Out with Feedburner, in with follow.it

Posted June 26, 2021 by Lisa Mandina in discussion post / 5 Comments

If you have been following Lisa Loves Literature on Feedburner, you may notice that you are now getting your updates from me through a new source, follow.it. After seeing someone post on their blog about Feedburner going away, and then having the shock of seeing it show I only had 5 followers left, I panicked! I immediately had to go read the blog post by Jen Ryland about what services you might want to switch to with Feedburner going away. Now, I don’t do a newsletter, I just wanted my followers to be able to get my posts sent to them through email if that was how they were subscribed, like I do on the blogs I follow.

At the same time I had someone from follow.it reach out to me both through email as well as a comment on my blog. And so I looked into it. It’s totally free, for what I’m using it for, and they were really great and helped me get it all set up. They also helped me sort through the fake email subscribers I seemed to have with Feedburner, and then transferred over all the real ones to my new follow.it account.

Follow.it also has some awesome features that you didn’t have before with Feedburner, like filters and different ways in which to receive your email subscriptions. You can check it out for my blog HERE. It is a newer site and so they are adding more choices all the time!

The great thing is if you were already signed up to follow me through Feedburner, I have transferred your email over to this new service and you don’t have to do anything to keep getting Lisa Loves Literature blog posts in your email. If you’re not subscribing yet, you can click the link in the last paragraph or fill in your email in the right hand sidebar where it asks you to if you want to sign up.

You can just be like my Argyle following his sister Dora around the yard!

Yay! Good to know! Thanks for stopping by and letting me see that it is all going like it should.

  2. Oooh this is really good to know, thank you! I (after reading Jen’s post too hahah) ended up going with MailChimp but I like that there is an alternative in case it doesn’t work out there. My big issue with MailChimp is, it sends it from my email address, and because it is a gmail address (I don’t have my own site address, as much as I wish I could!), it’s often marked as spam. Ironically, even in MY OWN EMAIL. So yeah, I may have to look into this myself, so I appreciate the info!

So far it seems to be working okay. I of course signed up to get my own emails just to keep an eye on it! Since I don’t really do newsletters, just the posts are emailed to followers, I wasn’t sure about MailChimp. So I went with the Follow.it site which so far so good.
