Weekly Wrap-Up #97 – December 11th, 2022

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

We are getting the cold weather finally. With a warm day mixed in here and there. Feels like winter finally I guess.

Sunday was another Chiefs game. They played the team that beat us and messed up the AFC championship for us last year. Breaking the streak we’d had of winning the last 5 years in a row. So this was kind of a grudge match for us. And unfortunately we lost to them. It was a sad Sunday night. But I guess our quarterback, Patrick Mahomes did just welcome his second child this past week, so maybe he was tired from being kept up by the new baby, lol.

Monday was a quiet day at school again, except for a fight that happened right after school outside by the buses. I was able to finish up my Christmas/holiday book display. Then I started working on getting things ready for when we genrefy the library like I want. My niece’s dance studio decided to do what they did last year instead of having a winter recital and just have short little half hour “shows” where certain groups do their dances, but with no costumes or anything. So there was one Monday, one Tuesday, and one Thursday since my niece is in 3 classes.

Tuesday night I went to see my niece’s second dance, this one was her jazz/funk class. Here is a picture of them as they posed for pictures after each group was done. She is the one in the middle of the back row!

Wednesday was quiet at work for the most part, except for an almost fight in the library during the advisory time. Also it was our early release day, so every week on Wednesday the students get to go home about an hour and a half early and the teachers stay for meetings. This week Student Council had a party in the library. It was loud when they decided to karaoke and of course because they’re teens.

Came into the library Thursday morning to see a ton of food crumbs and popcorn, trash, etc., still on the floor. The student council sponsor had the kids come back during their leadership class to vacuum and clean off the tables. It was also gloomy all day, and while it was actually about 10-15 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year, it just felt like a perfect day to be home reading, which I wasn’t.

Friday you’d think it would be a nice calm, quiet day in the library since it was supposed to be closed so they could get set up for the debate tournament our school was hosting Friday and Saturday, but nope. They also scheduled the senior cap and gown picture retakes in the library for the morning, and it was just kids in and out all day. In the evening we did my nephew’s 5th birthday part. He likes penguins, so there was a penguin theme.

Saturday was another cloudy gloomy day. But the temp was close to 50, so I was able to leave the coat in the car when I did some shopping at a local school. Actually it was the school where I did my student teaching back in 1995. Boy did it look so different! I bought fudge, and some cute earrings and some KC Chiefs stickers! Oh,and I got another box of books from a publisher for the library committee I’m on.

Books finished:

First was a hardback copy I won from Bookish First back before it came out. But I didn’t get the copy till right before it was published which makes it hard for me to fit it into my blog schedule. But I did enjoy this! Second was a paperback I bought because a friend of mine mentioned this is a friend of hers, and the author will be at the Flirty in Kansas City convention in February. So I got it to read. It was a quick, short, fun read. The last book was for a blog tour review yesterday.

New Additions to My Library:

ARCs:

Friday night I came home from my nephew’s birthday party to find a box of ARCs from Sourcebooks, so that was exciting!

Audiobooks:

Both are for audiobook blog tours. I should have them listened to and reviewed by mid-January.

Bookish Stuff:

I got these stickers and shirt from the same place. I might soon own nothing but book t-shirts. Lol. These came from HERE.

E-galleys:

Even though I didn’t get selected as a Berkley rep as I’d hoped, I did get approved for an e-galley of The Love Wager by Lynn Painter on Netgalley. I’ve loved all her books so far! And then Friday night I got Drama King to try to read for this week!

Free E-books:

The first 7 were free on Amazon. The last 3 were from an author’s newsletter.

Physical Books:

All of these pictures were from publishers for possible consideration for the library committee I’m on.

This was my December Book of the Month pick. Maybe I can get it read this holiday season? We’ll see!

What I’m Watching:

The season finale for The Amazing Race was this week, I was pleased with the winners, they did a great job! I ended up renewing my Disney Plus subscription just so I could watch the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special. It was fun. Although some of the effects were kind of lame, like Groot was a really bad costume, and Drax’s makeup wasn’t great. But otherwise it was fun!

Coming Up Next Week on My Blog:

First is for a blog tour, I think I post my review on the 13th, pub day, but it might be the tour post for another week. Other than this I have no review tours scheduled. So that is nice. I hope to read a bunch of books that aren’t on scheduled tours and maybe more holiday books as well as the ones for the Gateway committee. I do have some promo posts lined up for this week though. I’m reading the second one since I won it from Bookish First, and now I am reading it, so should be able to post a review just for it this week.

Giveaways:

Don’t forget that I do now have the nice little box on the right hand sidebar so you can check out giveaways all the time!

Final Thoughts:

How was your week? Did you read or watch anything good? Get any good books? Have anything exciting coming up this week? Are you reading any holiday books? This week’s dog picture is one of my Dora from a few years ago. She was sitting up and begging me for food at the table of course!

  1. Sounds like a decent week. I kind of wish we had colder temps by now but I might be alone in that. The mix in weather plays havoc with my body, hoping my flu shot can keep me healthy with that despite catching whatever my niece and nephew had!

Wow! So many new reads this week! There’s a lot of new to me ones here but some I recognize too! Hope you end up enjoying each and every one of your new reads!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

I am actually ready for it to just be cold all the time instead of the up and down temps, so I agree about that! Thanks for stopping by!

    • Lisa Mandina

I did really enjoy it! Other than like I said some of the costumes/effects being a little too cheap looking. Yeah, we’ve got a week and two days left. And our finals aren’t until after break.

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, I don’t think my review for Drama King is actually due till the 20th, but I’m going to go ahead and read it now. 🙂 I wish my dogs wouldn’t beg for food! Argyle doesn’t sit up like that. But Dora will sometimes!

    • Lisa Mandina

I love Lynn Painter, so I was excited to get approved. Thanks, I’m loving the fun graphics I had made! Thanks for stopping by!

Oh I get that not everyone loves my Chiefs, but Mahomes is such a hard guy not to like even if you don’t like the Chiefs. 🙂 I think he is going to be similar to Tom Brady in his game playing greatness! My nephew loves penguins, it’s so cute. Thanks for visiting!

  2. Is that the Bengals? I used to watch football all the time but I’ve been slacking lately. I heard someone on the radio though talking about the Bengals having the Chiefs’ number twice in a row or something. that’s a bummer.

Funny that there are still fights- I guess some things never change. I mean I don’t know why there wouldn’t be, it just seems like that’s so old fashioned or something I guess ha ha.

Yeah, it was the Bengals that beat us. 🙁 They’ve beat us 3 times this year. Ruined our chances at going on in the playoffs back in January, beat us earlier this year, and then this past week they ruined our number one seed in the playoffs for this year. Yeah, I can’t believe how many fights there are. It’s crazy! Thanks for visiting!

  3. You know what always used to amaze me were fights first thing in the morning. If one of the students was sent to me for counseling I would just be like, “How? I haven’t even had my coffee yet. How can you possibly be awake enough to fight?” 🤣🤣🤣. Hope you have a wonderful week!

    • Lisa Mandina

Oh my gosh, I never thought of it that way, but yeah, we had one beginning of the day! Thanks for stopping by!

    • Lisa Mandina

Well, we don’t get used a lot for reading, or studying. Although I do have more kids this year checking out books. Already getting some regulars now! Yeah, rain all week would get old, especially knowing my dogs would be a pain about going outside to do their business. Thanks for visiting!

    • Lisa Mandina

Yes! Was so happy they won, although for a while it looked like they’d quit playing and were going to let the Broncos come back. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I love the penguins!! So cute. They used to be my son’s favorites when he was young. I also love the bookish stuff. I recently bought some books stickers myself and I love to use them in my planners! Have an incredible week!

    • Lisa Mandina

I don’t really use the stickers in my planners, more like for decorating. But then I get weird about it because I’ll have a new planner every year and then the old stickers will be gone, lol. Thanks for visiting!

  5. It’s pouring rain here, which I am loving. I am sure those out on the road aren’t so much. I just hope the rain stays awhile since we so desperately need it. I bet your holiday book display turned out really nice. 🙂 I am glad the kids were made to come back and clean up their mess. I bet that was aggravating to walk into find.

I love the penguin theme for your nephews’s birthday. So cute! My husband really likes penguins. He probably wishes no one knew that for the amount of penguin stuff he gets as gifts. LOL

Looks like you have some good reading ahead of you. I’m interested in reading Love Wager too.

We loved the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special. It was a lot of fun to watch.

I hope you have a great week, Lisa!

I’d be one of those people who always gets someone something once I know they like it, lol. We are getting some rain tonight I think, I’m looking forward to it! Thanks for stopping by!

    • Lisa Mandina

My Thanksgiving break I got so much reading done, I’m hoping for the same over Christmas break. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Love the picture of Dora! How could you resist giving her a bite? The earrings are so cute and Christmas-y without being over the top. It’s been a strange year for football all over I think. I live in SEC territory and while the team I root for seems to be in a rebuilding decade (War Eagle! Though maybe the eagle could recruit a quarter back) it’s all college ball here and it has been upset after upset. Have a great week!

    • Lisa Mandina

Oh, she does always get a bite it seems. She is too cute. I’m not a big sports fan, although I’ve really been supporting my Chiefs for a long time. My brother is into the college sports more. Thanks for stopping by!

    • Lisa Mandina

Wow! I’m kind of jealous of the snow. We had rain last night and this morning. But then sun and 50 degree temps this afternoon! Crazy Missouri weather. Thanks for stopping by!

    • Lisa Mandina

My guess is there is less supervision or more crowding maybe by the buses? Who knows! Thanks, I think she’s pretty cute, lol.
