My favorite of those you posted is “The horses know something’s wrong.” It could fit for so many genres, too!
It was a perfect kind of generic sentence that could fit so many stories!
Oh these are good ones. I especially like that one for Death in the Cards, gives me a certain vibe for the main character immediately. That one for Caraval also caught my eye and makes me curious about why the letter took so long to get right.
