Escape to chic and glamorous Paris!

When Poppy Phillipson loses her chocolate-making business in the Blossomwood Bay fire, she’s heart-broken; all her hopes and dreams wiped out in the space of an hour. As if that wasn’t enough, her last three dates were a complete disaster – one two-hour lecture on the intricacies of the off-side rule, one no-show, and an embarrassing abandonment mid-date – and she’s having a hard time not to take it personally.

So, when her brother asks her to come to the rescue of his friend Olivier Bourdain, owner of Pâtisserie Madeliene, following a freak skiing accident, she decides it’s the perfect way to escape the Devonshire drizzle and enjoy a petit sojourn from all-thing romance exploring the boutiques and boulevards of elegant Paris.

However, when she meets handsome French chef Fabien Dumont, with his sexy accent and dark brooding eyes, her determination to take a dating hiatus is severely tested. Should she concentrate on improving her skills as a pâtissière, or should she throw caution to the wind and embrace everything the City of Light has to offer… including the possibility of love?

Join Poppy as she heads to the dazzling city of Paris, and enjoy a story filled with delicious French pâtisserie and a soupçon of heart-warming romance.

1.  What does your writing process look like? Do you know the whole story when you start?  Or do you just start writing and go with it (seat of the pants writing)?  If you plan it out, how do you do that?  Outline, notecards, post-it-notes, etc.?    Since you write books that are connected, do you know what characters will be getting future books as you write the books before?

Hi Lisa, thanks so much for having me as a guest on your blog.

I think I would put myself in the category of a plotter, especially when I’m writing a series like the Blossomwood Bay series. As there are eight beach hut that are destroyed in a devastating fire, I did know at the outset which characters would have a story to tell about what happened afterwards. As I write each book, I make lots of notes about the character I’m writing about as they will be appearing in subsequent books and it’s important to me to get the detail right.

2. Do you edit as you go, or wait till you’re finished before you edit?  How many times would you say you go over it yourself before having another set of eyes look it over?

That’s an interesting question. I know the advice is to get that first draft down as quickly as you can without interruption, but I just can’t seem to do that, so I edit as I go. That means when I get to the end my manuscript is fairly clean, but it still needs a thorough edit as a whole to make sure nothing is missing as the story does evolve as it’s written, and earlier storylines might need to be amended. I do several full edits before the manuscript is sent to my editor, by which time, I hope, my story flows.

3.  Are you part of a writers group that gets together and helps each other with their writing?

I’m a member of several groups that support each other with writing as well as the marketing & publicity side of the profession which can be challenging to navigate. We share ideas, ask questions, and generally make sure that no one feels like they’re alone.

4.  How do you come up with your ideas for your stories?

It can be a snippet of conversation, or a story a friend has told over coffee, or people watching at a pavement café. Sometimes, it just takes a tiny spark to ignite a whole storyline!

5.  How long have you been writing?

All my life really, on and off. But my first book was published in 2013, so it’s been eleven years as a published author.

6.  What tips do you have for aspiring writers?

The best tip I was given when I started out was to just keep going. Like lots of writer, I have tons of rejections at the beginning of the journey. It was difficult to navigate, but I remembered that piece of advice and “just kept going”. I wrote another book, hoping it would be better than the last, and my third book was picked up. I was over the moon!

7.  As a romance writer, do you have a favorite romance book or author?

There’s too many to mention! I do love Milly Johnson and Sophie Kinsella, though.

8.   What are your favorite:

Food/Writing snack

My favourite writing snack is a cup of tea & a biscuit. I’m always drinking tea, any tea, black tea, green tea, iced tea, Earl Grey, Chamomile, peppermint… well, you get the idea. And tea has to have a biscuit with it. In fact, my Newsletter is called “Notes from a Cookie Jar” because that’s where you can generally find me – standing next to the cookie jar!

Love Daisy

Daisy James loves writing stories with strong heroines and swift-flowing plotlines. She especially likes to create sunshine-filled settings in exotic locations – the Caribbean, Tuscany, Cornwall, Provence – so she can spend her time envisioning her characters enjoying the fabulous scenery and sampling the local food and drink.

When not scribbling away in her peppermint-and-green summerhouse (garden shed), she spends her time sifting flour and sprinkling sugar and edible glitter. She loves gossiping with friends over a glass of something fizzy or indulging in a spot of afternoon tea – china plates and teacups are a must.
