Weekly Wrap-Up #182 – August 11th, 2024

I’m connecting up once again with Kimberly at Caffeinated Reviewer.

Sunday was another hot day, but not as hot. Still not a fun day to be out. It was the last day of back to school tax-free weekend, so I ran up to Kohl’s to look for some clothes. Ended up only getting a pair of pants for work and a tshirt to wear for pjs. Did some cleaning around the house, needed to vacuum. I don’t know why I put it off as long as I do, I always like how nice the carpet feels right afterwards. Then I did some blogging. Went to my mom’s for dinner for yummy meatloaf and her homemade mac & cheese.

Monday, again, so hard to get up and get going! Another hot day as well. I was once again working in the other high school’s library all day. Got some of my graduate class work done. Printed out some post cards to give teachers telling them what the library can do for them. Added that same info to the presentation the admin will be using when they meet with the new teachers later this week so I can talk to them in person. Came home and did a bit of blogging before going out to dinner with my mom. My brother texted me and my mom while we were at dinner and asked if we wanted to go to the Royal’s baseball game Tuesday night because it was supposed to be really nice weather and he’d found some tickets at a good price in the lower level. Went to JoAnn’s with my mom and ended up buying one of the Happy Planner hole punches since they were 40% off so I could make my own planner for school, and I think for my blog planner next year! I do think I want to get the smaller discs for it though.

Tuesday ended up being my last day working at the other high school because we got an electricity update that we could come back to work in the building starting Thursday. I did some more graduate class work. On my way home from work I stopped to vote in the primary elections. Then went to the baseball game with my family. It was a beautiful night and I love our ballpark, even if the Royals lost. They seemed a couple times to maybe bring it back and win, but never quite got there. We did have pretty good seats too though!

Wednesday morning was hard to get up. However I kind of went in a little late because I figured we still weren’t back in the building, and I had to go for interviews for my clerk position at 8 am, so I just got to the building they had that in at 8. Then I worked for a bit in an open office until they had the new teacher luncheon and intro session. I got to enjoy the free lunch and also introduce myself and the library to the new teachers. I left at my normal time though because I had to get home and then had a hair appointment at 4 pm, which is when I’d normally go after a normal school day. Then I went to see the movie It Ends With Us. It was really good!

Now, my Wednesday was almost messed up completely when I got a notification from my bank that the tree people had deposited the check they had said they’d hold until I got the insurance money. Of course I didn’t find this out until an hour before I was getting ready to go to the movie, 6 pm. And of course the bank was closed. I was able to start a claim on it, but had to wait till Thursday morning to actually stop the check. Fortunately the woman with the tree company told me her brother had deposited it and she told me to go ahead and stop payment on it.

Thursday was so nice to be back working in my library! We also ended up hiring my library clerk, hired the person who had been my sub at the end of last school year. I got to go to the Guiding Coalition meeting at school, I think I was supposed to be there. Found out from my insurance that I needed a detailed estimate from that tree company before they could see what they’d pay. Ugh. So then I got home and was happy to spend the night at home. Spent the night finishing the book I was behind on, Northern Twilight, but wasn’t able to get the review posted before I went to bed.

Friday was another productive day I felt like in my library. Met one of the new tech people who will be stationed in our building as well. I made a passport thing for an activity all the teachers will be doing one day during out back to school meetings next week on Canva. I worked on figuring out what I wanted to do on my bulletin boards as well. I feel like so far dealing with my principal might be going a little better this year? Not getting hopes up that things will be great or anything, just hoping to keep it on the right path for now. On my way home from work I stopped by my friend’s house and got to pet dachshund puppies. They were littler than I usually go play with. It was only their second time outside. Three were long haired and their little bodies were just so fluffy!

Saturday morning I went and had coffee/hung out with my dad and stepmom. Since my sister just got moved in this past week to her new house, she took the weekend to rest and work on unpacking and didn’t meet us. I came home after and did some blogging. Then had dinner with one of my friends.

First two were e-galleys for author review teams, and the reviews were posted this past week. Last was an audiobook that will be part of my L-L-L reviews for the August.

Audiobooks:

Bookish Stuff:

E-galleys:

Got the e-galley of this from the author’s review team and I’ll be posting my review on the 19th I think!

Free e-books:

I’ve read a couple by this author and loved them, so when she posted that she was making a bunch of the first books in her series available for free, I had to go get them. The last one is a prequel novella for Salty Pickle that the author made available to her Patreon members.

Physical books:

none

Always rewatching Outlander when I don’t feel like anything else, or want to be able to scroll on my phone while watching something. Wednesday night I went to see It Ends With Us based on the book by Colleen Hoover.

Friday night I was tired after a long week and with my mom and brother’s family out of town, and rushing through the last two e-galleys to get them read and reviews posted this week, I decided I wanted to actually put my phone down and my book down in the evening and just give my full attention to something on tv. I chose to watch the movie Damsel on Netflix that I’d wanted to watch since it first came out. I did enjoy it! Although sometimes it is hard to separate Millie Bobby Brown from her Stranger Things character for me.

Started the first one last week but didn’t get it finished as of when this post went up. Some of the books I’ve got coming up seem like they’d be perfect for Halloween/October. I’m hoping to get at least one BTB/TBR book done this week, but with being more back to school with all the teachers, who knows!

Don’t forget I added in a monthly wrap-up giveaway again this month because my read ARC pile was getting big again!

Also we’re now celebrating my 15th blogoversary for the rest of the month with a giveaway HERE.

This week all teachers come back on Tuesday. and now it’s really getting close to the students being back!

  1. That doesn’t sound like too bad of a week! I was surprised our weather turned up here. For August in St. Louis the temps we had were insane! It was actually really nice out! Yesterday I went to the zoo with my aunts, my cousin, and her kids. It was nice. I hadn’t been to the zoo in forever mainly because it’s always wayyyy too hot to go in the summer and if you go when its cooler the animals are likely not outside! Lol. We saw a good amount and I finally glimpsed our polar bear! Wish he had friend and kind of wished he’d been playing in the water, but oh well. The insurance mess with the tree company gives me a phantom headache, I hope things get worked out smoothly for you. That’s one thing I am not looking forward to in being a homeowner! But at this rate, I’d take it because I really really just want my own space! Hoping we get that turning point for buying this fall like they were predicting earlier! Those puppies are sooooo cute! I don’t think I’ve ever seen dachshund puppies before.

Nice new reads too! Lots of new to me ones! Haunted Ever After looks cute! I can’t wait to see your thoughts on that one! I love a good paranormal rom com! Although, usually I end up needing more ghost business than what’s given but it still looks like a fun read! Hope you enjoy them all!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

Yeah, it was a pretty good week, and I’m loving the cooler temps! The stuff with insurance and all the things that need work around the house, since I’m by myself, are the things that make me want to move into an apartment! lol But as long as I have these two dogs that love the yard, and that I can afford to stay here, I’ll be in a house.

Hoping the sub stays. She didn’t realize she was supposed to be there on teacher work days too, but all school staff is there on those days, except subs.

  2. Ugh! I’m sorry that you had to deal with the check being deposited/cashed before they said they would. I hope the stop payment helped and didn’t cause you too much grief with the balance in your account.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

In the end it all worked out and I didn’t get charged any extra fees, but the insurance is just being ridiculous on this too. Thanks for returning the visit!

  3. I hope all works out with the tree repairs and insurance! A bummer. Those puppies are too cute! I didn’t read that Coho book, but I’m thinking about watching the movie. Lots of controversy around it. Not surprised since CoHo’s books are so emotionally charged. I’ll be starting Haunted Ever After soon. Hope we both love it!

Looks like I’m looking at another couple weeks as well with insurance. It’s ridiculous how long this takes! I have seen the controversy with the book, and I wonder if those people finished the book. Lots of reviews online from people in the type of situation in the book, and they agree with my opinion that it is a story that helps you understand why/how people feel that makes them stay in those types of relationships, but in this case, she doesn’t, and that’s the title, It Ends With Us. Anyway, I don’t get the people who didn’t get that from the story. I was supposed to start Haunted Ever After today at lunch, but didn’t get time to read, so tonight at dinner!

Fingers crossed! I think I’m learning that things I took personally are just aspects of his personality that he does with everyone, so I have to step back from the personal feelings.

Thanks! It’s my back to school banner. I think the insurance has finally gotten that sorted out, so yay for that. But still have to figure out the fence I think.

  4. Sounds like a pretty good week, despite the continuing repair headaches. I want to scream on your behalf! Yea for the new hire, I recall you got on well with the sub, so hopefully she’ll be an asset to you and the library. I’m spending time getting ready to send my kiddos off to school and planning my big European trip for next month! I can’t believe I’ll be heading to Rome in just 4 weeks!!

    • Lisa Mandina

Finally got the money from the insurance today. However they didn’t really do anything for the fence, which I didn’t get an estimate, so maybe that’s why. Can’t wait to hear all about your European trip! That’s so cool!

I’m hoping I’ll like the Happy Planner discs once I get them for the planner I make myself. Although I feel like I’m having trouble with the pages coming off the discs. If not I may just do it in a three hole punch and make my own covers on that somehow.
