Weekly Wrap-Up #103 – January 22nd, 2023

Posted January 22, 2023 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 34 Comments

As usual I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

Sunday was a mostly quiet day. I did an online recorded interview for the school district I graduated from, that I’d really like to go back and work for, especially since I still live there. However I think I’d have to take an almost $10,000 paycut to go there, so don’t know. Still going to try though! Had Sunday night dinner at my mom’s house again this week. It was also nice having Monday off for MLK day, so that meant an extra sleep in morning.

Monday was another nice sleeping in morning. But then I made myself get up and go do some things I needed to do. Like grocery shopping so I could make sure I was doing better about eating healthy. Did some blogging, reading, watching tv.

Tuesday was hard to get up, but knowing there would be no students made it a little easier. I felt sorry for the student that their parent had driven them up to school and rolled down the window as I was walking in to ask if they had school today. Poor kid didn’t get to sleep in. Not a ton to do at school, but did get my desk neatened up, lol. Had a dentist appointment after school, then came home, blogged and watched tv.

Wednesday was crazy busy and the students had early release like a normal Wednesday. It was the first day of second semester though. I had a heating check-up scheduled for the evening. What I hate about this company though is that they don’t give you a time frame. They just say some time during the day. I asked for after 3 pm. But at 4 pm I still didn’t even have a time estimate. So I tried calling and all they could tell me was that the person assigned to come to my house was on another job and they didn’t know anything else. So I cancelled. I was just too tired to sit around and wait, and with my luck they’d show up as soon as I started cooking or sat down to eat dinner. Knowing it was just one of their “preventative” appointments, but where they find something they want to sell you on, just not in the mood. I actually tried to cancel the monthly payment service back in December, but they convinced me to keep it for 6 months for free. And scheduled the appointment. You’d think they could at least give you a 4 hour or 2 hour window.

Thursday was a crazy busy day. My library clerk got called to the office for the first few hours because of all the late students every morning and one of the secretaries was out. But of course I was crazy busy with all the new students and then we also had several students coming back from long term suspension. And I had to get computers for all of them. We had a staff meeting after school, so I was there for a half hour later than normal. In the evening I went with my mom and stepdad to the RV show. It’s always fun looking at them. Since I won’t have one ever probably, I enjoy the really big fancy ones. We saw one that had a little office room in it! That was my favorite.

Oh my gosh, Friday was insane. By myself for the first half of the day because my clerk had to help her husband out, it was one thing after another. But it didn’t really get any better once she got to school, because they she had to cover the nurse’s lunch as usual, and then more and more stuff kept being the same all day. I was ready for the weekend by the time I got to go home.

Saturday morning I went out shopping with my mom. Then spent the rest of the day at home. We got a little snow starting about 2 pm. The Chiefs played the Jaguars on Saturday after they got the bye weekend last week. And it was a game that had me feeling ALL the emotions! The Jags played a great game and it was pretty close in my opinion. At the beginning our QB got hurt, and at that point my stomach just got so sick. If Mahomes is out, could we win? I mean we have a good team, and our backup QB did a great job when the coaches made Mahomes come out of the game and get checked out. But he came back, and we were able to get the points and get far enough ahead to win. I’ll be rooting for the Bengals to win on Sunday because if they do, we’ll get to play the next game here in KC.

Books Finished

The first one was a book I bought last year in the thoughts that I would be meeting the author in February. That signing got cancelled due to another author on the tour being sick. Well technically it was postponed till August. The second book was for the library committee I’m on. I’d really enjoyed this author’s other book I read, and this one was really weird, but in the end I really did like it. The third book was for a blog tour this past week.

New Additions to My Library

ARCs:

The publisher reached out and asked if I wanted to read this and I did, so they sent me a copy. Should be reading for a review when it comes out in February.

Audiobooks:

This one is for a blog tour review coming up in February.

Bookish Stuff:

None

E-galleys:

I signed up through the publisher’s Facebook group, and they sent me the Netgalley widget for this one. It comes out in May, so look for my review closer to that time! Although I do see they are doing a group read for it in the Entangled Insiders group on Facebook.

Free e-books:

The first one was for signing up for an author’s newsletter. The rest were free on Amazon.

Physical books:

So both books in the first picture were for RockStar Book tours. The second one I already read and posted my tour stop. But I’ll be donating it to my school library. The first one is for a review coming up next week! The second picture was a book I won from the author for entering a newsletter giveaway.

And I think this will be the last books I get for the library book award committee I’m on. The two that are face out are nonfiction and so are not eligible for the nomination, but I think all the rest are possibilities!

What I’m Watching

Still doing an Outlander rewatch as I prepare for my trip! Although I couldn’t start rewatching season 6 with my dvds because I had issues with the dvd player not working at the beginning of the week. And it isn’t available on Netflix yet. I was excited to start the new HBO/Max series The Last of Us too. And the beginning was so good! But then what happened right before the switch to the present year, wow, and I was a little bored after that.

Since The Last of Us is one episode a week and I was having the issues with my Outlander DVD, I decided to start another new show. It was pretty interesting, if weird.

Friday night I saw this pop up on Netflix and gave it a try. It’s a zombie apocalypse type of show. So far so good.

Coming Up Next Week on My Blog

All of these are for blog tours, the first one because I’m on the author’s review team as well.

I will also have some promos this week, and maybe one of my L-L-L review posts.

Giveaways

Don’t forget that I do now have the nice little box on the right hand sidebar so you can check out giveaways all the time!

Scotland Tour Tidbits

So as I mentioned, I’m going to start doing a little bit each weekly wrap-up post about one of the places I’m supposed to see on my tour. I’m going to start with the first on the list, Blackness Castle, which was used to portray Fort William on the Outlander tv series. In the series, the castle is the location where Jamie was flogged when he was younger. And then later he has to rescue Claire from Black Jack Randall. The first picture is the whole actual Blackness Castle. The second picture is of the scene from when Jamie was flogged. And the third picture is when Jamie rescued Claire.

Final Thoughts

How was your week? Did you read or watch anything good? Get any good books? How has January been for you so far?

This week I’m leaving you with pictures of my dogs in the cute little fleece sweaters I got them. Even though it came from a place that is called “weenie warmers” they didn’t really fit that great. And neither of my two liked them, as you can see from the looks on their faces as I took pictures right before they both set to work getting themselves free of the sweaters.

I tried with Dora, but she was crazy about getting out of the clothes as soon as I put them on her. Argyle was better when he was a tiny puppy, but I didn’t keep up with it. He’s better now than Dora is, though, lol. I’m so excited for my trip! Just hoping the airline ticket goes down a little more before then, because it is still crazy expensive! Almost as much as the week long tour!

Yeah, the 2 or 4 hour time frame is hard enough, but to deal with a whole day? Nope, not going to waste my time on that. Yeah, Lord of the Fly Fest has a great cover, and I liked the other book I read by the author. I’m one of those that can’t wait to binge if it is a once a week show I’ll watch it every week, lol. I might be a little old fashioned, or just plain old, lol.

  1. Love the dog pics and all of the great things on your blog today. I’ve tried to put clothes on dogs but my pets of the past had hated me for it. Love seeing clothes on Greyhounds.

  2. yes, more and more they just give you a day and I hate that. You wait around all day , doing little stuff in case you get interrupted, and then they show up at 3 or 4pm, so you waste the whole day. You have so much change and unscheduled stuff with your library clerk, I love seeing the Scotland info.

It’s crazy how they think people have whole days to just sit and wait on them. But that seems to be the way it is these days!

  3. The pups don’t look thrilled about those, but I get it. Fleece can be weird, and with it being loose, I would imagine the wouldn’t be fans. I’m rooting for the Bengals today as well (I live in Cincinnati), and I have a friend who is actually at the game in Buffalo (she and her husband have season tickets to the Bengals so they get deals on non-home games).

Well fingers crossed your Bengals win! Of course I’ll be nervous having the Chiefs playing them again, since they have been beating us!!!

  4. It sounds like a busy week and the puppies are so cute in their sweaters! I want to watch Outlander and The Last of Us also. So many nice books this week, happy reading!

    • Lisa Mandina

I love Outlander, and the second episode of The Last of Us got me more invested! Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Good luck with your old district. I hope something works out there.

An RV with an office! Sign me up. I’d go live off the grid somewhere and just blog lol. Okay not really but it does sound kinda appealing! 🙂

I do want to try The Last of Us. And Black Summer is a TRIP. I was used to The Walking dead where they just shamble around and then I watched that and they’re RUNNING. Um, no. Go back to shambling please so I can get away.

Yeah, the RV is pretty cool! Makes me want to travel more. The second episode of The Last of Us was better and I liked it a lot more. Yeah, the Black Summer zombies are crazy! Although one episode the guy was alone and I think he had a lot of chances to be safe, but he kept doing stupid things. I mean he was in a grocery store by himself! If he’d just blocked the doors he could have stayed and had plenty of food!

        • Lisa Mandina

Lol! I agree with that so far! Like the very first episode, what kind of mom or dad doesn’t send the other one on with the kid if they know they are infected like that?

  6. I’m so jealous of everyone who got One Girl In All the World! (Yes, I could be signed up for tours and it’s my fault by man, I’m so ready for this book!) I hope you enjoyed it – I’ll eagerly await your review 🙂 I’m a MASSIVE Buffy fan and this is the first spin off I’ve read that I really enjoyed.

Sorry you had such a hectic week at school — I find that short weeks are actually worse in a lot of ways (and even more so when I was a teacher). I hope this week is less crazy for you!

    • Lisa Mandina

I got the ARC from a trade on Twitter sadly. I’ll probably get a finished copy from the publisher from being on the Rock Star book tour too, but I’ll donate that to my library since it will probably be finished. I’m a massive Buffy fan too! My email is buffywnabe. You are definitely right about short weeks usually being worse in a lot of ways! So far this regular week is not starting off any less crazy though. lol Thanks for stopping by!

  7. WOw! What a crazy week at school, especially for shortened week. I hope this coming week is a bit calmer for you and the school.

YES – that was scary when Mahomes was hurt. I was cheering for them in that game. My weekend was fun. A friend is visiting from out of town. We took my daughter dress shopping for a winter semi-formal dance. Then we got together with the neighbors for food, football, and fun!

So far the week is not starting off any better. We’re all keeping our fingers crossed he’ll be better by next game, of course Mahomes says he’s playing! Sounds like a nice weekend! We’re debating on a get together for the playoff game next week.
