Weekly Wrap-Up #113 – April 2nd, 2023

Posted April 2, 2023 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 26 Comments

As usual I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

And now it’s April! And it’s the second, so that’s no April Fool’s joke! It also means my spring break is over and I’m back to school tomorrow.

Last Sunday I enjoyed a lazy day around the house. My stepdad came over and measured in my garage so we can take out the old work bench that was there when I moved in. We’re going to put in some usable shelves for me since I just need it for storage. He even walked by my new car since I had to pull it out of the garage, but he didn’t notice it was a new one. I mean it is pretty close to my last car. lol Unfortunately he has lost the info to get into my storage place that I gave to him and my mom since they were using it more, so I’ll have to run up there one day this week and see if the place can give me my code, and we might have lost the keys too, so that should be fun as well.

Monday, after enjoying not having to get up with an alarm, my mom and I went and saw a movie. Then I had to take the title for my old car plus the other key fob back to the dealer where I bought my new car I think I’m going to wait and see how long it takes before someone notices I have a different car, lol. It was a beautiful day outside and I got to sit outside and enjoy it with the dogs for a bit.

Tuesday I did some blog hopping and commenting, and then went to see a movie and did some other errands. I finally found the Dr. Pepper Peeps. They’ll probably be gross, but as Dr. Pepper is my favorite soda, and about all I drink these days if I’m having soda, I had to try it.

Wednesday my stepdad and I planned to go in and pull out the old work bench that was in my garage when I moved in about 4 years ago and just put shelves in that would be more useful and not take up as much space. We’d planned to start at 9 am but the temps were still pretty cool, so we waited till noon when it would be in the 50s. It took us about 3 hours to get it all out and then go pick up the shelves from the storage unit. My stepdad wants to come back and fill in some holes in the wall that he thinks mice come in, and then bolt the shelves together. So it’s not complete yet. I forgot to take before and after pictures. I was supposed to go see an early screening of the new Dungeons and Dragons movie, but was just pretty tired by the end of the day, so I canceled my reservation and stayed home and watched Survivor. Plus I needed to finish reading the book that had a review due on Thursday.

Now I woke up at about 1 am Thursday morning with a horrible pain in the bottom of my foot. No idea what it was, but of course I googled all night when I couldn’t get back to sleep. I’d finally sleep for an hour and a half and then the pain would wake me back up. Later on Thursday I went and picked up one of my friend’s puppies to let her have a break as she had another pregnant momma dachshund and he is still waiting for his people to come get him to go to his forever home. His name is Inktomi, and I call him Inky for short. He’s a sweetie, but puppies are hard. I wasn’t able to sit at the desk and do the blogging I needed really while he was there. Plus he wanted to play with my other two, and while Argyle did, Dora did not want to. Here’s a pic of the three of them sitting outside, it was a wonderful nice day to have him there so the dogs could play outside, also one of him playing with Argyle, and a picture when he was finally tuckered out for a little bit.

Friday we woke up and hung out on the lounge chair in the office. I still had issues trying to get on my laptop. Considered going to the library for a bit to see if I could get a break from puppies, but the two boys did play with each other for a while so I could do some blogging. Did go to lunch with my mom and stepdad. Sitting on the lounge chair, Inktomi liked to lay right above my head on the back of the chair and rest his head on my shoulder as you can see in the picture below. He also wasn’t quite sure when Argyle would go over and bark at the fence with the neighbors’ dogs, and he’d come sit right by my feet and watch him, which is the other picture.

Saturday was the day he was going back to the breeder. She’d needed a break while she had another dog having puppies and then someone coming to Missouri from California to pick up one puppy, who ended up taking two puppies home! While it will be nice to not have three dogs, one a puppy, to deal with, I did get a little sad taking him back. But he should be going to his forever home on Monday or Tuesday. Here is a picture of me sitting in the car with him waiting to meet my friend’s mom who had dropped the person who bought the puppy at the airport which is by my house. He was such a good boy! No accidents in the house, slept in his crate in the bedroom with us so nicely.

Saturday night I went to my brother’s house for dinner with his family and my mom and stepdad. He took the dog outside and came back in and he had noticed I had a new car, lol.

Books Finished

First was an e-galley for a blog tour review this past week. The second one I got a copy of the book from the author to read and review this week! Last one was an audiobook that is also on the Gateway list. I finished it slowly over the week since I wasn’t driving to and from work every day, so only when I was in the car.

New Additions to My Library

ARCs:

None

Audiobooks:

None

Bookish stuff:

None

E-galleys:

None

Free E-books:

Actually got this first one Saturday, but with the busy day getting my new car I forgot to add it to my post last week. The first two were free on Amazon. The last one was for signing up for the author’s newsletter.

Physical books:

I was so excited when the author said this was coming out that I went ahead and pre-ordered it and it arrived on Monday. I’m trying not to buy more books, of course, but knew I’d have to own this one!

What I’m Watching

My goal was to get 5 movies watched this week by using up 2 tickets I hadn’t used the week before, but I didn’t get that. So then I set the goal of seeing 3 and using up all my weekly AMC A-List tickets. Sunday night I watched a movie and learned a new term: phrogging.

Then on Monday I went and saw a movie with my mom, but not using my AMC A-List because she likes another theater in town better. I thought Cocaine Bear was at least an entertaining movie. A little more violent than I guess I expected, although not sure why I thought it would be any different.

Tuesday I finally went to see the latest in the Scream series.

Thursday the Passionflix adaptation of Amy Daws’s Wait With Me was out and I watched the first half of it before going to bed because I was tired. You can read my review of the book HERE.

Coming Up Next Week On My Blog

First is an e-galley that should be part of a review on Tuesday. The other three are ARCs and the reviews should be spread out throughout the week.

I’ll be back to school this week. So hope I can actually get what I need read! But I don’t have a lot of other scheduled reviews next week, so that will be good!

Giveaways

Don’t forget that I do now have the nice little box on the right hand sidebar so you can check out giveaways all the time! My new monthly giveaway started this past week and it is HERE. Remember if I get over 100 entries in that monthly giveaway I add more winners, and last month I had 120, so that was two winners.

Scotland Tour Tidbits

The next stop is Drummond Castle Gardens, which stood in as the gardens of Versailles for Outlander. First is a picture of the castle and some of the gardens, with a picture of a scene from the season of the show when they were in France.

Final Thoughts

How was your week? Did you read or watch anything good? Get any good books? Did anyone try to pull any April Fool’s Day jokes on you yesterday?

Enjoy this picture of Dora sitting up and staring at the rest of us as we were just sitting on the couch.

  1. Sounds like you had a pretty nice spring break, with the exception of your foot pain! Yikes! I always freak out when something weird like that happens to me! Hope you’re more on the mend now! I’m not much of a Peeps person, but I found myself somewhat curious about those Dr. Pepper Peeps. Haven’t bought them though, as again, not really a fan of Peeps! Lol. I always enjoyed the Dr. Pepper Jelly Bellies Jelly Beans too, so I feel like they wouldn’t be too bad…but since I’m not a fan of marshmallows and such, I don’t know if I’d actually like them! Lol. It was a long debate at the stores more than a few times!

Nice new reads! Those are some new to me ones but I hope you enjoy all of your newly acquired reads! Hope your Monday goes smoothly too, since it’s always hard to get back into the groove after being off for a week!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

The peeps ended up not being a very strong Dr. Pepper taste, but not a bad one either. I can’t remember which of the flavors I was looking forward to and then tried it and did not like it, but these were not bad. Fingers crossed this week goes easily!

    • Lisa Mandina

Well, to be fair, it was mostly just my 75 year old stepdad who had seen it up close, and he is getting a bit forgetful, lol. Yeah, it was fun for a bit with the puppy, but it’s nice just having my two again. I do love that you rescue older dogs! But I don’t know if I could do that either. I still cry every time I think about my last dog when I had to put her to sleep when she was older. You are stronger than me! I tell the two I have they have to stay with me forever! lol

  2. Puppies must be so fun but I hear ya when you say you wanted a break. I have been considering fostering a cat so my son can see what its like but we will see…

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, it was fun, and I’m a little sad, missing a few things about him, mostly sad because I want him to have a happy home. But he should be going Monday or Tuesday! Fostering is probably a good way to get an idea what it will be like.

    • Lisa Mandina

To be fair, my 75 year old stepdad is the only one who saw it up close till Saturday, lol. Yeah, I’m looking forward to being back to work a little bit just for the audiobook time, lol. The last Scream movie was different having it be in the big city for sure!

  3. The puppy looks so cute – but there’s no doubt, they are seriously hard work. Like babies:)). Still, good for you looking after him for your friend. Sorry about your foot and I hope it soon feels better – foot pain is always miserable as it generally plays up as soon as you put any weight on it. Have a good week, Lisa.

He was a little older, so in a lot of ways not as bad as a puppy that has first come home. He’d actually had a home but they decided they couldn’t handle a puppy, so my breeder friend took him back. My foot seems to be better now. So now I don’t know if I was overly stressed and scaring myself by googling in the middle of the night, lol. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. It sounds like a good week and some time with family. I’m not sure I would have chosen to spend spring break with a puppy, although it went well. The last time I went to a movie in a theater was the week before the initial COVID lockdowns. It was daytime and the theater was nearly empty. I’m pretty sure it was The Gentlemen with Charlie Hunnam. Well there isn’t too much of the school year left now. So funny how long it took for anyone to notice about the car!

    • Lisa Mandina

It was nice for a while when the theaters reopened after the Covid lockdown went away and they would not sell the seats right around a seat that was purchased. I just like my space in the theater any time! lol. Yeah, I knew I wasn’t going anywhere and my friend needed a bit of a break, so the puppy was fun. Also a good reminder that I don’t need another and should just enjoy going to play with them at her house instead of wanting one, lol. I like that our spring break is so late because it makes the last part of the school year go by a little quicker.

    • Lisa Mandina

Lol. I know most people don’t like Peeps. And really I usually just like the first few, because then they get kind of stale unless you put them in a ziploc and I don’t eat more than one at a time. Yep, only two more months of school! Although I am doing summer school to get more money for my Scotland trip, so I will only have July off this year.

  5. haha that aprils fools thing was hilarious. Honestly I hibernate on the 1st of April, I have NEVER understood April fools. Probably created my some medieval jokester getting his jollies off. I hope you are enjoying that trailer of Wait with Me. I really have enjoyed how they do adaptations, love that they stick with the book and the authors are so involved in the creation process.

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, I’m not a big fan of the pranks. I loved Wait With Me! I think I like the rom-coms Passionflix has done better than some of the more dramatic ones. Sometimes I think the dramas get a little over-acted.

  6. That’s funny about your car! And I hope Inktomi gets a fabulous forever home. He looks adorable.

I’ve been thinking of trying Scream. I’ve never seen them!

He should be going home either today or tomorrow. He was such a sweetie! But I’m happy to be puppy free again, and just my two older dogs. I love the Scream movies! Or the first couple, and then the last couple. The 3rd or maybe 4th were not my favorites. Fun fact, I named my first dog I got on my own as an adult after the main character.

  7. Yea for Spring Break! Good luck tomorrow as you head back in. I would like to see D&D, but will probably wait until it’s streaming.

My week was pretty quiet. I struggle reading a book all week, and then Saturday, when I had a lot of time, I decided to DNF it. I just couldn’t get into it. I’ve already read 4 chapters in the next book, so I don’t feel that bad about DNFing.

    • Lisa Mandina

I think the reviews of D&D were good. So I might go next weekend, I do have Friday off, so maybe I’ll go then. Ugh, I hate when I struggle like that. But I have set a limit of trying 3 times to get into a book before I give up, but then I just am okay with moving on. Too many books out there still to be read, am I right? 🙂

  8. What a busy week of vacation you had! I’m so sorry to hear about your foot – I hope it feels better now. Please update if people are noticing your new car! Have a great week.

    • Lisa Mandina

My foot seems all better now. It was so weird! I ended up telling people at work that I got a new car. My mom and stepdad now noticed when they went out to the driveway at my brother’s this weekend. lol

    • Lisa Mandina

I can’t wait for the trip, although it seems like it is forever away, I know it is getting closer and I have to pay for the tour soon!
