Weekly Wrap-Up #226 – June 1st, 2025

I’m connecting once again with Kimberly at Caffeinated Reviewer.

Sunday started out with more pouring rain. It cleared out around 10 am, but the kids wanted to go to one of those indoor activity places with the rock climbing, etc. I did not, so along with some of the adults I stayed back at the cabin. Got a little reading done, a little blogging too. We ate leftovers from our cookout on Saturday night for lunch. Then in the evening we all went to the Dolly Parton Stampede. I hadn’t been in so long. It was fun for the kids I think. So much food. My cousin and her husband and stepdaughter decided to drive back to Atlanta instead of waiting till the morning because of storms. We loaded up some stuff into our cars to be ready to leave in the morning. I did some more blogging before bed.

Dolly Parton Stampede – photo they take when you first come in if you want it.

Monday morning woke up to a pretty rainy morning. Got the cars finished loaded up and were on the road by 9 am. I stopped by Osceola Cheese on my way like I always do. My favorite is their Colby Jack cheese, so I got a block of that and a bag of their assorted cheese cubes for snacks. Was excited to see a package on my front porch when I got home. Unfortunately UPS left it sitting flat and not under the little hangoff of the roof, so the bottom of it was wet when I got home. There was a little paper in the package so I emailed the publisher to see if maybe I can get another copy sent out. For now I’m trying to see if I can dry it out. While the rain had mostly stopped though by the time I got home, it started up again in the afternoon. I left the dogs with my friend one more night so I could mop and vacuum and do some cleaning up before they came home. Plus I can pick them up on the way home from work on Tuesday, so it isn’t out of the way at all. I went and had dinner by myself for a change from eating with family all weekend. It was nice to sit and read while I ate. Came home and blogged some more before watching some tv, which I hadn’t really watched any all weekend.

Tuesday was a gloomy day, not a lot of rain, but maybe a few sprinkles here and there. It was really quiet in the library, nice to get some work done. I got the rest of the social studies textbooks they’d dumped in the library boxed up for auction. I started working on moving the Sports Fiction books over to switch locations with my Adventure fiction section. Also cleaned out the office freezer that was full of lunch meat and bread from the meal they did back in October I think? They wanted to keep it for another event, but I looked up online to see that stuff should have been thrown out after a couple months. Instead it filled the freezer for months. Picked up Argyle and Dora after school on the way home. Glad to have them home, but was immediately on edge worrying about Dora again, even though I know she is doing a lot better and most likely is completely healed of whatever the problem was. Spent the night relaxing with the dogs and watching tv. Here are some pictures my friend sent from watching my dogs last weekend.

Wednesday was another cloudy day. I started working on some rearranging of sections in my library that I want to do. But I need to do some dusting before I move a lot of books. That’s one thing that doesn’t happen, no one dusts the the library shelves. And without a clerk I don’t get it done. Next year I have to make sure I put those TAs to work doing that, lol. Ran by the grocery store after work to pick up dog treats, didn’t have any last night and didn’t want to leave once I got the dogs home, so had to give them pieces of a hot dog for treats. I also bought the ingredients to make that casserole I got from another blogger a few weeks ago, and this time I remembered the sour cream. But my mom wanted to do dinner tonight, so I will plan to make it maybe Thursday night if it is raining and I can’t mow.

Thursday was a rainy morning. Plus when I first got to my school they’d closed off the front entrance and I had to walk to a different door. I was only there an hour before I went to the district librarian meeting. I actually am glad we had time to meet. We got a lot of stuff discussed, but I also was able to see that I wasn’t the only one dealing with some ridiculousness and it is the whole miserly loves company because then I didn’t feel so alone. Also found out 2 other librarians are like me with only 3 years till retirement. I could technically retire in 2 and a half, but that means I wouldn’t finish a school year. I told them we should start a club, lol. Then I went to lunch with the secretaries from my school, something they always do on their last day of work. I thought it would just be us, but then the principal came too, ugh. I mean it was okay, but I’d have enjoyed it more without him there. Came home and even though it was still cloudy, I went ahead and got my yard mowed.

Friday was a very quiet day in the school. I got some books moved around and some lost books taken out of the system. Did some work for my graduate class. Came home after work and fed dogs and did a bit of blogging before going to see a movie. I pay for the AMC A-List which means I can see up to 4 movies a week, but I’m lucky to see one or two a month lately. I’m hoping to make sure to get good use of it during the summer while I am not working. Oh, there was a bird that seemed to be singing all different bird songs, so I used my bird ID app and I think I have a mockingbird!

Saturday was heavenly sleeping in! Even if I ended up sticking the dogs back in their cages when I’d normally let them sleep with me the rest of the morning. Got up and started some laundry. Did some blogging, and made that casserole I got from Jinjer at Intrepid Angeleno again, this time with the sour cream I forgot last time. Although I accidentally put all the cheese in, and I use colby jack instead of cheddar. Went to have coffee with my dad’s side at noon. And in the evening went to the Festa Italiana at a local outdoor shopping area. It was finally feeling like summer temps, in the 80s, which are not my favorite because I sweat as soon as I get outside. Ugh. But at least it’s summer! Afterwards came home and sat and tried to get finished with Resident Alien before my Peacock subscription runs out on Monday since I don’t want to renew it.

First was an ARC I started in Branson. Second was an e-galley for an author’s review team. Both reviews were posted this past week. Third was the audiobook I started a week or so ago. It was really good. The review for that won’t be up till my June L-L-L Review post though.

I also had my May L-L-L Review post and my DNF post this week as well as my new Favorite First Lines and Travel post.

ARCs:

Came home from Branson to a package from a publisher, delivered by UPS and the bottom was wet because they’d just sat it on a wet place on my porch after a rainy morning. 🙁

Audiobooks:

Used my monthly Audible credit to purchase this one. I do tend to enjoy listening to Hazelwood’s books. Now the first one in this series wasn’t my favorite of her books, but this one sounds really good, so I’m excited!

Bookish stuff:

I was worried they would no longer do the special edition season DVDs since they’d split this season up so much. But luckily I found out a few months ago that B&N would have it, and I ordered it. It came in the mail on Friday. I don’t usually watch DVDs since it is a pain to hook up the DVD player, but I must own it! Plus this came with a digital download, so I’ll be sure to get that so I can watch whenever I want.

E-galleys:

Both of these are for the authors’ review teams. Both come out the same week, the 17th and the 19th.

Free e-books:

Saw the first one as a freebie on someone else’s post last Sunday so grabbed it then from Amazon. Second I found as a freebie listed on Bookbub, also free on Amazon. The last one is only 99 cents, but I had a Kindle credit from having my Prime packages shipped on the same day to save and then get a credit.

Physical books:

I thought I would get an ARC of the first one, but I got a finished copy. This is one I hope to be reading this coming week, so it was good to get it! The second was a special edition I pre-ordered a while back. I need to quit ordering these, but I think I just went ahead and got them all in the series as they’re coming out. So I’ll have one series that I have all the pretty special editions of.

All my regular shows are off for summer. So I’m finishing up Resident Alien and anything else before my Peacock subscription ran out this weekend. Some of the scenes with Harry in RA make me laugh so much. Like when he tells the mayor that he already saw him once today and he doesn’t want to see him anymore when the mayor just shows up at his cabin. Friday night I did go to the movies to see the new Final Destination movie.

All of these are e-galleys. The first is for the author’s review team, the 2nd one I requested from a publisher and the last one the publisher sent me. Hopefully I’ll get all reviews posted this week.

My end of the month wrap-up should be tomorrow.

May is done! And it will officially be my summer after Monday, my last contracted day. So I’m looking forward to sleeping in and more blogging time.

Oh yeah, last week the realtor sign in the house next door’s yard was gone and I started seeing the same white car in the driveway a few times. But never overnight. When I got back on Monday there was that white car and a white SUV in the driveway, and then that white car was there most of the nights of the rest of the week, so I guess someone is living there now. No dogs for Argyle to play with in the backyard though. I did see the new owner, I assume, out mowing his lawn at 7:30/8 pm Thursday night. In the dark.

How was your week? What are you looking forward to this week?

  1. Glad you had a nice trip to Branson! That’s always fun! Rain, not so much but at least it sounds like it didn’t rain the whole time. But I hate long distance driving in it too! So hopefully that wasn’t too bad either! I hope you enjoy your summer break! That is one thing I miss about school time, lol. But then I remind myself how my sister can’t really take off during the school year for things too much like when I want to spontaneously take a road trip for a book signing!

That’s a bummer about the wet book! I had this happen to one of my preorder gifts. Tried reaching out to the publisher on social media but no one got back to me. I mean it’s not a book but it was character art that were page overlays. Needless to say there will be no overlaying here! I tried flattening it with books but it did not work whatsoever. I am curious about A Girl Walks into the Forest! I think I preordered that one during my B&N preorder sale craze! Lol. It sounds like a fun read!

Hope you enjoy all of your lovely new reads!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

Yeah, summer breaks are nice. But I’m missing out on a trip to Italy in October that my dad said he would pay for, because I can’t take off in October. 🙁 At least not for as long as a trip like that would be to even get to do anything. My publisher contact said he will send me another copy, my hope is that it isn’t delivered on Tuesday when we have rain in the forecast again. Although I plan to stay home all day on Tuesday since it will be my first day I don’t have to work. So I should be here if it is and be able to get it in right away.

I’ve got a package coming tomorrow and I’m worried it is the replacement book because it is supposed to rain all day tomorrow. But I’ll also be home, so I can get it inside right away.

Yeah, that’s the plan to find a “normal” type of job that I can take trips/vacations at any time during the year.

  2. Yay for summer vacation! Time for movies, reading and sleeping in. Your dogs are so cute. I’m sure they were happy to have you home. You’ve been getting a lot of rain. You must get dark a lot earlier than us. We’re light until about 9pm now. Kind of weird to be mowing in the dark, but maybe it was cooler. Maybe they’ve been working a lot on unpacking since moving in and that was the only time he had. I hated unpacking! It seemed to go on forever! Have a wonderful week, Lisa!

We did get a lot of rain last weekend. Looks like a bit more tomorrow. It’s light until about 9 pm, but my neighbors were out mowing after that. My old neighbors did that sometimes too.

It wasn’t a library conference this time, just the end of the year meeting for our district librarians. Which we only meet at the beginning of the year and the end of the year all together in this district. I’m home from the last day and so glad!

  3. I had to check back to your previous wrap up post to see what was going on. I hope you had a fun time at the cabin with your family. What a shame about the UPS leaving your package out in the rain and it getting wet, I hope you can get a new copy or dry it out well. I hope Dora is recovered son and you don’t have to worry about her anymore. Those are some cute pictures of your dogs. That librarian meeting sounds helpful and how you could commiserate with some others, that definitely helps to make you feel less alone in what you’re dealing with. How long till you have vacation?

    • Lisa Mandina

It looks like a new copy should be coming. I think maybe tomorrow, but of course it is raining again. Fortunately I will be home all day! Dora seems to be doing back to normal. I’m just more paranoid about everything with her now. I finished my last day of work today! Yay!

      • That’s nice they’re sending a new copy. Hopefully you can get it so it won’t be out in the rain. Glad to hear Dora is back to normal. And yay for you having vacation now. I hope you enjoy it!

  4. Sounds like a nice trip to Branson. And yea for summer vacation!! Mine starts in a month, and I can’t wait!

We are finally getting a stretch of some nice weather – but of course it’s during the week and there is more rain forecasted for the weekend. But we were able to grill out on Sunday evening and even made s’mores by the fire!

    • Lisa Mandina

It’s getting hot here. I am not a fun of the upper 80s and 90s or warmer. But that’s summer. I’m excited for some rain tomorrow on my first day off so I can sleep in and hopefully the dogs won’t want outside constantly.

  5. Ugh the rain.. we have had so much of it here as well. And I no there are plenty of places that need the rain so I shouldn’t complain. Looks like you had an otherwise nice week..

Yeah, we needed the rain I guess. But oh well, kind of messed some things up over the weekend.

The last day for students was the Friday before Memorial Day. Then I had 5 more days on my contract and since we had Memorial Day off, that meant I had to go in one more day this week. But now I’m done! Yay! Food is a big part of all trips for sure! Especially good food!
