, but even better. Oh, I also was a fan of how the author could start a new chapter/scene in the middle of sexy times. Instead of it always being something we had to get the whole scene. It makes it so you can still enjoy those scenes, but they don’t become the whole concentration of a chapter instead of other events that might happen.

A great story and I hope to finally read more by this author in the future, maybe with some of the characters we met in this one?
