Crockpot bbq chicken sandwich

Sunday was a beautiful sunny day! It got up to almost 60 degrees! I woke up and put together a breakfast casserole I’d gotten from putting the ingredients into ChatGPT and baked it instead of using the crockpot. Still had the issue with the eggs not quite cooking in the time it said, so had to put it back in the oven a couple times. I also put some chicken breasts into the crockpot with some Fiorella’s Jack Stack BBQ sauce and after a couple hours on high, I shredded the chicken and made a sandwich on King’s Hawaiian sub sandwich bread for lunch. The extra shredded chicken and sauce will last me the rest of the week for lunches at work. A guy in the neighborhood had stopped by and offered to use a pressure sprayer to clean the mold off the north side of my house for $50, and he came by to do that today. So now the side of my house looks so much better! I did some blogging in the afternoon. Family dinner was canceled because my sister-in-law had influenza A. So my mom and I went and had dinner instead.

Monday was a beautiful weather day. Which was good since we had an unplanned fire drill. Don’t know if a student pulled the alarm, or if the construction workers maybe accidentally did something? But at least the monthly drill is over now and it was on a beautiful 60 degree day! It was a busy day in the library. My new clerk came in first thing in the morning, but I told her she’d better check with the AP first to see what they wanted her to do. I’m not even going to pretend I actually have a clerk until I see someone sent immediately to me and not pulled. I put up a Black History Month bulletin board. After school I stopped by Community America bank and signed the papers for my HELOC. I have 3 days to change my mind (which I won’t) and then on Friday I will be able to pick up the checks they’ve written directly to my credit cards to pay them off. Enjoyed a night at home and worked on reading my current book which is good, but long and I need time to just sit and read!

Got the idea and the digital files to print this out on Etsy.

Tuesday the temps had dropped and I was using my seat heater in my car in the morning! We had the start of testing for our ELD students that is supposed to last at least the rest of this week. So the library was “closed” for the most part. We still have a classroom in there now that students had to come to class, and I still had to deal with laptops that were broken or for students who needed loaners. I actually used the mostly quiet day in the library to fill out a couple online applications for other school districts. I came home and did a bit of blogging. Went out to dinner with my mom. We finally decided we are going to NOLA for my spring break. We booked plane tickets, only $360 each with straight flights, no stops! We also picked a hotel, and splurged an extra $25 a night for a room with a balcony. Then I came home and snuggled with the dogs!

Wednesday morning woke up to a call/text from my school district that due to the icy road conditions they had decided on an AMI day. Which yay for a day off for me! But, the dogs had gotten me up about an hour and a half before I normally get up, so I’d washed my hair and wrapped it up in a towel to go back to bed for that little bit of time. So I had frizzy hair when I woke up, because it was dry now and I have wavy hair if I don’t blow dry it like usual. Spent the cold day at home in my pjs working on my budget, blogging, and reading. The evening was a little scary for me as while Dora was laying on the couch while I was watching tv, she started a high pitch barking and then her head kind of came straight up so her neck was pointing her nose towards the ceiling and she jerked a bit before falling over and just kind of laying quietly. It was probably less than a minute, but I’m sure it was a seizure. And I think she’s had them other times, like at night a while back. I of course Googled it, and honestly since it was less than a minute, and it isn’t happening a lot, I will just talk to the vet when we go in for shots in the next month or so, unless it starts happening more. She’s 14 now, a year older than her older sister lasted, but I’m not ready. I mean she is so much healthier and hasn’t had the back problems or bladder stones like my Sydney did. 🙁

Back to the real world on Thursday which meant more testing in the library to make up for the day we missed on Wednesday. It was busy, I had to call students down for testing again. I also went up to a teacher’s room to check out some novels for their class since they couldn’t come down to the library to do that. It was a sunny, slightly warmer day. I knew my next two days would be busy and my niece’s birthday celebration was Sunday, along with Super Bowl watching, so I needed to get out and get her a card, and the rest of her gift other than the book I’d already bought her. I also decided to take back the other copy of the Penny Reid book I had pre-ordered back in July and couldn’t cancel since I had other books on there that had already shipped. Of course instead of just getting the money put back on my credit card, I got a store credit and immediately went and found a book to buy, lol. I also got my shopping done for my niece’s birthday gift and bought some Chiefs cookies!

Friday was another cold day. Got to school to find some construction workers now parking in the spots we use. Ugh. It was another kind of busy day at school. I’m being a little superstitious about my Chiefs playing on Sunday and so had to wear my usual Red Friday outfit to work. After school I ran by the library to pick up a DVD for a teacher to show next week in class. Then I stopped by the bank where my HELOC is through to get the checks to send to my credit card companies to pay them off. I got home and did a bit of getting those ready to go before going to meet one of my Outlander tour friends for dinner, since she was in town visiting her daughter. She’s a Philadelphia Eagles fan, so we joked about that.

Saturday morning I got up a little early to run and try an iced tea from the new Dutch Bros by my house to take with me when I went to help my author friend at the Flirty in Kansas City author event. It was an okay day. She didn’t do bad, but for the amount having a table cost, it isn’t probably worth it to do another year because she only made half of what the table cost selling 11 books. On the other hand, I was bad and bought like 8 books. Oops! Came home after, ordered Chipotle to be delivered for dinner and then just blogged, needed to write and post a review, and get this post finished. Finished the evening watching tv on the couch with the dogs.

This was the first table they assigned us, but we moved to one with the wall behind us instead of another author when there was one that no one showed up for. I got her the tree to display the books for Christmas!

First was the last audio novella in that series. Second I read the e-galley of and posted my review at the beginning of the week. Third was an ARC I got from the publisher, read and reviewed it this past week. Fourth is another short audio novella I listened to this week.

ARCs:

None

Audiobooks:

none

Bookish stuff:

Got my Pickle-gram from author J.J. Knight’s Patreon with a fun sticker!

E-galleys:

none

Free ebooks:

Both were free on Amazon.

Physical books:

So, I returned a pre-order that I’d ordered from another store that had swag from the author. And instead of just taking the money back to my card like I should have, I got a store credit and bought another book, lol, the first one. The second picture was a pre-order that I got this week. Still need to read it though! Third was a surprise package from a favorite author that I got Saturday night. I was checking my email while laying in bed right before I was going to turn the lights out and saw I had a package that had been delivered at 7:45 pm. So I got up and went to see what it was, and it was a favorite book with fun stickers and other swag! Now I have to figure out how I got it, lol.

So I bought 8 books at Flirty in Kansas City. The bottom one was for my mom, but the rest are for me. Here are close-up pics of them with the goodies that they came with.

No Chiefs game this week since today is the Superbowl! Enjoyed new episode of Ghosts. And of course when nothing was home I put on reruns of Outlander, back in season 1 again. If only I could play the Sims again, I could have that on in the background while I played. I’d probably create a whole family named after the characters on the show. I used to do that with Buffy characters back in the days when I was playing.

First was the only scheduled review book for the week. Second was an overdue e-galley I thought I’d get done last week but didn’t. Hopefully I’ll go ahead and read a review book that is for next week also, and try to get ahead so I can add in a TBR book or two over the next couple weeks. I have a Discussion Post planned for Monday, and a book blitz.

How was your first week of February? Will you be watching the Super Bowl tonight? Even if you’re not rooting for my Chiefs, are you rooting for the Eagles, or just watching for the commercials or half time?

What are you looking forward to this coming week?

I ended up adding back my monthly wrap-up giveaway because I had planned for 6 winners but only had 4 people enter last month’s, so lots of books left to give away! HERE is the link to that giveaway if you want to go back and enter, three winners hopefully this month!

  1. Sounds like a decent week! Hope everything with the HELOC went well and you got those things taken care of! Yeah the weather was insane this week! I think it was fairly nice on Sunday…so long ago I can’t remember! Then it got colder again! I am one of those weird Midwesterners who enjoys the cold! I can do without the snow, but when everyone is moaning for Spring, I’m clinging to winter. Spring means two weeks of nice temps, possible storms that given me anxiety that I do not look forward to, and then we’re climbing the temperature scale and dealing with horrendous heat and it won’t leave until October! I know how our weather looks, so I enjoy these 2-3 months of winter weather! Lol.

Nice new reads! I enjoyed that Jenna Levine one! Still need to read the second book which deals with characters we met in the first one! I love a good quirky paranormal rom com. There’s usually the right blend of paranormal chaos to keep me invested with the cutesy romance! Lol. Hope you enjoy all of your lovely new reads!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

I’m with you, I like winter! And I like a little snow because as a teacher, snow days are the only “bonus” we get, lol. But yeah, I like spring weather, but it only seems to last a couple weeks before it is into the heat, and I hate sweating for no reason. I’m starting to get into more paranormal romance, specifically the rom-coms. The HELOC is done and I have the checks to mail, just have to make sure some get there before the current payment is due this week! Because I usually just pay online, but the bank wanted to do checks directly to the companies, I’m sure to make sure that’s where the money actually went. I think as long as things are postmarked by the due date it is okay?

  2. I love how nice the house looks after a nice power wash. $50 is a steel for that! My husband has been trying to get me to wear a Chiefs Jersey that’s hanging in the closet but I’m refusing. It’s three sizes to big and I’m only 4’10”, it’ll look like a hideous dress. He says if we lose it’s my fault. What a nice surprise from the author. I thought Ghosts was extra funny this week. I hope you have a wonderful week!

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, I had someone else stop by last fall and offer to do the side of the house but it was at least $100 more! LOL, if you haven’t warn the jersey before, I think it’s okay. I’m all about superstitions and doing the same things, so I had to wear my Red Friday tshirt, and drink about of the same cup today that I always do on game days, etc.

I never used to watch the Superbowl either. Maybe if I liked the artist performing at half time, but that hasn’t happened in a long time either! Now I will probably use the half time to drive home from my brother’s house since I’ll have work tomorrow morning! lol

    • Lisa Mandina

It’s nice that it was that easy to get rid of those stains on the wall. My stepdad had said he was going to come help me with the year before he got really sick, but then of course it didn’t happen. I’m sure he’d be happy to see that someone came and helped me out. Thanks for visiting!

    • Lisa Mandina

There are a few things around my house I need to do this summer. Last summer was just making it through after losing my stepdad. And then the crazy storm we had that knocked the tree onto my shed and fence made that the top priority! Yeah, I’m anxious for the game tonight. It would be awesome to win, but my pessimistic self just thinks it isn’t something that will happen.

  3. Sounds like a pretty good week. We are cleaning up from our second snow in four days. I was sure to snow-blow a path through my backyard to my neighbor’s house where we are having the Super Bowl party. I don’t care who wins, and will probably not watch much, but I’m excited to get together with friends. I’m making a pot of sloppy joes to take.

    • Lisa Mandina

We are supposed to have 3 or 4 snows this week I think! In the past I never watched Superbowl games, although I did enjoy going to parties with friends and family. I’m excited for my Chiefs, but also leads to a nerve-wracking day and party not so fun as I know if the Chiefs do win, it won’t be without giving us several heart attacks!

  4. Glad to hear that you had a pretty good week overall. Plus a snow day is always a plus in my book. Lol. I will be going to a Super Bowl party today, but mostly because of the food 😆 I literally do not understand football at all. Lol. I’ll probably take a book to read while the game is going on.

    • Lisa Mandina

I never used to care about football or understand it. Then my hometown team started doing better, and we got Patrick Mahomes who is a neat guy besides being a good player, and I started watching games and understanding a little bit more. I used to sit at home and maybe have the game on to see the commercials and the half time show while I read a book, lol.

  5. My husband tuned into the game for a little bit today and said the Chiefs aren’t doing too well. I know a lot of people who were pulling for them, especially for Patrick Mahomes. I hope your niece had a nice birthday celebration. The books you brought home from the Flirty in Kansas City even look good! I hope you have a good week, Lisa!

    • Lisa Mandina

Yep, it was a sad game, the Chiefs did not seem to show up until the end. Which might be how they usually win, but the Eagles were just too far ahead at that point.

    • Lisa Mandina

The commercials this year were better than I think they have been the past couple of years. I mean I’ve only watched when the Chiefs were in it, otherwise I am not a sports person! It wasn’t a fun day, that game was just sad for us. The Eagles played so well, and it looked like the Chiefs weren’t even there till the end.

  6. Sounds like a good week but sorry about your puppy. We had a boxer who suffered from seizures but they weren’t often either so we let them be. They can be scary though. Sending good thoughts our way. I loved My Roommate is a Vampire. The second one was good too as I loved the side character book two focused on. In fact, he was my favorite part about book one. Hope you have another great week. We are expecting snow Tuesday and I am over winter but oh well.

I had a dog I grew up with that had major seizures, so Dora’s weren’t as scary as that. Other than she’s my baby girl, so it is scary! I may not get to that one till later this year, but can’t wait to read it! We’re expecting snow this week and I’m definitely a-ok with more days off of school! lol

    • Lisa Mandina

It was yummy! I need to make some more. I can’t wait to go to NOLA, starting to look at tours to do while we’re there.
