Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings to spotlight
and talk about the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read.
Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. It’s based on
Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine. Once again I’ve picked a book that is not a sequel in a series, it is one that sounds pretty unique, and definitely intriguing. Here is the synopsis from Goodreads:
Set in a near-future world where the British Empire never fell and the United States never rose, That Inevitable Victorian Thing is a novel of love, duty, and the small moments that can change people and the world.
Victoria-Margaret is the crown princess of the empire, a direct descendent of Victoria I, the queen who changed the course of history two centuries earlier. The imperial practice of genetically arranged matchmaking will soon guide Margaret into a politically advantageous marriage like her mother before her, but before she does her duty, she’ll have one summer incognito in a far corner of empire. In Toronto, she meets Helena Marcus, daughter of one of the empire’s greatest placement geneticists, and August Callaghan, the heir apparent to a powerful shipping firm currently besieged by American pirates. In a summer of high-society debutante balls, politically charged tea parties, and romantic country dances, Margaret, Helena, and August discover they share an unusual bond and maybe a one in a million chance to have what they want and to change the world in the process โjust like the first Queen Victoria.

I hadn't heard of this novel before but it certainly sounds interesting to me at the moment. Where the British Empire never fell? Now that is going to be one intriguing read. I wonder what the world is like…
I haven't read too many alternate history books, but I do like to once in awhile just to see what someone thinks would have changed in that situation. Thanks for stopping by!
This one is new to me! I hope you enjoy it. As a side note, I'm glad to see that someone picked up the meme. I'm a little disappointed in myself for not doing it, but I was worried about being accused of "plagiarism". I'll be linking up to the new meme from now on! Thanks for stopping by my WOW this past week!
