I’m connecting up once again with Kimberly at Caffeinated Reviewer.
Sunday started out cloudy and cold. But the sun came out as I was doing laundry and blogging and stuff around the house. I went over about mid-day to help my mom wrap my niece’s birthday gift and get it put in her car because it was a heavy lamp. Then for dinner/my niece’s birthday/Superbowl party, I went to my brother’s house. Sadly it’s like the Chiefs we knew from all season were not playing. But honestly the Eagles were just really really good. Not going to give any excuses for my Chiefs. They did not play well at all. So instead of heart attacks like we usually get from them, it was a heart ache kind of game. It’s like they tried to do their usual comeback at the very end, but it was unfortunately too little too late. Oh well, I figured it would be too lucky for us to win a third one.
Monday started off already kind of down because of the game, but then work just sucked. It was crazy busy. In the first two hours of work, I did basically 3 things that were actually library tasks. I checked out books to 2 different students, and gave a DVD to a teacher that I’d checked out from the public library for him to use. One of the teachers that I consider a friend had been really mean about the Chiefs’ loss, even over social media during the game, so that didn’t help when he came in and sat down all of first hour like I wanted to hear someone bash on the team I like. I ordered my favorite Taco John’s through DoorDash for lunch since it was payday and I was having a bad day. Ran by the grocery store and got gas on the way home so that I would have gas in case of the cold weather coming this week. Realized I forgot to get one of the main things I needed, dishwasher detergent. Went to dinner with my mom at Texas Roadhouse since the weather again means I might not be wanting to get out the next couple nights. We stopped by Target on the way home so I could grab the dishwasher detergent. Then I had to get a review posted, and a blog tour post up I didn’t realize I was actually supposed to do! Busy day.

Tuesday was pretty busy too. Also really cold and everyone talking and wondering if we’ll have snow days this week! One of the teachers came down because she’d told all the students there was a Black History Month display in the library and was shocked that I hadn’t gotten one put up. So I put aside the new books getting cataloged to get that up today! Stopped by the post office on the way home from work to mail out December’s wrap-up posts prizes to the winners. Came home and did some blogging before getting the call from my district at 5 pm that school was an AMI day on Wednesday because of inclement weather predicted. Then I had a Zoom meeting for my AASL Membership Engagement Committee, which we actually did some great planning for a book club idea, followed by just relaxing the rest of the evening!
Honestly there wasn’t much snow on Wednesday till I woke up about 4:30 am to take the dogs out. It was only an inch or two at the most, and by the time it was done, I’d be surprised if it even reached the 3 inch low on the scale they’d predicted. I had my mammogram scheduled for 4 pm because that would have been after school with time to go home and take care of my dogs. They called in the morning and asked if I wanted to move it up due to lots of other people canceling. I didn’t necessarily want to get out till I knew the roads were ok, but moved it up to 3. Then an hour or so later they called again as if they hadn’t just called and asked if I wanted to move it up. I moved up to 2, again, not wanting to get out until the roads were supposed to be better. If they’d wanted to just postpone for another day, I’d have been fine with that! And when the noon news said roads were still a little iffy, I just called back and rescheduled the mammogram for next week. That way I could stay in my pjs all day and blog and hang with the dogs! I also got a visit with the neurologist’s NP scheduled for sooner than the August appointment I had with the doctor. Then at 3 pm got the call from my district that Thursday would be the remote learning again because of the extreme cold and roads still needing some work.

Thursday morning was extremely frigid, but I didn’t notice much since I was home and slept in! The sun came out mid morning and that was really nice. My dogs love to lay in the sunlight if I leave the back door open so it comes through the storm door. The picture isn’t great since I took it from clear in the office where I have a straight view through the dining room to the living room. My mom texted about running some errands, so she and I went to lunch and I went and picked up one of the Valentine’s Day bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cake. Then I came home and just blogged and hung out! There was an email from YouTube TV about how they were having issues getting a contract with Paramount taken care of, and so today was supposed to be the day. I was kind of mad about that, because they’d just raised our price $10 a month, so why would we lose all those channels?

Friday was back to school! These weeks are crazy with all the snow days. And all anyone could talk about at school was how next week there is more snow and extremely frigid temps predicted mid-week again. I’d pre-ordered the Valentine’s Day dozen donuts from Duck Donuts Wednesday night, and so I picked those up on my way to school and shared them with other staff members. I got a cute sparkly red duck with my purchase! It was a mostly busy day, but a normal-ish day in the library. I asked to get my new clerk to work in the library next Monday and Tuesday so I could get her trained for when I would be gone on Wednesday, although with the current weather forecast, that may not even be needed! I also got an email from the US Gov for student loans, and I don’t want to jinx anything, but it’s extremely possible I may have earned the Public Service Loan Forgiveness and be in the process of having the rest of what I owe forgiven! I’m afraid to think it is for sure though until I get a notice saying that! I had planned to stay home and order something in and just hang out as I usually do on Valentine’s Day, but my brother invited me to his house and I figured since it was my mom’s first Valentine’s Day without my stepdad, I’d go be a part of the family get together.

Saturday wasn’t too bad in the morning, close to 40 degrees or a little warmer when I went to watch my nephew play basketball at 9 am. Then I went home for a bit, because I was supposed to meet with my dad, stepmom, and youngest sister for our usual Saturday coffee. But since it was supposed to get colder throughout the day and maybe drizzle turn to freezing roads, my dad decided we would skip today. It did get colder as the day progressed, but no rain or precip during the day. So instead I went to my nephew’s noon basketball game that I think was making up for one missed due to weather earlier this year. My mom and I went to Costco in the afternoon, then I came home and did a bit of blogging before watching the new Bridget Jones movie.
Books Finished

All three of these were e-galleys. First was from the author’s team and my review was posted on Tuesday. Second was an e-galley I forgot I downloaded from Edelweiss back before it was published last year so I had to read and review it, posted that on Thursday. Third was another e-galley I almost forgot about, the publisher had sent me a link on Netgalley. I got it downloaded to read and review this past week, yesterday, before it comes out this week.

This was from the library, downloaded on Libby. Although it may end up as a DNF.

E-galleys:

Actually the first 3 were sent to me by publishers last week, but I don’t know that I can fit them into my review/reading schedule since I’m trying to get to my books I already own, so I didn’t download them yet. The 3rd one is more likely to be one I will be able to get to. The 4th one is for a blog tour at the end of this month. The last 3 are for blog tour reviews next month, the very last one I’ll share the cover tomorrow.

First was a free novella for signing up for this author’s newsletter, I met her at Flirty in Kansas City last weekend. The rest were free on Amazon.

What I’m Watching
Of course I watched the Superbowl last Sunday, and as everyone knows by now, the Chiefs played horribly, and the Eagles played perfectly. Outlander rewatches as I wanted to fit in with no new tv. Still enjoying the new Hollywood Squares on Wednesday nights. New episode of Ghosts, although as I mentioned above, with the YouTube TV contract running out with Paramount, might not be able to watch it next week! Saturday night I watched the new Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy movie. The movie had me in tears. Although I had a feeling that she would end up with who she did. One thing though, I feel like they must have done something to make her look really old. Because she’s only 55, there’s no way she looks as bad as she did at times in that movie.
What’s Coming Up Next Week

First is an e-galley for the author’s review team, should post review on Thursday. Second is an e-galley for a blog tour review I’ll post on Saturday.
Final Thoughts
I ended up adding back my monthly wrap-up giveaway because I had planned for 6 winners but only had 4 people enter last month’s, so lots of books left to give away! HERE is the link to that giveaway if you want to go back and enter, three winners hopefully this month!
How was your second week of February? Did you do anything for Valentine’s Day since that was this week?
We are now halfway through February! What are you looking forward to this coming week? We normally would have Monday off for President’s Day, but with the snow days we had in January we added that back as a regular school day.

Yeah we had the same bit of snow going on here as well! Wednesday ended up being a wasted snow day for my sister as we didn’t get all that much. It was mostly sleet. We’re predicted to get more this Tuesday and Wednesday as well, which really seems a lot for us as I feel like we rarely get snow during winter. Since I work from home I don’t mind it at all. Lol. As long as I don’t have to drive in weather like this, I’m fine with it happening! Glad the week seemed to have gone fairly well! We were surprised by the Super Bowl outcome ourselves, this is not at all what anyone predicted! I’m imagining how much money was lost with people gambling on the Chiefs and wondering what lucky Eagles betters won! Crazy! I was dismayed that the Clydesdale commercial with Budweiser was shorten. My mom and I were like, this doesn’t seem like their usual take on the matter, it was still cute of course, but then I went on YouTube and watched it with the few extra seconds that were left out.
Nice new reads too! All totally new to me ones but I hope you enjoy each and every one of them as you get to read them!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
Yeah, in a way it felt like a wasted snow day but then they showed the roads and the wrecks and I was glad I didn’t have to drive to work in it! We’ll see what happens this week too! I guess they shorten the commercials during the game because they have to pay per second or something like that? I thought there were actually a few good ones this year for a change. I was ready to be done with football season anyway, I wish we’d won, but at least now I got to switch over to my Vera Bradley Belle purse I got for Christmas.
It’s been cold and another cold week ahead. You got a lot of freebies this week. I kind of always do because they are free. I especially like first books in series because then I have an idea if I would be interested in the rest. I love seeing the dogs in the sun. Stay warm!
It’s hard not to get freebies, I mean they are free! I am trying to limit myself more to ones that aren’t like 350-400 pages or more. Because I find myself not wanting to get started on those when I go look for one to read. Yeah, another cold week ahead, and some snow for us. Kind of hoping this is the last of the big snows for the season.
Sounds like you had a super busy week! Between the weather, work, and family events, it’s no wonder you needed a little time to just hang out with your dogs and blog. The Super Bowl loss must have been rough, but at least you had some good food and time with family to make up for it. Hope this next week is a little less chaotic for you!
I’m hoping for more time for just being home this week too! This weekend was a lot of in and out of the house and not much time to just sit and blog like I usually do. It was a rough loss, but it happens! I mean a team winning three years in a row has never happened, so it wasn’t likely.
As a Pats fan, I understand and can empathize with your emotions over the Super Bowl. We got together with our neighbors for a party, which was a lot of fun, especially without a team in the running. We got two more snow storms this week, but both turned to rain midway through. Now the temps are going to drop, so everything will be a mess. Glad tomorrow is a holiday; although I have to drive my daughter back to school.
Our snow was less than the large amounts predicted this past week, but still enough it made the roads slippery so that I was glad they canceled school. Looks like more of the same or worse weather for us this week. No holiday for us tomorrow since we have to use it to make up for snow days at the beginning of January.
The new blog header is super cute!! The Chiefs were just terrible. We got snow today and it is suppose to be in the teens all week here.
Thanks! I got this header last year I think. Yeah, it was crazy how bad they were! I mean they tried right at the end to do their usual magic, but it was too little too late. We’re supposed to have single digits and below zero this coming week I think. Brrr!
I loved Bridget Jones and both laughed and cried! It warms my heart to see your dogs enjoying the sunshine. It brings back wonderful memories for me. Have a great week.
Yes, so much laughing, but also a lot of crying for me! It was a good movie and I enjoyed it though!
The Super Bowl was kind of a washout. Bummer. Not nice to have a coworker bag on the team you love. Yay for snow days! I hope you qualify for that loan forgiveness!
Yeah, it was annoying for that co-worker to keep going on and on. I think I got the loan forgiveness, but I won’t quite believe it until I get something showing there is nothing left in my the accounts.
I have been enjoying the sunshine in Florida, and don’t miss the snow and cold at home. I want to watch that Bridget Jones movie. I have heard it was really good from a few people now. Wow, you did add a lot of books this one, but it is so hard to resist all the freebies. I hope you have a great week, Lisa.
LOL! My mom actually texted me and my brother this morning and said she thinks we should move somewhere warmer. Personally I like the snow days as a teacher, since they are the only bonuses we get! I enjoyed Bridget Jones, hope you get to watch it and enjoy it soon! It is so hard to resist a freebie! I need to remember to go skim all the way to the last page of them though so the author gets credit for it as a sale of some sort.
I watched the Superbowl, but it was basically just an excuse to get together with people since I don’t follow football at all. But one of the people we watched with was a big Chiefs fan, so it was disappointing when the game was so one-sided. Sorry it was depressing for you!!
That’s all the Superbowl had been for us in KC until Patrick Mahomes came along. lol. It was a sad game, but no one’s fault except our own team.
The dogs look so cute laying in the sunlight. I saw there’s a new Bridget Jones movie! I need to watch it. Happy reading this week!
The new movie was fun, but also so emotional! Hope you get a chance to watch it soon if you want to!
Those donuts look amazing, and now I’m craving donuts! Lol. Wow, so much snow and maybe more on the way! We had a big rain storm last week but it wasn’t cold enough to snow. I’m relieved since it’s so hard to get around with lots of snow.
Have a good week Lisa!
Every time I look at the picture, or when they send texts with deals I start craving the donuts, lol. Yeah, snow is not fun, that’s why I’m glad we usually get the day off as teachers, lol.
Hi Lisa, We have been getting snow here in NH too, lots of it. I work for a college and they never issue snow days, it is such a bummer. Looks like you added a lot of great books this week. Happy belated Valentines Day!
I remember one time when I was in college in the 90s when they did actually cancel school one day. Of course with the crazy age we were we still went out on campus and messed around in the snow.
Ugh. I’m sorry about that insensitive coworker who kept going on about the Chiefs. I don’t envy you all that cold and snow, but snow days sound nice. Since I am set up to work part of the week at home, I imagine it wouldn’t do much good though–I’d still have to work. But not to have to go into the office would be nice. Your new ARCs and freebies all look like they will be good fun reads. I am glad you enjoyed Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. I think I’ve only seen the first movie. I hope you have a good week!
The snow days might continue adding up this week, or at least into some really cold days having off this week. I need to remember if it is an AMI day or remote learning, that even though I’m not teaching any classes I have to be checking my email throughout the day. It had been a long time since I’d watched the second movie of the Bridget Jones series. I might have to go back and rewatch both of the first two. Although this one made me cry so much, I probably won’t watch it again.
Wow those donuts look delicious!!!! And Taco Johns!!! I haven’t had Taco Johns since I lived in Arizona! Cute pic of the sunbathing doggies!
I love this place’s donuts because they’re really normal sized cake donuts with the yummy toppings. So I don’t feel like I’ve overdone it when I have one. Taco John’s is my favorite fast food Mexican. I love that I work close to it. If I got another job somewhere else, I’d not be able to have it as much sadly.
Your Monday sounds like a really tough day with everything going on and how busy it was. It’s nice when you can get an easy meal for lunch and dinner on those type of days. Neat you got that Black History Month display up so fast. And that book club planning sounds fun. That sounds nice you had a snow day and could stay home the whole day, makes sense to reschedule your mammogram for next week so you didn’t have to go out with the roads being iffy. Your dogs look so cute in that picture and the Valentine’s Day bundt cakes look good. Those donuts look good too. And that’s exciting to hear you might’ve earned that Public Service Loan Forgiveness, fingers crossed you actually get that.
I see you got a Laura Greenwood book! I really like that series and that book is a fun one. I hope this week will be a good one.
I did for sure get the loan forgiveness program finally, so that was a nice thing to have for sure this week. I don’t think I’ve read Greenwood yet, so I’m excited to get to that one!
I am so happy for you that you got the loan forgiveness! That’s awesome news. And I hope you enjoy that Laura Greenwood book, she’s one of my favorite authors.
