I’m connecting once again with Kimberly at Caffeinated Reviewer.
Sunday morning I was still kind of dealing with our house guest Rolla as he wouldn’t be picked up till the afternoon/early evening after I went to a movie with some people including his owner/mom. The plan was she’d come pick him up after the movie. So I did a little blogging in the morning as I could watch them sitting on the couch by me and keep an eye on Dora who I was letting have a little more freedom walking around the house as long as she didn’t try to jump or do anything and the boys kept away from her. It was a chilly morning, but warmed up to my kind of temps later in the afternoon. Went to the movie at 1 pm, then went to have a quick lunch/early dinner afterwards before my friend followed me back to my house and picked up Rolla. It was nice to have our house back to just us even with me trying to keep Dora from getting hurt. I did a little blogging before hanging out and watching tv with the dogs.

Monday I only was at work for a half day because of a doctor appointment in the afternoon. But it was a crazy morning with make up testing in the library. Weather was beautiful! I went and had Taco John’s for lunch when I left work, that was my one Cinco de Mayo thing for the day I guess. Argyle was acting a little like his back leg or maybe his back was bothering him when I got home, so now I’m stressed about him as well. Doctor appointment was okay, they are wanting me to do an MRI, and I think I didn’t do the last one because of cost. So we’ll see. Came back home and had planned to feed the dogs and then go to the library, but I just got to feeling bad about if Argyle is now having issues and decided to just stay home. He’s also now acting kind of depressed I think about his neighbor friends being gone. I also got an email to try to set up a second interview with the principal of the school that I talked to the HR rep last week for. Then, just because I dared to think I couldn’t take much more with worrying about Argyle, my kitchen sink decided to clog up when I was running food through the garbage disposal. I tried calling my dad for advice but he’s out of town, he did have some suggestions that I tried. I then called my brother and he suggested taking the pipes off and I did that, and it drained out the sinks. And a bunch of food did come out, but when I put the pipes back on, it still got stopped up. So I had to call to arrange a plumber to come out on Tuesday.
Tuesday was still a busy day in the library. Make up testing went on in my conference room, and the senior English classes had presentations most of the day. I was able to get the plumber scheduled for between 3-10 pm. A 7 hour window. And actually they’d wanted to do an 8 am-10 pm window until I told them it had to be after 3 pm. I had planned to mow after I got home from work because of rain on Wednesday, but didn’t get to do that. I had also planned to do the phone interview with the principal today, but not knowing when the plumber would come, we rescheduled for Wednesday. The weather was beautiful again.
Wednesday also seemed busy, still presentations in the library. But no testing for a change. It is also the last week for seniors, so there is a lot of turning things in going on and that will continue all this week and next week as they want their tickets to graduation! After work I stopped by a house to pick up some neat wax flower bouquets that I saw on Facebook marketplace, and I got them for my mom, stepmom, and sister-in-law for mother’s day. I guess a gift we got for Teacher Appreciation week was playing cards? For some reason there were 3 sets and 3 cards in the library mailbox. I stopped by Whataburger on the way to work to get the free breakfast sandwich for teachers this week. I had a 4:30 phone interview, and then had to meet my family for my brother’s birthday dinner at 5:30.

Thursday was a nice warm day again. It was a busy morning at school because the person who comes in and then I have to call down students for about 3 hours to meet with her was there. The afternoon I was able to get a few other things done. Then we had a staff meeting after school, followed right after by the retirement reception for the one teacher we have retiring this year. So it meant I got home almost an hour later, and driving at that time means traffic is worse than just an hour before when I usually leave. I got home and finally got to mow. I had been having issues with the latest book. I’d downloaded onto my Kindle, had to read it on my phone at lunch. I finally tried downloading it from Netgalley instead of Edelweiss and that seemed to work.
Friday was really getting to be May temperatures, and sunny! Work was crazy busy as it was the seniors’ last day and I had to collect their laptops and textbooks throughout the day. I also had 3 hours that I was teaching classes about the databases for research. I came home and took Dora to see the vet for a follow up. She’s been doing better, and he said she looked good, but to keep up the strict crate rest and all of that for another 3 weeks. We stopped her prednisone but are continuing the muscle relaxers. I went and had dinner with my mom at a local favorite fried chicken restaurant then helped her get some things down in the garage to take for our annual Memorial Weekend trip to Branson. When I came home and sat on the couch with the dogs, Argyle was slight sitting on Dora’s back/butt. So when I went to pick her up, I guess I wasn’t careful and she yelped. I think it was just how sometimes I squeeze a little hard under her legs or something, but I was scared and immediately held her to me and was crying and worrying. The rest of the night she seemed slower and sad.
Saturday morning we got up and Dora seemed about the same as she had been when we’d went to the vet, so I’m hoping she just was upset and scared because of my overreaction. But I’m being back to the extra careful and taking away some of the little freedoms I’d been slowly letting her have just for my own peace of mind. First thing in the morning since it was pay day I got on the laptop and paid bills. Then I went for the weekly coffee date with my dad, stepmom, sister and now one of my aunts has been coming. Afterwards I went home and fed the dogs before going to meet my author friend for another author event to help her with in the evening. I bought a couple books. She did okay, not as many books sold as at the last event, but still sold some! Didn’t get home till about 9:30, which is when I usually put my dogs in their crate and go to bed myself. But I stayed up for a bit with them.

Books Finished

Both of these were e-galleys. The first one started last week. The second was also from publisher and finished but it took a while to have time to write the review with the busy week. Third was the audiobook I started about a week ago, it’s review will be at the end of the month in my L-L-L Reviews.
I posted last week about a book I thought I had an e-galley for, but I guess I didn’t, because I couldn’t find it in Netgalley or any emails saying I had it to review, so that was a little sad, but also I was kind of happy because it took one more review book off my plate.

E-galleys:

First one was the sequel to the Kindred Spirits I read earlier this year and enjoyed, it was sent by the publisher unrequested. I haven’t downloaded it yet as I don’t know if I’ll be able to fit it in. The second was for the author’s review team. Almost didn’t get it because I guess I missed a form we were supposed to fill out in the Facebook group.
Free e-books:

First was a freebie on Amazon and I think I’ve been reading someone’s reviews of this author lately? Plus it is under 200 pages, so I’ll have to give it a try at some time! Second was also free on Amazon, by a favorite author of mine!
Physical books:

First was a pre-order that I got for the extras. There are two more that I don’t think I will order, I just don’t really need to keep buying these! Second was the book by the author at the table next to us at the book event Saturday night. Third was another author at the event that I thought their book sounded good.
What I’m Watching
So with it being the season finale of Ghosts this week, I’ll be considering maybe resubscribing to either Netflix or HBO or Apple + TV. But I still have Survivor and The Amazing Race. And of course my rewatching of Outlander. On Sunday I went with my friend Lisa, her mom and a friend of hers, as well as my mom to see Monty Python’s Holy Grail in the theater. I’d honestly never seen the movie all the way through before then. But I have been to the castle where they filmed part of it when I was on my Outlander tour! It was okay, there are the parts that are very humorous, but I did get kind of bored later on the movie and towards the end.
What’s Coming Up Next Week

First was an e-galley I requested and had hoped to get done this past week, but the busy week kept me from finishing on time., second is ARC from the publisher, and third is an e-galley from the publisher.
Final Thoughts
One full week of May down. Two more till school is out and my family Memorial Day weekend trip to Branson. How was your week?
Wow! Sounds like a busy week! Glad your break is almost here so you can relax. Hope the second interview went well for you too and that it’s something you think you’d be happier with! Keeping my fingers crossed for you! Poor Dora and Argyle though. I hope they’re doing better now, especially Dora.
Nice new reads too! All new to me ones for sure but I hope you end up enjoying each and every one of them!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
I was just feeling the crazy busy week this morning when I did not want to get up out of bed! I think the second interview went well, but we’ll see if I get a call. I’m also a little stressed about if I do get the next step and have to go teach a lesson. I finished the audio of Caraval and enjoyed it! I can see why you love the story. I’ve got the second book in the series on hold on audio again from the library. But there are a lot of people waiting for it!
Oh wow! That sounds like a rigorous process! I was never in that field, so never knew what the interview process was like. I did interview once for an office position at a school and had to sit in a circle with the interviewers and it was pretty stressful. One on one was stressful enough for me! Lol. Hope all continues to go well with the process! <3
This is the first time I’ve interviewed with a place that was that rigorous. It is a private school though, so it makes sense!
Oh I really hope this interview pans out!! I hate when they make you go teach a lesson. That is the most out of context, performative task that shows them NOTHING. We are almost to the finish line!
Yeah, I’m a little nervous about it, but we shall see if they even call me for the next round. So ready for this year to be over. Not that I think anything will be better next school year, but there’s always hope when the year is starting in August.
I hope the plumbing went ok. I have experience with that. I used to have a 25 foot snake but now I have a 75 foot snake. I’m more careful what I put in the garbage disposal and I do have Liquid Plumber or Drano on hand if things start to get slow there or even in the bathroom sinks. Is the job you interviewed for one you want? If so I hope it works out for you.
Yeah, the plumbing was a quick fix when they had the snake. I’m sure at one time my stepdad would have been able to do it before he got sick, but without him I have to rely on hiring people these days. I will probably not be using the garbage disposal for a while, a little nervous now, lol. Not sure if the job for sure would be what I want, although it would be working with middle school age along with high school, and I miss the middle grades. Plus, it would be away from where I am, and surely that would be good, right?
I’m glad your plumbing wasn’t issue wasn’t extensive. I hope your MRI turns out to be okay and that your dogs will be too. Have a great week Lisa.
I’m so grateful for that plumbing “easy” fix as well. We shall see about the MRI next month I guess. Hoping Dora continues to improve as well!
Oh my, what a busy week you had! I’m glad to hear that Dora is doing relatively better. A sick pet is always so sad to see. And I really hope that interview went well! Sending you tons of positive vibes! And I’m also glad to hear that the school year is coming to an end! That is very exciting!
It’s crazy to think there are only 2 more weeks, but also I’m counting down the days! Hoping Dora continues to get better. I just have to continue being strict with her movement, and that gets harder when she is acting like she’s doing better.
What a stressful week between the doggos and the plumber and work. Fingers crossed about the job!
Thanks! I just realized today that I never sent a thank you “email”, so just did that and hope it isn’t too late! I need an easy week. But fear it won’t be here till after school is out and Dora is hopefully off the recommended strict rest from the vet.
I can’t believe the school year is almost over! Sorry to hear you’re worried about both dogs now, I know how stressful that is. I hope your phone interview goes well!
I’m so ready for school to be done! Especially this year. Although I might have said that last year as well. Argyle seems to be okay, but still a little sad about his neighbor friends. I think the phone interview went okay, but haven’t heard back for the big next part of the process!
Plumbing issues are such a pain, sorry you had to deal with that. I hope the phone interview goes/ went well (fingers crossed for you).
i recently read The Romance Rivalry as well – super cute!
Well, turns out that they want to pay less than I think I need to at least stay where I am at, but at least they were honest about that when they called me back for the next part of the interview. I need to go check your review of that one out!
Busy week. Hope the interview works out and you can move on. It’s horrible to worry about the pups so much but trust me, I completely understand. I worry about my boys ALL the time. Looks like you read some good books recently!
Such a busy week! I need a quieter week, although I have a bunch of zoom meetings this week, so probably will still be busy. It’s so hard not to worry about the dogs! They are our babies!
I feel bad for Argyle with his friends being gone, hopefully he feels better soon. And that’s a shame with the MRI your doctor wants you to do being so pricey. And what a pain with your sink then gettign clogged when you already had enough to worry about. And a 7 hour window for an appointment is cray, I’ve had some appointment windows for 4 hours and I already find that too long as you just have to be home and wait.
That is nice that burger place had a free burger for teachers! I hope Dora continues to improve, that’s tough to be so strict with what she can do until she recovers. I hope you enjoy Loving Spirits, I remember your review for book 1 and how you enjoyed it. And that’s exciting you picked up that Laura Greenwood book, I love that series!
Hoping to get to those books soon. Dora being hurt is stressing me out, and I stopped taking my antidepressant earlier this year, so now I’m thinking I need to start those again with how things are right now.
Oh, I’m sorry to hear about both pups being a bit out of sorts (still for Dora). That is a lot of stress and anxiety. I haven’t seen MP-HG all the way through in years, but I recall it does get a bit long at the end. I do enjoy their humor, tho.
Both kids are home now and that really changed how I spend my free time. My daughter and I are trying to catch up on shows that we watch together. My husband and I are trying to finish Andor. And then there are NBA playoffs. So I’m not reading as much as I had been.
Yeah, having family around makes spending time with them become most important! I do spend more dinners with my mom these days than sitting at home eating where I read while I eat, so that has cut into reading time, but I’m okay with it. Hoping Dora is continuing to improve from what I can tell.
