Follow Friday is sponsored by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. And this week the Featured blogger on Parajunkee is ME!! I’m very excited about this, and am looking forward to all the new bloggers I will meet this week! Over on Alison Can Read the featured blogger is Once Upon a Prologue. This week’s question is:
If you could change the ending of any book (or series), which book would you choose? Why and to what?
My answer to this might be a little different than what you normally see me blog about. I would have to say the first book I thought of is A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks. It is the first and only one of his books I ever read. I read it because I heard the movie was coming out, and I like to try to read the books before I see the movie. Anyway, if you’ve read it, or seen the movie, you know what happens at the end. This book was such a feel good book to me. The popular boy has to make up for mistakes he’s made and he ends up having to work with the town’s nerdiest girl. But as he works with her, he begins to really get to know her, and even fall in love with her. I loved this story, because I always felt in school like I was the nerdiest girl there. But then, it turns out she has cancer, (I think it was cancer, some deadly disease anyway), and she dies! I was so mad. I hated that this book made me feel all good inside and then jerked the rug out from under me. So I refuse to read anymore of his books.
One other book that I wasn’t quite pleased with the ending was Delirium by Lauren Oliver. I didn’t like that the ending wasn’t any more of a happy ending. I know most dystopian novels are not, but I’d would have liked to see it with this one.
Following now before all the cool kids do. 😉
Aww the end of A Walk to Remember both the book and the movie made me cry. I really fell for Landon and Jamie and I didn't think it was fair that they had such a short time together. :/
Happy weekend!
Old follower, but congrats on the feature! I only saw the movie of A Walk To Remember, I don't think I could handle the book. I literally cry my eyes out for the last half of the movie. It is so sad.
Here's my

Yeah, AWTR is a real tear-jerker and I hated the way it ended. Congrats on being featured this week via FF! I'm your newest follower and here's my answer…..

Oh, yea…that was so sad. I didn't read the book b/c I didn't know there was one. Smiles. But I have seen the movie. New follower. I'd love it if you'd stop by and check out my answer!

Sparks is known for his heartbreaking stories so i was ready for AWTR ending. and Delirium is just book 1 of a trilogy, i guess we can still hope for a happy ending 🙂

Nicolas Sparks always makes me cry…AWTR is one of my favorites, but I agree, it would have been nice for them to have more time together!
Happy (Featured!) Friday! New follower. 🙂

Congratulations on being featured! I'm an old follower. 😀
I actually haven't read any of those, but have wanted to. I'm sorry you'd like to change the ending, though I can understand why you'd wanna change the one of A Walk to Remember. I've seen the movie and I cried a whole lot! It's very sad… :/
Happy Friday! My FF can be found here!

New follower from FF. Congrats on the feature.
Interesting answer to this week's question. I wasn't expecting to find one of Nicholas Sparks' books mentioned but I can understand where you're coming from. Congrats on the feature!

Carmel @ Rabid Reads
New follower! I haven't read A Walk to Remember, but i have seen it. I think its ok for a movie, but SO not ok for a book to end like that. Terrible, just terrible.
Hopping through. I cried so hard at A Walk To Remember. I think all of Spark's books end like that, although I've only read two.
Congrats on being the feature!
My Hop
Oh, I cannot read A Walk to Remember without sobbing like an infant! Great answer!
http://readingtopenguins.blogspot.com/2011/09/following-friday-2.html
Oh, that ending would upset me too. I read books for happy endings and that doesn't sound like it'd deliver the happy ending I crave.

I never read A Walk to Remember but I saw the movie and I was not a fan!
I'm really afraid for Delirium. I hope it doesn't become one of those awkward Love Triangles because Alex was perfection!
New follower, congrats on being featured!
Awesome, awesome! Hopping over from Parajunkee's! I barely made it through the movie, it was so SAD. I can't imagine what the book would have done to me!
Very nice picks Lisa, and congrats on the feature!
Ninja Girl
Congrats for being the Feature! Yeah! I haven't read either of those books but may have to check them out! Great choices!

Congrats on being featured!
That is why I don't read many Nicholas Sparks books. His endings always kill me.
I haven't read Delirium yet but it's on my library list.

I can agree to AWTR, the book was way better though. However, Shane West can do no wrong in my world.
–AWR
I'd have to agree with the end of AWTR. The ending is why I've never re-read the book. Very rare for me.
I'm a new follow (gotta love FF's!)
Tania @ Wandering Hues
Hey, new follower! And I totally agree!! That ending was just too depressing. I'm all for tear-jerker endings, but she's like, 16, and then they get married and she dies. Way too much for me. Great answer!

I'm a new follower from the FF! I agree with you on A Walk To Remember. Cried my eyeballs out at the end of the movie AND the book.
Congratulations on being one of the Feature Blogger today =) I'm a new follower now. This is the first time I'm hopping through your site.
I love Delirium, and the ending is a HUGE CLIFFHANGER! Me and my friends were talking about it yesterday and we can't wait for Pandemonium. Too bad, it's not release yet until February 2012!
ANyway, here's my Friday Hops

Yeah! Nicholas Sparks novels do have sad endings. I stopped reading them.
Happy Friday!

Congratulations on being one of this week's featured FF blogs Lisa! I think it's marvellous. 🙂
I also enjoy meeting new book lovers, so these FF posts are one of the highlights of my week.
I can see why you'd want to change the ending to A Walk To Remember.

Congrats on being a feature! I couldn't even watch the ending to A Walk to Remember. I had to skip bits because it was too sad 🙁 Great choice.

Happy Friday 🙂 NEW follower here.
I didn't like the ending to A Walk to Remember all that much either.
Stop by my blog:

A Walk to Remember was also my first Nicholas Sparks book (not the last though). I cried like a baby! I agree with you, I kept hoping for a mirable cure until the end. New follower!
I would change that ending too, the book I picked is a similar in that way.
Have a great weekend!
I considered A Walk to Remember too…and then a lot of Sparks's books, actually! He definitely knows how to rip your heart out! But I love it, he's one of my fave authors. 😀 I haven't read Delirium yet, but maybe it'll end up happier in the sequels? Though who knows with dystopia!
Have a great weekend!
Congrats on being featured!! New follower here 🙂
I've read A Walk to Remember and I've seen the movie, the end made me cry it was just so sad. But I kind of saw it coming.

Congrats on the feature! I'm still holding out hope that the next book in the Delirium series will make up for that ending. 🙂
Congrats on being the feature! I actually like books that have a twist ending. I thought Sparks ending was a heart wrenching twist, but a good one no the less. 🙂 Following you from Feature and Follow Friday. Would love a follow back on my blog: Prowling Books In the Lair. Thanks! I have a book spa giveaway going that I'd love for you to enter either as a gift for yourself or a great present for a friend: Book Giveaway . I haven't read the book or seen the movie, because I've been told it's really sad – and it does sound it! I hate it when a novel has an unhappy ending!

I loved a Walk to Remember, and the movie was awesome. 🙂
New follower.
Congrats on the feature!!
I'm an old follower.
Nicholas Sparks always is always able to churn out a heart-wrencher. But, and I know how odd this is, but I always adore that sensation of sudden meloncholy in a generally upbeat novel. It gives the book a sense of balance, in my opinion.
PS: I'm a new follower! Please don't be frightened to frivolously check out my Follow Me Friday post. Thanks!
Hi, new follower! I haven't read any of Nicholas Sparks' books, but I have read Delirium. I was hesitant about the ending too, but there are two more books coming out, so lets hope for the happy ending! 🙂

I wasn't crazy about the end of Delirium either and I can't bring myself to read a Sparks book because they are all SO very sad!
New follower!
Congrats on being this weeks feature blog!!! New Follower here!!!
Feel free to check out my blog @ http://www.booklove101.blogspot.com
Ooh a Walk to Remember – I feel like Nicolas Sparks books try and get you that way, he just doesn't like the perfect happy ending.
I loved the ending to Delirium, but only because I know that there are more books in the series. If that had been all that there was to it, I probably would've been furiously glaring at my Kindle demanding for it to have gone better.
hi there, i am now a new follower. I agree with you on a walk to remember, but i would also change the end of gone with the wind- it just broke my heart. Check out my blog at http://terri-brilliantbooks.blogspot.com
I can't read Sparks myself. New Follower! Congrats on being featured 🙂

Lisa – I completely agree with you on all accounts! I won't read Nicholas Sparks anymore. Life's gritty enough, I like books that make me happy. Or at least take me outside the realm of my own world!
Glad to have found you via FF!

Congrats on being the featured blogger! New follower 🙂
Nicholas Sparks seems to really like to pull on people's heartstrings. I've never read any of his books but I've seen a couple of the movies. I always try to guess who the heartbreaking dying character will be.
Happy Friday!
New Follower!
I agree, that happy endings are great, but I have to say – I love a sad ending if its justified. I loved Delirium. Walk to Remember was bittersweet.
I would change Breaking Dawn to something worth my time and The Sweet Far Thing, 'cus I love the Gemma Doyle trilogy and I want more!

I hope that you get a chance to receive more galleys from NetGalley. Became a recent NG junkie myself!
Before reading your response, I typed up mine…and it's a Nicholas Sparks book too! I also don't read any more of his books as well… who needs depressing!

I definitely liked the movie better than the book, but yes, I agree with you that it should have been a happier ending!

THAT Ending would have made me hate the series less! You're gifted lol. Congrats on the FF and have a good week 🙂

I've watched but not read A Walk to Remember and it really made me cry. I have heard it was loosely based on the author's sister though…and she recovered and is living her happy ending 🙂
My FF is here.

I only saw the movie but I am def interested in reading the book.

Hi, Lisa! I'm a new follower. I haven't read A Walk to Remember, but know how you feel. I much prefer happy endings. After getting to know and like the characters, I would've felt so let down with that ending! Too sad!
Have a great weekend!

Yes, I added a reply. Caution, it replies, but throws the comment to the bottom anyhow. So really, not very useful. Just don't have to type in the @name. Anyway, here's the site I got the info from. Happy HTML coding.

I cried sooooo much at the ending. How can Sparks leave us like that?!

New follower. I read an interview with Nicholas Sparks where he said he left the ending to the book open to let people decide on their own if she dies or not. Jaime was based on Sparks' sister who had cancer and he didn't have the heart to truly kill her because it would be like killing off his sister. The ending says that Landon does believe in miracles now and it's believed that means that Jaime lives in the book. But she dies in the movie, which broke my heart. New follower by the way.
I personally love when comedic actors do serious roles. I think it benefits both the audience and the actor. Just think if robin williams never did a serious role. As somebody who loves everything comedy, I feel like a good serious role deepens my love for that actor and impresses me when they can nail both. Also it goes the other way to. Good dramatic actors doing hilarious comedic characters… Tom Cruise… Boom Movie Reviews a place to find all latest up dates.
Hoping through. New follower. Have an awesome weekend! Happy reading!
congrats on the feature! You know I haven't read a nicolas sparks book yet. I have to get around to that 🙂 Happy weekend! new follower 😀
