For the letter F I’m going to choose a genre of fiction that is not actually one that I read a ton of. There are some of my very favorite series that fit into it though, so it is worth mentioning. The more I’m around authors and bloggers, I’ve learned that the type of fantasy I really don’t get into is called “high fantasy”. Like Game of Thrones or The Lord of the Rings for example. While I can enjoy a movie or tv series with it, I just have trouble actually sitting down and reading it.
1. My all time favorite fantasy series is The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe series by C.S. Lewis. I used to read those books over and over when I was a kid. My copies of them are dog-eared and tattered, and to me look well-loved. The pictures below match the covers of the books that I own, and I’ve posted them in the story’s chronological order, as opposed to order of publication.

3. My 3rd and final favorite fantasy series is a newer one. It didn't come out till I was a grown-up. I was teaching at my 3rd teaching job, and working part time at a B. Dalton bookstore. I resisted at first, but when I picked up a copy of the first one at the suggestion of a fellow bookseller, I was hooked. That series is the Harry Potter series.

Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia are my favourite fantasy series as well! I haven't read the Wrinkle in Time series though. I know what you mean about high fantasy. I've read the first Game of Thrones book and it was really good but quite wordy and not easy bedtime reading. I have to be in the right mood to read that sort of thing.

Game of Thrones is better if you get ahead of where the tv series is, and I've been told multiple people feel the first book was the hardest to get through. First ones are usually tricky, just because you're introducing the world and everyone in it.
Yeah, but I've just never been a fantasy person, and there are so many other books I want to read, so it'll probably not ever get read.

I love fantasy, especially series fantasy. My all-time favorites are The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan and The Belgariad series by David Eddings. I've read them so much I had to buy two copies. The first fell apart on me. I have to confess…. I've never read Harry Potter. I love the movies so much, I just know they will be ruined when I dive into the books, so I'm holding off.

I write the stuff. 🙂 But I think we share an attitude in common — far too much of it is rehashing the same old rutted road. I like to throw a few wrinkles in my own stories, to give them at least a little distinction. (And indulge my love for detailed world-building!)
I also loved Narnia, and bought the books for my kids when they said they wanted to read it. I read the first Harry Potter, mostly because my wife had been spooked by a bunch of church ladies. After I told her "it was about being a friend, and doing the right thing regardless of personal cost," she let the kids read them.

I'm not into fantasy literature (or TV series or movies) at all. I read the first book of the Harry Potter series with my youngest son, and thought it was incredibly boring. But that's just my personal taste. My son enjoyed it >:)

Alas, I am not a high fantasy reader at all, don't really read much fantasy at all…though I did buy the first Game of Thrones book to read…someday. Many moons ago, I read the Hobbit and I think a couple of other Tolkiens (sp??) as well a few Mary Stewart Merlin books that I did enjoy. But, a good book is a good book and I don't automatically say no to any book due solely to its genre.
