I think this is my 4th time participating. I do like the questions, just end up doing either Top 10 or a review on Tuesdays a lot of times.
I’ve met a few fellow bloggers or bookish people at events. Usually it ends up that I meet people at the events and become online friends with them after. I know that I met some when I went to some BEA conventions in NYC. At Apollycon in 2017 I met a few, including one, Hannah McBride, who ran Irish Banana Blog tours at the time, and now she’s a published author! I know that other bloggers I know were at book events I was, but we didn’t necessarily meet up or know each other that that time, so what a sad missed chance of meeting! I believe those are the events I’ve met most bookish people, Apollycon, Book Bonanza, BEA, and NOLA Storycon.
And also, do Zoom book clubs count? Because I got to be face to face with several fellow bloggers last year for the whole White Trash Zombie series read-alongs.
How about you? Have you met any bookish/blogger friends in person?
I met you at NOLAStorycon in 2016 but I was also at Apollycon in 2017 and at Book Bonanza in 2019. I’ve met people both at Conferences and while traveling.
Yeah, I thought it was NOLA that we met, but couldn’t remember for sure! And I was at both of those other ones, but not sure how many people I actually ran into that I knew!
OH… that’s a great point about meeting people at events and then becoming online friends. That’s definitely happened with me. And yea for Zoom! I love seeing my book buddies there.
I keep thinking about the world before Zoom and how much we missed out on getting to see people and get to know them.
Oh yes, I miss the book conventions! I know more are popping up these days but they are insanely hard to get tickets to! I think I’ve been trying for 4 or 5 years to go to Apollycon and every year I fail because of the stupid queue system. I miss the big Romantic Times Booklovers Convention! it was pricey but so fun! I met so many other readers and bloggers there! I did run into lots of bloggers at the one BEA I was able to attend! I did go to one NOLA StoryCon as well! That was a blast and wish it could’ve gone on longer. I sadly couldn’t make the second event as I don’t think I could convince anyone else to go with me that year. But yes, meeting other book people or bloggers at bookish events is the best!
They are so hard to get tickets to the big ones! I was able to go to every Book Bonanza except the last two years I couldn’t get tickets and then they stopped having it. I loved BEA when I had a sister that lived in NYC. I think I got to meet you at one Apollycon in Orlando maybe? Or maybe it was NOLA Storycon. I wasn’t able to go to the second NOLA either, and then I think they stopped having them sadly.
I sadly have never been to Apollycon, hence my tears every year when I fail to get a ticket when I am at the “select a ticket” phase of everything. It seriously makes me cry! So it must have been NOLA Storycon! I wanted to go so bad the second time, but no one was wanting to take a return trip so soon. And it was too pricey on my own, but that one was so fun for just a weekend event!
Maybe it was NOLA Storycon! I was lucky at the time I had a friend who had some apartments over a bar he owned in the French Quarter and so I had a free place to stay when I went to things in NOLA.
That’s awesome! It just so happened that around that time my stepdad wanted to meet up with one of his Coast Guard buddies who lives near NOLA. So we got a hotel but at least the cost was split 3 ways so that helped! I think our hotel was right around the corner from the event one too, so I could go back and forth if I wanted to, but since I usually had my books with me, I waited for my ride or at least help with one of the bags! Lol.
I’ve met Caitlyn from Realms of My Mind at San Diego Comic Con a few times. But I’m surprised I haven’t met more bloggers. Maybe because I don’t go to events that much anymore.
So cool! Yeah, I don’t go to many big ones anymore. Not that it is easy to get tickets anymore it seems.
No but I would love to eventually. I have a few I chat with on messenger or social media and I’ve attended some Youtube/Booktube events bur nothing in person.
I hope you get a chance to do that some day!
I did do a zoom book discussion once with an author and 4 bloggers. It was fun, but we never did it again. I met one blogger in person a few times on my way down to Florida, I stopped in North Carolina 3 times and we had coffee and exchanged books. We haven’t done it since covid though. I would love to meet more bloggers, as it is nice to meet in person the people that I consider my friends.
Agreed!
I quite often participate in online book related discussions. Bookreporter.com is one that has monthly opportunities to learn about new books publishing and there is often great discussion in the accompanying chat.
That sounds neat!
It’s fun that you’ve been able to meet some people IRL. I think Zoom counts because you’re talking and seeing each other.
I agree!
I met up with my co-bloggers, who are no longer on the blog at several book events. We had a great time. Yes, Zoom has been a great way to “meet” and chat! I’ve enjoyed our read-along chats!
Agreed!
Fun that you met at cons and made friends after. Being able to go online and meet is a great thing. I think Zoom chats should definitely count. 🙂
Agreed!
