The night in 1982 that changed everything…
There is no way I can resist avenging my sister’s broken heart by filling her cheating boyfriend’s bitchin’ DeLorean with extra buttered movie popcorn, a half-melted Snickers, and the contents of one shaken can of Tab.
There’s only one six-foot-six-inch problem. It’s not The Creep’s car. It’s Frank “The Airhead” Hartigan’s. Now he wants me to drive him to Harbor City to make up for trashing his ride.
On the outside, I’m all gag me with a spoon, but on the inside? Yeah, not so much. The truth is I haven’t stopped thinking about him since that night at Marino’s Bar when he rocked my world to the max—something that can’t happen again.
Frank Hartigan isn’t a guy you fall for if you want to keep your heart in one piece. Waterbury is littered with the broken hearts of the women who forgot that, and I am not about to join their ranks.
Fine. I’ll drive him around town, but that’s it.
No kisses.
No getting hot and bothered.
No toe-curling anything.
And no matter what happens tonight, my heart—and my panties—will for sure remain untouched.

Excerpt
“Earth to Katie,” Connie said between drinks. “Who made you shmile like thas?”
Katie schooled her face to something more neutral, because they were still early in phase one and Connie wasn’t yet drunk enough to miss Katie’s reaction to Frank Hartigan’s approach.
To buy a little time, she fluffed up her spiral curls and shifted her gaze to her sister. “What look?”
The ‘don’t-BS-me’ look that Connie shot Katie was a little wonky, because the gin, vodka, tequila, and Triple sec were starting to work their magic. “The one that says you’re about to do something stupid.”
Katie snorted. “I have never done anything stupid.”
Okay, that lie probably would work on the third graders she taught, but not on her twin.
“Puh-lease,” Connie said, rolling her eyes and then grabbing the edge of the table to steady herself, even though she hadn’t moved from her seat. “We shared a womb. I know you way too well for that.”
My Review
So I haven’t actually read all of the Hartigans series yet. However I know enough about the characters that I was excited for this prequel type of novel telling the romance of the parents that started the whole family. The fact that it was set in the 80s, when I was growing up, made me so much more excited about it as well!
It is a shorter story, maybe more of a novella than a novel? But it was a lot of fun, and I really loved spending time in the 80s with these fun and hilarious characters. I loved all the names of movies, tv shows, slang, cars, all the 80s bits in the story. There were steamy bits sprinkled throughout, and so much fun banter, as well as all the wonderful and fun characters in the small town.
My only complaint would be that the reasons she kept fighting the attraction and pushing Frank away got to be a bit annoying after a while. At a certain point she should have been able to easily see that the supposed player personality he had wasn’t true. Not once did he show anything like that in the story. However, when things did come together at the end, that made up for that issue.
Such a fun story, and now I have to go back and read those books in the series that I haven’t read yet!

I read some of the early Hartigans but that’s been a long time ago. I didn’t realize they were still happening.
This is a prequel because it is the parents’ story.
I grew up in the 80s too. It does sound like all the references would be fun!
I wonder if everyone from different decades love references as much as us 80s babies do!
An 80’s gal here, too. Sounds fun even with her being oblivious about his character half the time.
That oblivious thing is such a big thing that is done a lot, it can get annoying to me!
