Weekly Wrap-Up #48 – January 2nd, 2022

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer) and with Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Reading Reality).

You guys, it is officially 2022! We made it out of 2021! Yay! Please, please, please let this year be better than last year! Yesterday you hopefully got to see my End of the Month/End of the Year post. And I had to do a fun New Year’s Eve type of button for this week’s post as you can see above! So, I hope everyone was able to celebrate the beginning of 2022 however they wanted to or were comfortable doing. Let’s talk about my last week:

So, Sunday night we had my mom’s side of the family get together for Christmas. My 4 year old nephew got to play with my cousin’s soon to be stepdaughter, same age, and I think they had a blast. We all had fun watching them play and listening to them talk to each other. My nine year old niece did some craft activities with them and joined in a bit as well. I gave my stepdad a Chiefs shirt and my sister-in-law gave my brother a Travis Kelce shirt, since he has an imagined bromance with the Chiefs player. And we like to say that even though Kelce couldn’t play in the game Sunday night, my brother wearing the shirt meant he was there in person and our team won anyway!

Monday was a blah day. I actually went and had my hairdresser add some red highlights because for some reason she had just done a solid dark brown on the top of my head when I saw her before Christmas, which was not what I’d wanted. But she was nice enough to fit me in on her day off and fix that for me.

Tuesday I got to play with puppies, always the best way to spend a day. Then I had a dentist appointment, and in the evening I got to go with my brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew to see Sing 2. I’ve never seen the first one, but I did enjoy this one for sure. The music was fun! Here are puppy pictures!

Wednesday I cancelled an appointment I had and decided it would be the one day this holiday break from school that I would get to stay in my pjs all day and not go anywhere. I filed a claim for my car damage I showed you last Sunday with my insurance and set up an appointment for Thursday to get an estimate for repair.

Thursday I went and got the estimate for the car repairs. They aren’t able to fit me in for repair until the beginning of February. Oh well. I also went and used the gift cards I got from my mom to buy a new smart tv for my bedroom. Since Google Fiber tv service is going away, they’re only going to offer their internet service, I’ve got to figure out what I’m going to do. And so now I have smart tvs in both the living room and the bedroom, just need to figure out the antenna thing and decide if I can survive on just streaming!

Friday morning I got the new tv and the antenna set up. The antenna works for most of the local stations. It is just a little bit pixelating sometimes. For NYE we had the usual dinner at my brother’s house where my nine year old niece and four year old nephew come up with a little pop-up one night of the year restaurant, called Cafe 2022 this year. My nephew gave us a pre-dinner Spider-Man stunt show. My niece did a lot of the cooking with my brother and sister-in-law as well as making and decorating with her cake decorating set she got for Christmas some yummy cupcakes. We also got a mid-meal magic show from my niece with one of her other Christmas gifts. (Ignore the bit taken out of my sandwich, I forgot to take a picture before I decided to eat. lol)

Saturday we got snow! Not as much as they originally said we might, but still the first real snow of the winter for us with the roller coaster of temps we’ve had this past month, up to 60s and low 70s a few days, then back down to 40s, then back up, over and over. Here is a picture of the snow. You can see the ground was warm enough that it didn’t cover the grass that well. This was taken about 3 pm on Saturday, and the snow was still coming down very lightly. I spent the rest of my day just relaxing and watching tv and going to comment on blogs!

Books Finished:

The first two were reviewed this past week. The second two are for reviews this coming week.

New books:

Physical Books:

As I mentioned last week, I ordered 4 books for myself since I didn’t get any of them for Christmas. And also two were sequels to books I just finished and want to read on in the series! The bottom two I’ve read, but wanted to own physical copies.

And then, Barnes & Noble decided to do a 50% off all hardcovers sale, and guess who couldn’t resist? I’d hoped to find some others, but I didn’t, so this is what I came home with.

Now, I own all the Harry Potter books, but the first four I only have in paperback. So I had hoped to get them all in hardcover with this sale. Unfortunately the only ones they had in stock were 2 and 3 during the sale. So I’ll be getting books 1 and 4 at a later time in hardback I guess. The bottom one I just saw on a table and had to get because I love Kevin Smith. The top two are books I wanted to read this past year but never got to. Still don’t know when I’ll get to them, but they were half price and can now sit on my shelves and wait to be read I guess. lol

I got an ARC of So This is Ever After by F.T. Lukens from the publisher this past week. Here is the instagram post I made for it.

E-galleys:

Only one new e-galley this week. I’m on this author’s review team and so I will probably be reading and reviewing this next week, although I’m still hoping to get a couple other e-galleys, one from Emma Hart, and one from Staci Hart, but haven’t heard for sure on either of those. The Staci Hart I had penciled into my blog to review on the same day I will do this one, so who knows.

Free e-books:

So, I might have gotten too many this week when a couple authors posted a link to like over 500 free books.

What I’m Watching:

I got to go to the movies with my brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew this week and we saw Sing 2, which I haven’t seen the first one, but I did enjoy this one. Then so exciting that Cobra Kai season 4 is out now! Started that New Year’s Eve.

I also started watching Station Eleven. I had to get HBO Max for the Harry Potter anniversary special, so figured why not watch this while I waited. The first episode was really good, but I haven’t moved on yet.

Giveaways to Check Out:

How was your week? Did you do anything for New Year’s Eve? Did you get any good books? Are you binging any tv series you’d recommend? What are you looking forward to this upcoming week?

My sister-in-law was an art major and worked for a furniture company that designed furniture and office spaces. So she’s very artistic. I always expect her to have beautiful stuff in their house. Yeah, I wanted the snow for Christmas, not excited about going back to school tomorrow and the roads not being cleared. Oh well.

  1. Your Christmas sounds so nice! Thank you for sharing the photos. I was relieved work was relatively slow this past week. I think I was still in holiday mode. I wouldn’t mind for another slow week this week, but that is probably too much to ask for. The snow is so lovely! I don’t like the cold, and so am glad to only have to see it in pictures. 🙂

I am sorry the guy online didn’t work out. Hopefully someone will come along who you will hit it off with.

I hope you enjoy your new books and have a great week, Lisa!

Slow weeks at work are nice! We are back to school on Tuesday, well teachers, students on Wednesday. The snow was nice for the day, but I’m ready for it to be gone now. lol

Yes! And season 4 has been really good! Saving two episodes for tonight and then I’ll be done! Thanks for visiting!

  2. You family holiday looks like fun and yay books! I’m looking forward to a relaxed week without the holiday or projects. Why? So I can do more projects I have in mind! These are sewing and quilting and maybe knitting projects I haven’t done for awhile with all the house things I’d been doing. Happy New Year!

I’m sure you are so ready to do things not house related! Enjoy that! I’ll be back to school this week. It seems like break was so short this year!

  3. I saw Sing 2 yesterday with my dad. He hasn’t seen the first one, but I had and been wanting to go. I really enjoyed it. Love the music! I haven’t read much lately because I’ve been sick through the holidays, but hopefully I’ll get more books in soon.

It was really cute. Oh, I hate when I’m so sick I can’t even read. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

I’m very happy that one of my best friends is a breeder, and that I get to play with puppies all the time! I know people would try to call her a “backyard breeder” but she has a science background and does genetic testing and breeds for healthy and happy puppies. And her back yard is where I get to go play with them, but they all stay in her house when she has litters. If it’s really cold I’ve played inside the house with them too. Plus she takes care of my dogs when I go out of town and is a fellow writer!

And puppy time is the best!

      • Oh, that is so sweet! I think there are plenty of good breeders out there like that – to me, a backyard breeder is just someone who randomly lets their dog get pregnant and sells the puppies without any real care or knowledge. I’ve adopted three dogs, but we also bought our last puppy (Digit) from an Amish farm, and I don’t think that was necessarily a bad thing.

Oh my goodness those puppies are absolutely adorable! That must have been so much fun! And yay for getting to spend time with family, I’m so happy for you ♥! And yay for being able to go to the B&N sale! We got over 5 feet of snow, and the closest store is over an hour away, so I didn’t feel like driving 2 hours there and then another 2 hours back in the snow, the disadvantages of living in rural Tahoe lol!

    • Lisa Mandina

Wow! You got a ton of snow! Yeah, I wouldn’t have driven anywhere for the sale either. It’s probably an advantage though to not go spend money like I did. lol
