Weekly Wrap-Up #197 – November 10th, 2024

I’m connecting up once again with Kimberly at Caffeinated Reviewer.

Sunday morning Argyle seemed to be doing better after being sick the day before. He ate his breakfast and was moving around a little better. I met up with my dad, stepmom, and sister for coffee at a new place called McClain’s at noon. We were just sitting and talking when at 2 pm one of the employees came over and told us they were closing. Oops! But the breakfast burrito I had was sooooo good! So we’ll probably go there again. Then I went home and did a little more blogging before running some errands. Had dinner at my brother’s house with his family and me and my mom.

Monday still had to go in to work in the morning, but no students. It was a rainy day. We had professional development all day. My AP came over to me in the morning where I was sitting at my desk like I usually do, and told me I needed to come out and sit with the rest of the teachers so she didn’t get in trouble. I did. The district is doing Marzano strategies, something we did in the last district I taught in. I like the strategies, so it’s not like it is a complete waste of time. And I was able to work on at least one idea for a lesson if I get some teachers to come down and do research this year. Then I went out to dinner with my mom. Afterwards came home to watch the Chiefs game. I was ready for it to finally be our first loss of the season when it went to overtime. But I just couldn’t turn the tv off and go to sleep even though it was past the time I normally do that, and I’m glad I didn’t!

Tuesday was another cooler, gray, misty/rainy day. It was a work day, so no kids at school. I got a lot done. Started getting my Native American Heritage Month display up. I’ll take a picture when it is finished. After reaching out to all the other secondary librarians in my district to ask if they ever had their clerk pulled, finding out they did not, I emailed my assistant principal asking if it was possible that the new person they supposedly hired for the position could just work in the library as his “home base” and go to help when needed. I emailed around 10 am, didn’t hear back before I went home for the day. I did leave at 2 instead of 2:30 so I could go vote though. As usual, there was no line to vote at my polling place. I got in and out in about 15 minutes. Came home to hand out with the dogs for the rest of the night and relax before having students back at school on Wednesday.

Wednesday started okay. Then my AP called me to come talk to her about the email I’d sent. She said she has been fighting for me and I’m not working with her. She told me people are complaining I’m still not teaching and just “sitting at my desk”. I tried to remind her that I needed a clerk in there so I could teach and go to classrooms. I got no change with having someone come work in the library with me. It’s a vicious circle that is never going to work out in any way that is in my favor. I did a tiny bit of training for the new guy to come down and show him the laminator and how to work it. I showed him how to do a few things in the library. He left shortly after that. So yeah. Not sure what the point is. And I am now going to help the AP with testing. She jumped right on that offer. I’m tired of all of this. A little depressed today. Came home and made another crockpot mix. Almost forgot Survivor was on and started Outlander, my comfort watch.

Thursday was a busy day in the library. We had the geometry classes, a speaker with our freshman seminar classes every other hour, the superintendent I think came to meet with some students in the conference room in the morning too. There was a big fight during lunch, I could hear it from the cafeteria, which is open up to our floor so the noise travels. I decided to create a No-vember display. My “clerk” came down at 10 am and turned on the laminator to help. He turned it on to warm it up, but then had to go help with some discipline stuff, and when he did come back he never bothered with it again. I did hear back from the district level person by email. Who knows if that will do anything. After work I went to hold puppies because I needed puppy time.

Friday was another busy day in the library, either a class or speakers every hour. The guy who is supposed to be my new clerk wasn’t even in the building at all today. So it was pretty much a normal day as it has been. I’ve given up on trying to get any changes here. Just lots of gaslighting from my AP and just dealing with it and saying no when I don’t want to do something that isn’t really part of my jjob to take care of myself and my own mental health. Also finally got the back fence finished today, and it looks great! Now to just get a new shed. Went to dinner with my mom, then came home and relaxed by rewatching Outlander.

Saturday morning was rainy and drizzly. I got up and met my author friend for breakfast. Then I ran some errands and went home to blog for a bit. In the afternoon I met her to go help her out at another author event for the evening. The author event was a lot of fun. I bought more books than I should have, but one had been on my TBR since the book event last February, so I figured to go ahead and get it now. The others were so pretty as you’ll see in my pics in what I added to my library below!

First was another audiobook for the Gateway nominees I finished up, it’s review will be in my L-L-L post at the end of the month. Second was an ARC from the publisher I posted the review last week.

I’ll also be posting an audiobook review this week that I finished listening to last month.

ARCs:

None

Audiobooks:

First was my Audible credit use for the month. I probably won’t start it till the week of Ho-Ho-Ho Readathon. Second was a download from the library on the Libby app, another Gateway possible nominee for next year, I was a little bored, so I downloaded another Gateway possibility with the third one above.

Bookish Stuff:

First is some bookmarks and also a middle grade book from the book event Saturday night. My author friend likes to support debut authors, so she bought the books, but she doesn’t really read middle grade books, so I am going to donate it to one of the middle schools in my district. Second is a really cool tote bag I got at the event from a local bookstore that had a table. They also had the fun bookmark. And the third picture is the sticker pack I got from being on Helena Hunting’s review team.

E-galleys:

This is for a blog tour the week before Thanksgiving.

Free E-books:

All of these were free on Amazon. Last year I bought the first one in the series for the first one above because I adored the cover, and I did enjoy it. I would have bought this too, but yeah, I have to stop buying books, lol. So when I saw it was free, I had to grab it! Maybe I’ll fit it in for Ho-Ho-Ho Readathon.

Physical books:

The first one was the book I’d had on my Goodreads TBR since last January. When I bought the book she gave me the bag too! The second picture is a table I wandered by and the books were so pretty with their colorful sprayed edges I had to stop and look. The stories are based on reality shows, the first one Big Brother, and the second one was The Bachelor, neither show do I actually watch. But for some reason I love to read romances set on reality shows like that! Of course the author gave bookmarks to match each book, and she had stickers we could choose a free one, and I picked the DNA bookshelf one.

All the usuals, Survivor, Ghosts, the Chiefs game which was on Monday night for a change. Also going through Outlander from the beginning again waiting for the 22nd when the new episodes will start again!

First is a blog review of an audiobook I finished last month. Second is the e-galley review for the author’s review team. And third is the e-gally review of this third book in a series I have loved.

Don’t forget I added in a monthly wrap-up giveaway again because my read ARC pile was getting big again! It just went up on Friday. And as I’m going through and getting rid of books, I’m finding I will probably continue to do 2 winners as I pull out more ARCs from my shelves that I’m not going to keep.

It’s frustrating, but I’ve got to stop dwelling on it and just do my best to make it through this year. I’m loving my new fence! I just wish I could afford to get all of it redone now.

  1. Sorry to hear about the stressful week. My jaw dropped when I read the recap of your AP asking you to try to work with them and whatnot. I mean really? Then to have the person they hired to help you basically be sent elsewhere seems counterintuitive to everything. So I can feel the stress and all the chaos just coming from your recap and I am so, so sorry to hear you’re dealing with that on top of all the normal day to day things. Keeping you in my thoughts that something turns around or a better opportunity comes along for you. <3

Nice new reads! Lots of new to me ones here but I do hope you enjoy each and every one of them!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

It’s just a vicious cycle at work, and I’m going to do my best to just not care what other people think that I’m not doing my job when I can’t do it with the way things are and no one will help. Good things are always new books!

Thanks. I’m really going to try this next week to not gripe about it so much here on my blog. Or in real life. Just accept it and do my best to deal with it.

I don’t feel like it’s worth going any farther, because I’ve still got till May to deal with a possibly hostile environment, so just going to accept it and try my best to leave work at work.

  2. UGH! I wish things were better for you. Did you get any leads on a new job yet? Looks like you have a few holiday romcom romances in the pile of books – those always cheer me up this time of year.

I’m applying for almost every other library job that pops up for next school year. May also even just look outside of education at this point. Surely I have good skills that would transfer over to other jobs, if I can just find one with a similar salary. I do love a good holiday romcom!
