My book boyfriends go with me everywhere. I prefer them tall, dark and handsome, but I don’t discriminate. They sweep me off my feet and are always there when I need them—in my purse, in my car, and even in my bathtub. Book boyfriends may not be real, but at least they won’t break my heart… or get another girl pregnant. I don’t do relationships. I get one whiff and run in the opposite direction. It took me seven years to mend my broken heart, and I’m not about to hand it over again. That’s why I can’t fall for Beckett. With his Clark Kent glasses and brooding stare, he’s a superhero in disguise. And his superpower? Melting panties with a single glance. The problem is, Beckett wants to win my heart. His genius mind and washboard abs are a tempting combination, but I’ll never fall in love again. Even though I want Beckett between the sheets, I plan to keep my boyfriends between the pages, where I can close the book when things get ugly and a happy ending is guaranteed. My heart is sure it wants nothing to do with Beckett. Now if only I could get him off my mind…

Jill Brashear’s love of books began with a way-too-early reading of a steamy western romance her Great-Aunt Thelma left lying around the house. Her romance novels are both sweet and steamy, like Hallmark with a side of smut. She can’t imagine a world without book boyfriends and dirty martinis (blue cheese olives, please).

Q&A with Author Jill Brashear
  • Tell us about the process of turning your book into an audiobook.
    • Creating Love, Lacey Donovan was a dream come true. Erin Spencer from One Night Stand Studios made everything happen. She asked me who my number one choice would be for narrator. I said Emma Wilder, and Erin did the rest.
  • Was a possible audiobook recording something you were conscious of while writing?
    • Yes. I tried to think about limiting dialogue tags, and I also wrote it from a single POV because I wanted it to be done by one narrator.
  • How did you select your narrator?
    • I listen to a lot of audiobooks and I have a fair number of crushes! Emma Wilder does a spot-on southern accent. I knew she would be perfect to voice Beckett Vinroot.
  • Are you an audiobook listener? What about the audiobook format appeals to you?
    • Of course!! I love listening to audiobooks while I cook or walk my dog. I love the way a narrator brings new life to the words.
  • If this title were being made into a TV series or movie, who would you cast to play the primary roles?
    • Dakota Fanning as Lacey Donovan and Gregg Sulkin as Beckett Vinroot
  • In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of writing a stand-alone novel vs. writing a series?
    • The pros of writing a stand-alone would be you don’t have to keep track of everything you’ve written, and you will never write yourself into a corner. One of the pros of writing a series is that you get to revisit characters from earlier novels. I love the homey feel of a series. At the start the books the reader already feels connected to the setting and the characters.
  • Have any of your characters ever appeared in your dreams?
    • Love, Lacey Donovan started with a dream. The plot was a little hazy when I woke up, but I knew I had something meaty to work with. Lacey began as an executive assistant with a side hustle as a dog walker.
  • What’s your favorite:
    • Food- Pizza
    • Song- My Shot from Hamilton
    • Book- A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway
    • Television show- Mad Men
    • Movie- When Harry Met Sally
    • Band- The Beatles
    • Sports team- Carolina Panthers
    • City- Asheville, NC
  • Are any of those things referenced in appearance in your work?
    • Mossy Oak, NC is a fictional town inspired by Asheville. It is a mountain town with a winery, a bookstore, and a hot yoga studio. What else could you want?
  • What bits of advice would you give to aspiring authors?
    • Just keep writing. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else because everyone has different goals for their writing and is at a different stage of their career.
  • What’s next for you?
    • I have two books coming out in 2021 and a series of Christmas novellas. And hopefully all will be made into audiobooks.
