Last Sunday, my actual birthday, I spent it on airplanes coming back to Kansas City from the library conference in Tampa. My first flight took off about 45 minutes later than scheduled due to a mechanical issue they had to fix with the instruments. But once they got it fixed, I still had about an hour before my second flight left once I got to the next airport. Got home and then went to pick up my dogs, take them home, and watch another winning Chiefs game.
Monday was a busy day in some ways at work. I did decided to DNF the audiobook I was listening to on the way to work. It’s part of a series I love, but a little novella type of story with just the sexy scenes pretty much, and I’m just more in the mood for an actual story these days. Since I’d been out of town on Saturday, which was Argyle’s 11th birthday, we celebrated on Monday night with treats and toys. Although really neither was that excited about the toys, lol.
Tuesday was another steady day at school, but I was able to get online and get some of the handouts from the conference last week printed out. I know everything is digital these days, but I still like having an actual handout to look at. Went to the grocery store since I knew I wouldn’t have time Wednesday or Thursday because of conferences and I was out of things since I’d been gone last weekend. We got some lovely rain, it was such a wonderful rainy night to hang out at home!
Wednesday was a long day with our usual half day of school on Wednesday followed by parent conference time until 6:30 pm. Plus I have to call several students who graduated last year because they hadn’t filled out a survey the state makes us try to get all students to fill out about what they are doing 6 months after graduation. My stepmom came over to let the dogs out while I was at school all day. I was supposed to bake a dessert for a potluck on Thursday, but by the time I got home I was too tired to mess with it. It was a crazy rainy day too, some times it was majorly pouring. I loved it!
Thursday was such a long and boring day spending 12 hours at school. In high school you just don’t get that many parents. Plus I hate not being able to take care of my dogs. My stepmom and dad came and let them out and fed them for me, but by the time I get home around 8:30 pm, I’m just ready to get my pjs on and go to bed. Which is what I did. Although I did read for a bit.
Friday I got to sleep until 10 am! Although one of my dogs did keep waking me up every couple of hours, so not sure just how restful it was. I got my hair cut and colored, then spent most of the day just hanging out at home reading and catching up on TV. Oh, I joined Blue Sky Social this week too. I don’t have any invitations to share yet, but if you are on there, you can follow me then I’ll follow you back. My username is LisaLovesLit. I also got a Discussion Post done finally!
Saturday I chose to sleep in till about 9 am again. It is feeling very wintery now outside. Was pleased to find a Harry Potter marathon on TV to watch while I hung out around the house. Also tried to get laundry done during the “non-peak” hours according to my power company, now that they’re charging extra on bills for those things done between 4-8 pm. For a late lunch/early dinner, I went to my dad and stepmom’s house for my birthday dinner. Had tacos and cake. Forgot to take a picture of the cake.
Books Finished
First is an e-galley for a review earlier in the week. Second is the first book before an ARC I have to read. The review for this will probably be in my L-L-L post for October.
New Additions to My Library
ARCs:
None
Audiobooks:
Got both of these from the library on Libby. They are both possible Gateway titles. I started the second one this week.
Bookish Stuff:
I’d hoped to have this before I went out of town as the author did a Zoom with us Saturday night. But it was at my house when I got home Sunday. The bag has some of the gummies she made using the recipes on the cards you see there. Also got some more fun pickle stickers!
E-galleys:
The first one is from the author’s review team. Review will be first week of December I believe. The second one is for a blog tour towards the end of November.
Free E-books:
This was free on Amazon on Friday.
Physical books:
I pre-ordered the first one from a UK bookseller since it’s technically not being sold in the US yet. It came really fast! The second one I just finished the audiobook, but decided I wanted a physical copy and to try to get my mom to listen to it, as the situation with a family/friend having cancer really struck me right now with what we’re dealing with my dad. A good way to laugh and help with the stress it causes.
What I’m Watching
Enjoyed another Chiefs win on Sunday, my birthday last week. Worked on catching up on the recorded tv I’d missed watching while in Tampa. On the plane home from Tampa I got to finally watch a movie I’d been waiting to see, Love Again. I really enjoyed it, it had so many rom-com tropes and scenes. And Celine Dion was perfect!
I saw that the movie Five Nights At Freddy’s was available on Peacock so I went ahead and watched it. I worked at Showbiz Pizza Place in high school, which turned into Chuck E. Cheese before the end of the time I worked there in college. So the whole idea of this Freddy’s place made me want to watch it. The movie was okay. Nothing that great. I guess is it based off a video game or something?
Coming Up Next Week on My Blog
The first two are e-galleys. I already read the first one a week ago. I started the second one last week when I finished the book I had with me, but put it down to start the third one. The last three are ARCs. I started the third one on Friday. Hoping I get the last two both done in time for this week. Although the fifth one might not get finished till next week.
I’ll also have my end of the month wrap-up post, and maybe a promo post.
Giveaways
Don’t forget that I do now have the nice little box on the right hand sidebar so you can check out giveaways all the time!
My current monthly giveaway is HERE! Remember if I get over 100 entries in the monthly giveaway I add more winners, and so far this year I’ve had over 100 entries every month. And for September I had over 900 entries, so I picked 9 winners! Wow, I might have to adjust how many prizes I’m giving, and I’m switching to $5 Amazon GC instead of $10 for now since I’m giving so many away. It will end on Tuesday at midnight and then a new one will start.
I also started a Fall Seasons of Books Giveaway last month, so be sure to go enter that HERE. It runs till later this year.
Final Thoughts
Can you believe November starts this week? Do you have any plans for Halloween if you celebrate it? What are you looking forward to this week? How was last week for you?
I always get these crazy mushrooms in my yard every year at this time, there are a bunch this year! Have you ever seen these? I never had until I moved into this house 4 years ago.
Aww the dogs are so cute! And you are right-conferences for HS are pretty low turn out. Last time we had ours, I spent like 90 minutes shredding papers.
I didn’t get a ton of things done, but a little. Since I had to go work the table, and we had to make calls for last year’s graduates who hadn’t filled out a survey the state requires us to have them fill out.
Super love your blog header! That’s also a sweet doggie 🙂 Hope you’re having a spooky weekend!!
Thanks! I had it made last year, and I love it!
I can’t believe we may have a freeze this week. I totally understand when you say you want a story more than just sex scenes. I DNFd a book today because it started with a couple chapters of sex scenes before we knew the characters or they were developed a bit. I enjoy sex scenes but not without good character and world development and plot. It was the first book in the series. I can appreciate a novella catching up with characters one already knows being that way but not the first book.
I think we had freezes on Friday and Saturday. Today we had some snowflakes! But they didn’t stick since the ground is still too warm. I mean we had 80 degree days early on last week.
Every once on a while we will get a random cluster of mushrooms like that. We had a warm week but are expecting a dip on Tuesday. Sounds like a busy a d long work week. I had one too as I had to do a training one evening. I love the looks of Christmas Cupid and Snowdown looks good too. We watched Exorcism – Believer this week and I loved it. Have a great week!
I get those every fall. But it seems like a ton more this year!
Wow what a week!! I love those pickle stickers!! How do you like flying? I have only flown twice!!
Flying is not bad. I was worried when I went to Scotland this past summer that would be too long, but overall it wasn’t that bad other than not being able to really get comfortable when trying to sleep.
Do you have a blog? Every time I try to click on your name it goes to a page that says it is not found! I want to come reply to you as well!
Wow – those fungi in your garden are amazing! We don’t celebrate Halloween, these days. My grandson doesn’t like it, these days and gets a bit wound up if people keep knocking on the door – so we’ll pass again:). I hope you have a great week.
Ah, that’s too bad. I guess he isn’t big on dressing up then either? Well hopefully you can still just celebrate around the house a little!
Just checking if your blog is up and running? Every time I click on your name it says the site is under reconstruction. 🙁 I want to return your comments.

When I click the link it says it has been removed. So weird!
That does sound like a busy week! We finally got cooler temps here yesterday when some misty rain came rolling in. Still doing that now and I love the cloudy weather and staying in. Although I did run to one store and the grocery store for my mom, but then I started diving back into my book since I couldn’t read at all Friday which I normally do for the majority of the day!
Nice new reads! These are all new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
We got some snowflakes today, which I’m sure will be working their way towards your side of the state soon!
I used to hate those long work days and not being able to follow a schedule too Lisa so I sympathize. I hope you have a great week ahead with no long work days!
So far so good this week. Other than my clerk will be gone the second half of Friday.
Everybody seems to be going to Blue Sky. I have an invite code but just haven’t signed up yet. I’m glad a lot of us are going there. And oh my gosh I forgot about McManus’ new book. I need to get that. I was a huge fan of that series.
So far so food with that site. I just have to figure out more of what I want to say over there. I’ve only read one of her books and it wasn’t in the series, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy this one too.
Happy birthday to Argyle! Those mushrooms are crazy, just don’t let the dogs eat them. I hope you have a great week😁
Oh yeah, fortunately those mushrooms are in the part of the yard I rarely let them go into because of the little fence I have. In the past they’ve tried to grab pieces and run with them. So I don’t trust them. lol
Happy birthday! I hope you have a great year ahead. We had very unseasonable weather for three days last week – near 80 and sunny. Now it’s back to normal and we will get our first frost tonight or tomorrow. I found you on Bluesky. I hope you enjoy the platform.
Yeah, we had those 80 degree days before it got rainy and now cold. Yay, glad you found me on Bluesky. I need to get on there more. Trying to check it daily to get into the habit.
Whoa, those mushrooms are truly crazy!!
I know! The first time I saw them I was a little freaked out.
