Weekly Wrap-Up #147 – December 10th, 2023

Last Sunday was a chilly winter day. Spent a lot of it at home playing with the dogs including our house guest Khiona, until I had to get out of the house and do some blogging, so I went to the library. The Chiefs had a game at 7:20 pm, which is so late on a school night! I was pretty sure it was lost at 10 pm, so I went ahead and turned it off and went to bed. And I was sadly right.

Monday my clerk was back. It was a busy day, but it also went really fast! She did get the bulletin board behind our desks done, including having one of the art teachers doing a little snowman drawing for us!

I had a breakthrough with our house guest Khiona in that she was able to go outside without a leash! At first she kept staying right by my leg, and jumping up to try to get the leash from my hands. Once she realized she was free, she did some zoomies in the yard! It was so cute! When we were ready to go in, she did make me grab her by the collar, but she stayed close enough I could get her easily to pick up. I went to watch my niece for one of her dance class performances. When I got back Monday night Khiona wasn’t quite so cooperative and I ended up not getting much sleep.

So Tuesday morning was rough after a not so great night of sleep. It was also another chilly winter morning. Busy day at school again. Had my nephew’s 6th birthday party with family for dinner. Another not so great night of sleep, but ended up with all the dogs spending most of the night in their cages, not sleeping with me.

Wednesday was another quick but busy day at school. I stopped at Taco Bell on the way home to eat and read in peace without dogs. Skipped my niece’s second short dance recital just to stay home with the dogs to maybe wear them out to get better sleep. She had said if I only wanted to go to one, that the Monday night one was the one she suggested. All I could think all day is that I still had one more week with our houseguest.

Thursday was another day that went by pretty fast! I went up to talk to a couple classes that are working on creating “Book Club Boxes” and I am their “client”. So I gave them some advice on discussion questions, etc. Spent another night at home with the dogs, as this morning when I let them all come in to the bedroom about 3 am after I woke up and took them outside and gave them breakfast, Khiona actually laid down in bed and slept!

Friday was also busy, and it seems like the days have just flown by all week. They were busy getting set up and ready for a speech and debate tournament all day in the library for this weekend. We got a little sprinkles in the afternoon, and it did cool back off from the wonderful 64 degrees we had on Thursday. My new Fitbit, which I bought because the other one kept not syncing, didn’t sync the last few days, I found out when I went to see how my sleep had been. Ugh!

Saturday was a nice sleeping in morning. Then I went to another local craft fair at a school, and found a bookmark that I could use for another author group exchange I signed up for this year. The only thing is they don’t give any specific things about what kind of bookmark or the person giving any ideas, so I had to guess and found something cute. I also got some fun cookies and another ornament from a group I bought from on Small Business Saturday. And some cute earrings, the red sparkly trees are leather!

First was the audiobook I started last month and finally finished last Sunday, review will be with my December L-L-L post. The next 3 were e-galleys, one for an author review team, one for a blog tour review, and the last one from the publisher, the first two posted last week. The fourth one will be posted later closer to the pub date probably.

ARCs:

Won this ARC from a Goodreads giveaway. It comes out in March.

Audiobooks:

None

Bookish Stuff:

This month’s Patreon Picklegram from author JJ Knight was a really cute little ornament.

E-galleys:

None

Free E-books:

The first one was through Book Funnel. The next three were free on Amazon and sounded good.

Physical Books:

I “won” this one from Shooting Stars Mag auction raising money last month. We’ll see when I get around to it, but it came in such cute packaging!

FINALLY I got my special edition of Fourth Wing that I’d ordered back at the beginning of October. I still haven’t read it. Maybe I’ll get time over Christmas break from school? The second picture was my pick for Book of the Month. Which I’m thinking I really just need to cancel. But can’t quite do it since I’m able to opt out on months there is nothing I want.

And the Pickleverse Patreon Kickstarter special edition hardcover finally arrived! it is so cool! Between special vellum inserts and not only a reversible slip cover for the book, the actual book itself had images on it. I also got stickers added on, because I do love stickers these days!

Continuing with all the usual! Started season 2 of Good Omens, had some really funny parts to it!

Honestly at the moment this is the only book I have planned to post a review for this coming week. I might try to go ahead and get some other books read, possibly another e-galley I have, On the Plus Side. But I am hoping to get a Discussion post up, and I have a promo post scheduled as well.

I’ve pretty much got all my shopping done for Christmas, although I still need to get some wrapping done. It’s hard to do with my extra dog house guest. She should be going home on Thursday though, and while she’s a sweetie, I’m looking forward to having my house and my own two dogs and my more normal routine as much as possible. We have our school holiday party this coming Friday as well, including spirit week. Monday is PJ day, my favorite day of any spirit week!

  1. Sounds like a busy week! At least with those the work days go by quickly. Hopefully the weekend doesn’t fly by though That’s never fun! Lol. The ornament and earrings are super cute! And yay Fourth Wing! I did enjoy this one! I don’t think I got obsessed with it quite as much as everyone else seemed to. But definitely a fan!

Hope you enjoy all of your new reads!

    Here’s my StS

Yes, I’m so glad the week/days have been going by fast! Even though it is a break from my current houseguest, lol. Hoping that Fourth Wing doesn’t disappoint me like a lot of other big popular books I’m late to reading have done. We shall see! If I don’t like it, I’ll just donate it to my school library, lol.

  2. So glad that you finished your shopping list. I have barely touched mine, but I’ll probably do a lot of gift cards. The greatest thing this week was listening to xmas songs while doing swimming aerobics class.

I thought I was done, but realized I forgot a couple things today! Oops! Yay for xmas music, I’m definitely in the mood for it now!

Lucky! We have to go until the 20th. But the 20th is a half day, and I think we do finals that week, so mostly an easy week I think.

A week and a half till break! Right now I’m more ready for the normal household again, and that is less than a week!

  3. Love those tree earrings you picked up. I finally bought myself a pair of holiday themed earrings after thinking about it for YEARS! I’m not familiar with JJ Knight, but the books and packaging is super fun and cute!

I was dealing with some health issues last week, but got medicine on Tuesday and I’m doing a lot better now. I need to finish shopping – but I’m struggling with finding gift ideas.

    • Lisa Mandina

I rarely wear earrings, so I’m trying to wear them more often! JJ Knight is a hilarious rom-com writer. I think she also writes under Deanna Roy, which I think is her real name. Glad you’re doing better! Gift ideas are always so hard for the adults in my family too.

Yeah, I think I have all my shopping except for my dad’s gift, and he just wants a Lowe’s gift card, so that is easy! Hope you get some shopping done!

My neighbors now have both a Chiefs flag and a Steelers flag that they put outside for the games, guess he’s now sad for both? lol. Thanks for visiting!
