Weekly Wrap-Up #196 – November 3rd, 2024

I’m connecting up once again with Kimberly at Caffeinated Reviewer.

Can you believe it is November! I love Thanksgiving and this time of the year, as you can tell by my new header that I just had made by Limabean Designs. As well as I’m breaking out the Thanksgiving weekly wrap-up button for this post already.

Sunday was the last day with our house guest, Rolla. Thank goodness. He started the day by hiking his leg and peeing on my back door when I was trying to do some blogging and all the other dogs were sleeping. It hadn’t even been an hour since we’d been outside. It was a chilly morning too. I ended up going over to work on my blogging at my mom’s house in the afternoon when I just couldn’t get the dogs to give me a break, and Rolla peed on the carpet. Dinner with the family at my mom’s, watched the Chiefs game of course, can’t believe they’re still undefeated, I keep waiting for them to lose every week.

Monday was a busy day in the library. Started the day off by dropping Rolla back at my friend’s house since she lives less than a mile from the school where I work. Found out my new library clerk is supposed to finally start on Tuesday. There was a big fight during 3rd hour. You’d think the students could control themselves with a short week like this, but not at this school. I saw a job opening for a district closer to where I live, where I actually did both my student teaching as well as my practicum for my master’s degree, at the same school I interviewed for this summer. I immediately applied online. They do an online virtual recorded interview, so I did that when I got home, afterwards just enjoying a night at home with just my two dogs. Stopped and got Chipotle for dinner because I can save half of a bowl for lunch the next day.

Tuesday I was supposed to get my new library clerk, and he did show up to say he was supposed to come cover my lunch at 11. However the sub I’d had a couple days a week over the past month showed up and said she’d been scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday this week with me. So oh well. Once again the same new assistant principal came in and asked me to basically print out name pages for every teacher with their names and what they taught for parent conferences at their tables. I’m getting really tired of being treated like I’m a secretary instead of a librarian. It was another busy day in the library. Very windy too! In the evening I went to dinner with my mom, and also we went to Sam’s Club so I could buy more candy for my students at school for the reading prizes, since she has a membership and I don’t anymore.

Wednesday was another really windy day, and a long day as after we had our usual early release day at school, students leaving at 1 pm, then at 2:30 we had parent conferences starting. I had my dad and stepmom go let my dogs out since I wouldn’t get home till almost 7 pm. But then the weather got kind of iffy, a tornado watch showed up, so they cancelled conferences after 5:30 instead. It was nice to get home before the rain and stormy weather hit. I was happy that Survivor didn’t get interrupted with weather people talking about tornadoes, because it does always seem to happen during that show for some reason. I was so tired though, that I was almost dropping my Kindle on my face while I was laying in bed reading, so I went to bed a half hour early.

Thursday morning it was much chillier, needed a jacket. I decided to stop by Duck Donuts before work and get their Spooky sampler box to take into work. I ate the maple bacon one and shared the rest with other teachers as they walked into the library. I had to set at the greeter table for an hour in the morning. Then I tried to do some of my own work and some blogging the rest of the day. We had an hour training in the middle of the day for our Signs of Suicide (SOS) day that we have in November. We were lucky to get off at 4 pm so I was able to go home, let my dogs out, then go have dinner at my brother’s house and see my niece and nephew go trick or treating. After I got home I gave my dogs Halloween presents. Couldn’t get very good pictures of them though.

Friday I got to enjoy sleeping in! I got up and finished my book, and then posted a review. Then I went and took like 8 big shopping size bags of books to Half Price Bookstore. I only got like $40, but at least I got rid of a bunch that I didn’t need to keep around the house. I need to continue going through my books. It’s just so hard to get rid of them! Then I went and bought myself a new Chiefs shirt, as well as running some errands, which included stopping by the Hallmark store that had the yummy crockpot mix I bought a couple weeks ago. Last time I got Creamy Cajun, this time I got Garlic Mozzarella.

Saturday didn’t get as great of rest. I put the dogs in their cage from about 11 pm – around 3 or 4 am. When I took them out and then we came back in, Argyle was acting weird. Very clingy, not really curling up in the blankets like usual. I took him back outside and he threw up. It was only that time, he pretty much just was very clingy the rest of the morning, so of course I was worried all morning. Did some blogging, laundry, etc. in the morning after I got up. Went to the gem and mineral show with my friend at noon. I bought a couple things even though I told myself not to. Came home and Argyle was still mopey. Wouldn’t eat. He’d eaten okay this morning, at least with treats. Will just watch him and see for now. Wondering if it is his back. We got some rain in the evening which was nice!

My gem and mineral show purchases were a pretty little orange bowl, and a cute little turtle with pretty colors on the back – although he might end up being a gift for someone else.

First was an audiobook I listened to for a blog tour this month. Second was the e-galley I was reading last week and didn’t get finished in time to post on Saturday. Third was a picture book I got at Target and of course as able to read very quickly. Fourth was the final SmartyPants Romance book for this release. Last was an e-galley for a blog tour this Monday or Tuesday?

ARCs:

I have read this author’s books in the Smartypants Romance world, but haven’t read the series this is a spinoff of. The publisher said I didn’t need to read that, so I said to go ahead and send this one. It comes out in February I think.

Audiobooks:

Got this from the library for the possible Gateway nominees. I haven’t read this author in a while, but I loved her Goddess series a while back, that’s the time when I got to meet her at BEA in NYC.

Bookish Stuff:

None

E-galleys:

I actually got the first one a few weeks ago, but forgot to mention it in a post I think. It’s for a review post this week, so thought I’d better share it. The second one I found on Edelweiss this week. And although it doesn’t come out till next year, I loved the first one, and so am excited for this sequel.

Free E-books:

First was a book of recipes from the latest books in the series that was free! You should be able to get a copy HERE. Second was a freebie on Amazon, may or may not fit it into the Ho-Ho-Ho Readathon. The rest were also freebies on Amazon. Some may fit into the HHHRAT. But we’ll see!

Physical books:

I went to pick this up the other day to do a reread before the Passionflix movie comes out in December. However I soon realized I only had the e-book and the audiobook, so I needed to order a physical copy for my shelf since I love the series. First I checked with the author that they wouldn’t be making a new cover for the movie like they did with both Driven and Wait With Me. When she said they weren’t, I just got the one that matches my copies of the others in the series.

The finale of Grotesquerie was this week. I don’t know that I’ll watch the next season because I really don’t care for the twist. It actually made it kind of boring for me. Watched the Chiefs game last Sunday. Watching new episodes of Survivor and Ghosts. Obviously continuing my rewatch of Outlander as I patiently wait for the second half of season 7 to start this month. Watched the Leprechaun episode of American Horror Stories, not sure if I liked it or not, but at least it got kinda scary towards the end. And the Under the Bed episode that was the final episode was okay too, weird ending, but definitely had a lot of creepiness. On Saturday night Elf was on, and I love that movie, so had to watch it.

The first two are the only books I have planned reviews for, but I am going to try to fit in some past dues or maybe finally some of my Beat the Backlist titles. Or maybe I’ll get ahead, and read the third one which is an ARC that isn’t due till next Monday. I might have a discussion post up this week too.

Don’t forget I added in a monthly wrap-up giveaway again because my read ARC pile was getting big again! It just went up on Friday. And as I’m going through and getting rid of books, I’m finding I will probably continue to do 2 winners as I pull out more ARCs from my shelves that I’m not going to keep.

Can you believe it is November? This first week is going to be a “short” one for school as we have meetings tomorrow, then Tuesday is a work day with no students so we can vote. How was your last week of October?

  1. No, I cannot believe it’s November. I need to start planning my Thanksgiving meal soon.

It’s horrible when you’re taken advantage of at your job. I have learned to say no and have those discussions with the people involved (and, yes, sometimes my boss) when necessary.

I am a huge Ghosts fan!

I try to say no as much as I can. But I worry about losing my job. However, I’ve got some next steps to take, and as always am looking for another job! I love Ghosts, it’s just so cute and funny!

I hope it works out. Or something does. I just know it’s a struggle every day here. Argyle seems to be feeling a little better today thankfully. He ate his breakfast and treats, so that is a good sign!

If he doesn’t get sent to sit in the library like the job is supposed to be, I’ll be reaching out to district level next as my library director suggested. The position I applied for is in the district where I student taught, but not at the same school. This is an elementary, which isn’t what I’ve wanted to do, but I’ve seen some cool things to do that have made me think maybe I could try it, especially if it gets me out of this job. I mean even if that is not the job that is exactly what I want, at least I’ll be closer to home, saving time and gas, and in a district more like what I’m used to working in or have worked in before.

  2. I like your new Halloween blog header. Michelle always does such great work on designs, she designed my blog graphics as well. Good luck with that new job you applied for, that one sounds promising! That’s good you managed to get home before the storm hit. I agree it’s hard to get rid of books, I donated a lot to a free little library in our grocery store a few years back. I want to do another pass and donate a few more. Sorry to hear about your dog throwing up, I hope he feels better soon. That turtle and bowl you got look nice. I hope next week is a good one for you!

Thanks! Got my Thanksgiving/November header up now. I love Michelle’s work! I keep asking her to make more headers for me, lol. Pretty soon I’ll have one for every month and/or holiday. Hmm, now I’m thinking I need a blogoversary or birthday one for next year! Argyle seems to be feeling better, no more throwing up since yesterday morning, and he ate his food too!

Book buying is a problem for me. I don’t buy all the books I read, but the ones I love I want to have on my shelves! 🙂

      • Your Thanksgiving/November header is great too. I like how you have different ones for some months and holidays, but they still look familiar enough that I always recognize it as your blog too. A blogoversary/ birthday one sounds fun. Glad to hear Argyle seems to be feeling better.

        • Lisa Mandina

Thanks! It’s fun to switch them up. I’m glad to have Argyle feeling better too. Makes for a little less stress!

    • Lisa Mandina

Argyle seems to be mostly back to normal today thank goodness, he ate his food and treats. The tentacle one looked fun, and it was free, so why not? lol

    • Lisa Mandina

Even if it’s just less of a drive home, it surely can’t be as bad of a situation, so I would deal with it, just to feel better.

  3. Yea for short weeks!! And I’m sending positive energy for the job interview/opening.

It was a nice weekend here – colder but sunny. We went out to dinner to celebrate my neighbor’s 20th (she’s like a daughter). On Sunday, my friend and I went to visit our girls away at school and took them shopping and to dinner. That was a healing balm on my soul. I miss her so.

    • Lisa Mandina

We shall see! I’m hoping they actually move on it pretty quickly. Would love to know soon that I won’t have to return to this job after this school year. Would make what I’m dealing with a lot easier to stand. I just got the new header, at this rate I’ll have one for every new holiday/month, lol!
