Blurb:

An earl and an artist walk into a bar, and the barman says—never mind. They’re in a church, and they’re married now. Oops.
My name is Evangeline Astley, and the only thing you need to know about me is that I never imagined this was how my life would go.
I was supposed to devote all my time to painting gorgeous things to eventually open my own art gallery. Instead, I spent it all trying to sell my art to save my parents’ hotel.
Cue the Earl of Anglesey and his not-so-stunning idea.
Matthew Bennett needs an heir to the earldom, but for an heir, he needs a wife. And I’m the one the extremely eligible bachelor has chosen. Except I’m just as marriage-phobic as he is, so naturally, I refused—until he gives me an offer that I couldn’t.
If I agreed to marry him, provide an heir, and divorce amicably in due course, he would save The Fox and Hound hotel that I love so much.
That, ladies and gents, is how I became the Countess of Anglesey.
The one thing I didn’t count on, however?
Falling in love with my husband.

My Review

Another wonderful romantic comedy from Hart! In fact, this one might end up being my favorite of all three in this series of standalones set in the UK. The relationship between Matthew and Eva is perfect. The way their marriage of convenience comes about is nice too, because it isn’t anything that is an emergency and they do all the things ahead of time to make sure no one can get hurt if things change. That doesn’t mean this story has no ups and downs, it does. But I actually kind of like the way the downs don’t get so deep and dark in this one. I loved the family members of course, the ones we knew from the past books, like Emma’s twin sister Adelaide. And then there was Matthew’s grandmother. When they walked into the house and she and his mother had just arrived back from giving the two of them a little “honeymoon” time, she was singing an Eminem song that just the lines she sang in the book still has that song going through my head. lol

I loved the dogs, the staff, their family, the little town, the setup of what Eva as an artist would find to fulfill herself in her new life in this small quaint town far away from her family. This was the kind of story that was just perfect. I mean I just loved how it all went. The funny times, the little uh-oh moment that I wondered if it would be more than what it turned out to be, and even the romantic times. Eva’s love of toast was funny, and again, made me hungry for toast as well. As usual, the author does such a great job with the banter between our hero and heroine.

The only that maybe I felt was a tiny bit much was how Eva reacted when she found out that it might have been her mistake that caused the big surprise. It really wasn’t that big of a deal, but I guess she had her own “reason” for being that emotional. Oh yeah, and once again, someone calling an event a funfair. I get it, I think, some people call it that? I’ve just never heard it called that and it sounds so redundant to me.

Loved the story, sad this little series is over, but glad to hear we might get more in this same type of setting from the author soon as well!

Yes, really. She’s that sarcastic.
