I’m connecting up once again with Kimberly at Caffeinated Reviewer.
Sunday was another nice “cool” day for summer. If my crazy dogs didn’t eat stuff off the ground, we could have sat outside and enjoyed the morning. Instead I came back in and did a load of laundry, started my counter top icemaker up, and did some blogging. Then we got together for my sister’s birthday at my dad’s house. Had homemade tacos and then birthday cake. Sat and talked for awhile. Then she wanted to go down to her house since she’d been out of town all week on vacation at Yellowstone Park the last week. Came home, did a bit of blogging, played some more of the video game I got last week, and watched tv.
Monday I started calling to get estimates on getting the tree removed first thing in the morning. Also did some cleaning around the house. I wish I could afford to replace my kitchen linoleum as it has all the little indentations that make it so much more of a pain to scrub out dirt. Oh well, future purchase. Still only in the mid-80s for the temps, which is nice! Finished up the book I needed to have a review posted for today. Then did some blog commenting! Rewatched Outlander while I played the new Palia game on my Nintendo Switch Lite. I think it is harder in some ways on that device, but I’m still playing! Got the e-galley of the Helena Hunting latest book to read since I wasn’t getting it done in audio now that I’m not driving to and from work every day. Almost finished the book before bed.
Tuesday I remembered that I hadn’t even checked in on the last week of my one online class and that my next class had started this week, so I spent most of my morning working on stuff for that. I also finished up the Hunting book so I can get the review done on time. Went to my endocrinologist to check on my thyroid issues, she had me do bloodwork, but otherwise said everything seemed okay if I wasn’t having any new symptoms or issues. I went over to my mom’s house for leftovers from the Sunday dinner I didn’t get to go to, and then she and I watched a movie I kept seeing an ad for on Facebook called Alone.

Wednesday was technically payday. But since my district gives us both our July paychecks at the end of June, I had to put mine in savings and then take each amount back out on the actual dates so I wouldn’t spend it accidentally. So my first morning task was paying bills. Then I was supposed to go with my dad and stepmom to see the Disney 100 Exhibition at Union Station here in Kansas City. However just my dad showed up at the time they had planned to pick me up and said my stepmom was sick and we would go without her. But since it was her idea, I called and told her we would wait till she was better and then we’d go. So instead my dad helped by getting the closer thing on my front door and measured the boards on my back deck that need to be replaced. I then ended up driving out to some furniture stores across town with my mom as I look for a new couch to replace the one I bought about 4. years ago that is giving out already. It was cheap, and definitely can tell since it has only really had me use it.
Thursday morning I jumped in my car at 7:30 am once I finally got out of bed and drove across to the Duck Donut shop and grabbed their Shark Week dozen. My dad showed up at 8 am to fix the wood on my back deck and he was done pretty quickly. I’ll still need to sand it probably and get some paint or stain to put on it too.

After he was done we sat and talked for a little bit. When he left I got on my online classes and did some forum discussion. My last project for my Canva class was to make a tutorial video, so I was dragging my feet on that as I hate my voice and recording it. Then I did some blogging and visiting other blogs to comment. I got a text from my stepmom saying she and my dad had Covid. Which meant his surgery next week would have to be postponed. My mom and I went and had Chinese food for dinner. It was hot all day, but had some rain in the night. Where my brother lived they had very large, at least golf ball sized hail and now he thinks he might have to get his whole roof replaced.
Friday morning was hot. I did sleep in. Then finally recorded the video for my Canva class, with barking interruptions and issues with getting my laptop to give permission to the Screencastify site. But now I’m done with that class. Did some blogging, and hung out with the dogs, before going to see a movie with my mom in the evening.
Saturday was hot. I got to go watch my nephew pay basketball with my mom and then we had lunch with my brother’s family before going to watch my niece’s volleyball game. Then I came home and relaxed in the air conditioning and finished up the book I had planned to review.
Books Finished

First was the ARC I started over the weekend. Second was the e-audiobook that I listened to for the author’s review team. Third was an e-galley, I’d been supposed to get a physical copy as part of a PR team, but since it didn’t show up I read the e-galley. Fourth was an e-galley the publisher sent me. All reviews except the last one were posted this past week.
New Additions to My Library
ARCs:

I won this over on Goodreads. I think I already had an e-galley, but am happy to have the physical ARC as well.
Audiobooks:
None
Bookish Stuff:

So this fun thing may not seem book related, however I won it from a live chat on Facebook with three of the authors from the Farm 2 Forking series. Which I still need to read! But It’s something to use to butter corn on the cob! How cute is it? I got it from Lainey Davis.
E-galleys:

This one is for a blog tour review in September!
Free E-books:

First is one I forgot to add to my long list last week. It was also free on Amazon. Second was another Amazon freebie by a favorite author that I haven’t read this one yet. All the rest were also free on Amazon, the author posted about it on Facebook.

These two weren’t free. But the second one just came out, and since I hadn’t ever gotten the first one from last summer I think, I gave in and just bought the two e-books. I don’t like to buy e-books, prefer to only pay for physical or audio, but I do need to read these. And if I ever find them as physical, I’ll probably add them to my shelves that way too.
Physical Books:

What I’m Watching
Finished My Lady Jane. Wondering if they do another season if it will stay with these characters, or if it will go to the second book in the series which I think is completely different characters. When I went to cancel Starz again last weekend, I got another offer for $1.99 a month for 2 months. So of course I kept it. And of course that means I continue my millionth or so rewatch of Outlander. I also decided to start a rewatch of Cobra Kai to prepare for the next season coming out this week.
Tuesday night I watched the movie Alone on Netflix with my mom. We liked it except the very abrupt ending.
Friday night went and saw the new horror movie Longlegs. I liked the plot, but I feel like they messed it up trying to be too artsy. Still enjoyed it though.
What’s Coming Up Next Week

First three are e-galleys from publishers. Fourth is an audiobook from the author for a blog tour.
This is going to be an exciting week! On Monday I’ll drive to St. Louis for an author event with Ashley Poston and Kirsty Greenwood. I haven’t read Greenwood yet, but will probably buy her latest book while I’m at the event. I’ll stay the night in St. Louis and then drive home Tuesday morning. Not so exciting is my dad’s knee surgery on Thursday and getting the dogs in to see the vet for their annual check up on Friday.
Final Thoughts
In a way this is my last full week of “summer break” starting tomorrow. Starting on the 22nd I have meetings for next school year. And also the 25th. Debating still about going to the MASL PD on the 26th. It would mean getting a hotel room and not sure I want to mess with that right now.
How is July going for you so far?
Oh yeah, and I’m really starting to use the Bookly app. Now the number of pages isn’t accurate for the fastest pace with Voyager, because even though it pulled it from my Goodreads transfer, it didn’t show what page I was already on. So just learning how to use this, I put in that I did all those pages that one night, which obviously I did not read 589 pages in an hour, lol.

Sounds like a decent week! I can’t remember the last day we had with tolerable temps. It might have been Sunday or Monday…I don’t get out much! Unless it’s to the mailbox when I’m expecting something! Lol. Today and tomorrow we have heat advisories so I might leave the mailbox to my parents! My dad actually likes this heat and my late grandmother did too. I seemed to have missed that gene! That Disney Expo sounds amazing! I would so go if it was closer but KC is a little too far just the one thing. I wish it could’ve stopped in St. Louis too! Oh well!
Nice new reads too! These are all new to me ones and congrats on the win for the corn butterer thingy! I was looking at that and it seems familiar but I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen one in action. Hope you enjoy your new reads and win!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
We’ve got the heat for the next few days, although I think it will cool down by Wednesday or Thursday. I only know about the corn butterer because of the authors talking about it, lol. I’d hoped to win one of the books, but this was fun too.
I sense a theme here – it was hot. A productive week. It’s nice your dad could help you with your deck. I’ve heard the latest COVID is more severe so I hope they recover quickly. I’m certainly hearing about more people having it.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Yep, hot! lol I actually had heard the latest Covid wasn’t as bad as Covid 19, that it was more like the years of Covid virus we had before Covid-19. My dad wasn’t actually showing much symptoms other than what he usually had from allergies normally, so who knows! My stepmom was feeling sick and so it was bad for her though. She’s been completely vaccinated but seems to keep getting it!
Sounds like you had a good week. Sorry to hear that your dad is sick… hope you don’t get it too! The Disney exhibition sounds fun. Hopefully you can reschedule soon. I haven’t looked into Bookly. I swear I can’t handle one more tracking app. LOL
Well, my dad tested positive for Covid, but he didn’t have it very bad. It was more my stepmom that was sick. So far I seem to be okay! I do hope we get to go to the Disney thing before it is gone. Yeah, I’m now using 3 different tracking apps for reading. Honestly I’d quit Goodreads if publishers didn’t still look at it so much. And if it didn’t have my last 12 or 14 years reading on it.
I not sure how accurate the pages are i always make sure i check to see what the actual page number is and change it if needed. Sometimes it pretty close other times it way off. I mostly like the reports cause it puts all the books i read and it it a fun graphic less work for me. I hope that you have a great week. I got lots of reading i need to do over the next few weeks. I joined 4 fable groups and i read one out of the 4. One i won’t be able to do the wait time at the library is really long it for funny story. The other two are james patterson maximum ride series and the other is the serpent and the wings of night. I also have started working on books for my jla club.
Yes, I do love the graphic! With the book pictures it is so cool! Looking forward to using it at the end of the month too. Glad you found a bunch of fables to join into!
My friends and I recently discovered an new game on the Switch. It’s so fun and just really charming. It’s Boomerang FU. It’s so fun and very addicting.
I’m glad you had a good time at your dad’s for your sister’s birthday. I’m sorry to hear that your stepmom and dad have COVID. I hope you don’t get it since you were around your dad for quite a while.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I’ll have to check that game out! Is it free? So far I seem to be synptom free thankfully.
I’m glad you’re symptom free. Hopefully, it stays that way.
Boomerang FU isn’t free but it was only $5 when I bought it about a month ago.
Oh, that’s not bad at all! I’ll check it out!
Sorry to hear your step mom and dad are ill, though dad really came through with the home repairs. Hope they have a mild case of the virus and recover quickly. I went to the Disney 100 Exhibition when I was in Chicago in March. It was well done. There were some interesting bits and neat displays. May you enjoy it when you finally get to go. I would take mid 80s. We are over 90 and so humid. It just started pouring which I am good with. It usually makes it feel better for a bit. I think tomorrow is forecast for 97 and then 99 the day after. Here I am hoping the weather man is wrong. Enjoy your first full week of your break!
Yeah, my dad never seemed to get the more severe symptoms my stepmom had, his were more like just allergies. I hope to get to go see the Disney 100 before it leaves. We have had the 90s with heat indexes in the triple digits the last feew days. Ugh. This is really going to be the LAST full week of my break, lol.
So sad to hear your family is being impacted by COVID. I previously enjoyed Julie Murphy’s books but find them a little too steamy once she buddied with her friend. Have a great week Lisa.
I think her adult romances are steamy, but really steamy with Sierra Simone for sure! Thanks for visiting!
Congrats on finishing your class! Sorry your stepmom and dad got sick – hope they’re both feeling back to normal soon!!
I think they’re mostly doing better. Now just waiting to see when they’ll reschedule my dad’s surgery for.
Sorry about the illnesses. I hope you’re able to enjoy your last week of summer. I need to check out the Bookly app (if I ever have time to read again).
Ah, sorry you’re having no time to read! I’m feeling that way a bit this week with my houseguest.
I can’t believe you start school next week (well sort of). Both Alone and Longlegs look pretty scary, but I can see what you mean about Longlegs being very artsy. Enjoy your week, Lisa!
I mean, it is meetings about next school year, but yeah, have to get back in the mindset. My official first day back is July 30th.
Oh… a counter top ice maker. I need to look into that. Every summer our ice maker in our fridge stops making ice – the temps mess it up some how. It sucks not having ice when we need it the most!
I hope you enjoy the tale end of your summer vacation. I guess no other job offer came? I hope this year is better for you.
It’s been hot for northern New England – 90 every day. I’ve been to the beach once, but mostly I’m getting stuff done around the house and planning my European trip for the fall.
When I moved into my house back in 2019, I wanted to just replace the fridge with no icemaker. But then I didn’t have the money, so I just bought ice constantly. A year or so ago I asked for an ice maker for my Christmas present. It’s nice, but takes up a lot of room. But for now I’m giving up on buying the filtered water and just using water straight from the faucet. When it wears out, maybe I’ll have money for a new fridge or be living somewhere else, lol.
Nope, no other job offer. Just going to go into this school year hoping it will be better and doing my best to make it that way. Ooh, can’t wait to hear about your trip!
Sounds like you had a nice mix of relaxing and enjoying family time and getting chores done! Sorry to hear your parents got Covid! I’ve heard it’s making a comeback lately. Hope hey recover quickly!
So far they seem to be getting better, although my stepmom has some of the long covid after effects I think right now.
Sounds like you had a productive week. It’s been SOOOO hot here. We actually got up at 7am on both weekend days so we could take the pups out to walk before it got too hot. They have missed so much outside time this summer already. During the week, by the time Mr. Barb gets home, the heat indexes are already up to 93 or higher and I refuse to walk them in that. Boxers have short snouts and do not do heat well. I haven’t been blogging or visiting much since I had vacation in July and am trying to get back in the swing of things. We watched The Exorcism with Russell Crowe over the weekend as well as a movie called Bikeriders Mr. Barb wanted to see. Both were pretty good and Bikeriders starred Austin Butler so at least there was someone to look at. I just saw Snow Place Like Home on Hoopla and grabbed it the other day. Need some “fluff” in my life. Hope you have a wonderful week.
Ooh, my mom and I wanted to see The Exorcism, but it was already gone from the local theater by the time we realized it was out. So we’ll catch it on streaming. I’m so thankful our temps are going down for the next week here!
Sounds like you got a bunch of things done. Glad to hear you’re havign fun with that game. I hope your dad’s okay with gettign tested positive for Covid. And that’s nice you finished that canva class. Too bad about the wheather being so warm, we had a pretty cool and wet summer so far, but we’re having some warm days now, I don’t like those. Your new books look great, I hope they’re all good ones.
Luckily my dad never really got sick. My stepmom is feeling better, but says she’s really tired now. We’re having lovely cool weather this week!
Sounds like a good week, just busy enough. We are having hot weather right now. Maybe not that hot for some, but for us it’s pretty unusual and I’m not loving it. I need it to be a few degrees cooler. Hope you have a wonderful week ahead!
It was a lot cooler the end of the week for us!
