A fun sexy story, with a dash of suspense, about not hiding from yourself and letting love in. This steamy, laugh-out-loud, enemies to lovers romance pits an annoying prankster, turned small town cop, against the woman forced to live with him.
I’m finally back in Waterfall Canyon, after leaving for a decade, when one-night changes everything. I sort of snapped and beat up my stalker with yard debris. That creep didn’t know who he was messing with. Except, I was the one put in the patrol car.
Sometimes the worst mistake of your life calls for desperate measures—like accepting help from one of the cops that arrested you.
Beau Martin is a police officer, a slob, and also a man that’s promised to never settle down. He’s my best friend’s older brother. We had a history—of him tormenting me ten years ago. Now he leaves me flirty notes, wants me to believe he’s always liked me, and thinks we should blow off some steam.
Torn between Beau and an unrequited work crush, pursued by my increasingly creepy stalker, and fighting to save my career from the fallout of my mistake, I stumble into organizing a bachelor auction for charity. Everything depends on the support of our small town—and how much I can sacrifice for my own heart.
From award winning author Anna Alkire, comes an unforgettable new series that mixes the spice of Meghan Quinn’s A Not So Meet Cute, and the unexpected fun of Lucy Score’s Things We Never Got Over. Anyone looking for banter, cuteness, and a bit of suspense will find it in this steamy contemporary romance with a romantic comedy spin. Grab your copy of Hotheaded Heart today!
Author Interview
- What does your writing process look like? Do you know the whole story when you start? Or do you just start writing and go with it (seat of the pants writing)? If you plan it out, how do you do that? Outline, notecards, post-it-notes, etc.?
It begins with a cup of tea, or a big glass of yummy iced something with a straw. This ritual has felt very important. I draft in Scrivener, starting with research and plot sketches—which are brain storming lists at first then beat sheets. My character research is where the good stuff happens. Then, I have to force myself to stop researching and write. I like to sketch out scenes with a list of possible ideas, not committing to anything but pushing myself to keep going until I’m excited about something. Then I dive in and draft from start to finish. Definitely do not know the whole story when I start.
- Do you edit as you go, or wait till you’re finished before you edit? How many times would you say you go over it yourself before having another set of eyes look it over?
I edit a bit as I go. Leaving things for later begins to make the project too heavy for me so I prefer to tackle research and scenes as I come to them and get them to a working place. My beta reader sees it after I’ve workshopped the beginning with my writing group and self-edited the manuscript, after finishing the draft, about twice.
- Are you part of a writers group that gets together and helps each other with their writing?
Yes! Shout out to Emerald City Romance Writers! Also really appreciate a small local critique group I’m a part of with writer friends from my local area.
- How do you come up with your ideas for your stories?
Sitting down and brainstorming. Looking at tropes is always inspiring to me.
- How long have you been writing?
Winning a writing competition when I was a kit probably set me on this path! Have been serious about it for the last twenty years or so.
- What tips do you have for aspiring writers?
It isn’t easy to train your brain to write novels but you can do it. Push through those first couple of books and you’ll be on your way. Listening to audio books is a great way to experience language and get a new feel for storytelling.
- What are your favorite:
Books/authors/genres
Loving Charlaine Harris lately.
Romance for the win! I’m inspired by Colleen Hover.
Movies/TV Shows
Guilty pleasure? Reality dating shows. Justification? Wealth of fodder for this romance writer…
Music
Music: love it all. The Piano Guys when I’m writing.
Food/Writing snack
Writing snack: skinny dipped chocolate almonds, popcorn, decaf black tea with a splash of almond milk.
