Weekly Wrap-Up #96 – December 4th, 2022

Posted December 4, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 28 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

Can you believe we are already in the last month of 2022? I don’t know whether I’m happy or sad for another year gone. But I’m ready for my next holiday break from school in two and a half weeks, lol.

Sunday was of course another Chiefs game, another win! It made our quarterback have a record of 25 games played in Novembers in his career and all of them won if he started. And I spent a bunch of time blogging. I did not “win” NaNoWriMo this year, even though I did order a winner’s shirt. Oops.

Monday was back to school. Blah. But having all my books on the shelf meant I wasn’t worried about a lot of heavy moving/lifting. So that was nice! Took my two desks I replaced with the one big one I have now and donated them at the local thrift store.

Tuesday the new superintendent in the school district where I am a librarian did an open session/meeting with a large group of our students in the library. She told them about herself and then let them ask questions. The temperatures went from in the 50s in the morning, to in the 30s on my way home from school!

Wednesday was cold!!! The day went by fast, it was an early release as usual. I had a Zoom meeting with the other secondary librarians in the district in the afternoon.

Thursday was kind of slow again. But believe me, I’m so happy to have those kind of days for a change. The weather changed and warmed up into the 50s by the time I got home.

Friday was also a slow day in the library. I took down my Native American Heritage Month display and started working on my holiday book display. And it warmed up even more, up into the 60s. Of course the wind was crazy too, they said some gusts up to almost 50 mph! So that kept it from feeling like a really warmer day.

Saturday my mom and I went out Christmas shopping for the family we adopted through a program my district has for the students. We did a lot of shopping! When I got home in the afternoon I had a huge delivery from another publisher for the library committee I am on. I thought we were done, but nope! I got three more boxes of books! There were 64 books in the three boxes. Now I’d say there were probably at least 10 that won’t be considered, because some were nonfiction, and then there were some graphic novels and so far I don’t think those work for the award committee that I’m on, they’re for a different award. Plus some of the authors don’t live in the US, and we only do US authors.

Books Finished

The first one was for a blog tour on Thursday. The second one was for an author’s request review which I’ll be posting on Monday. The last was an audiobook, one of the books on the current Gateway Reader list, and I’ll probably post it’s review with my now monthly L-L-L Little Review post later in December.

New Additions to My Library

ARCs:

None

Audiobooks:

So, I used my monthly Audible credit for this one. I want to read this series, but the first one is about a married couple and as someone who has never been married, I have trouble reading those. But I’m going to give it a try I think! Next year probably when I have time to listen to it. lol

Bookish Stuff:

Every year Meghan Quinn does blackout special edition hardcovers of a few of her books. This was one of her books I don’t have yet, and actually was the first one of hers that I ever read when it came out as part of a blog tour. I also saw a picture of her wearing this shirt at a book signing recently and then was excited to see it for sale on her website HERE.

E-galleys:

None

Free E-books:

The first 9 were free on Amazon. The next three were for signing up for an author newsletter, and actually Hoax for the Holidays has been renamed as His for the Holidays and has a new cover, but I like the old one better. The last two I bought for 99 cents each I think, because the authors are going to be at a signing in February in KC and they sounded cute. A couple of the freebies are also authors that will be at that signing. I’m going through the names and seeing if they have any free books I can get. Of course who knows if I’ll read them before then.

Physical Books:

Now they did send me an ARC of the first one, so it was awesome to get a finished copy too. The finished copy will go to my school library though! Second was a deal that Sarina Bowen was having for some redone covers as well as the cool Romance Reader Journal. It has some of the same pages for coloring in your reads that my planner does, so I’m excited to use it! There were also some stickers and an autographed card in the box. I haven’t read this book though, so it will be on my TBR shelf now.

And of course all the books I talked about up above, not that I’ll ever be able to read them all!

What I’m Watching

Really getting into this season of Survivor and The Amazing Race. I started watching 1899 too.

I had trouble getting back into 1899 on Monday night, so I tried another show which was okay. The Midnight Club, which the doctor is played by the actress who played Nancy in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.

And, don’t laugh at me, but I finally watched the new Beavis and Butthead Do the Universe movie. That tv show was on when I was in college and we had some friends that we called Beavis and Butthead. I actually dated the one we called Beavis. But I did start giggling pretty quickly and had to text my friend who also likes that show.

Coming Up Next Week on My Blog

Both of these are e-galleys, the first for an author requested review on Monday and the second one for a blog tour on Saturday.

I’ve got a bunch of blitzes this week that I signed up for in my quest to stop signing up for a bunch of extra reviews.

Giveaways

Don’t forget that I do now have the nice little box on the right hand sidebar so you can check out giveaways all the time!

Final Thoughts

How was your week? Did you read or watch anything good? Get any good books? Have anything exciting coming up this week? Are you reading any holiday books? Here’s a picture of my two guarding again as I blog. This time though, Dora decided to rest her head on Argyle’s back and let him do all the work. Poor little girl has had to have so many teeth pulled that her little tongue hangs out on one side of her mouth a lot.

  1. Sounds like a decent week all in all. I was sick all week myself with a terrible cough. My niece and nephew were sick too and I am positive that I caught the crud from them since I was around them over the holiday. And of course my flu shot did not prevent this cold from taking over. Ugh. I feel fine for the most part but then all of a sudden I will start hacking up a lung for a few minutes. Then it’s back to normal for an unknown amount of time. I’m hoping it’s on its way out because I am done with it!

Nice new reads! It’s nice to see publishers helping school libraries out with things! Hope you enjoy all of your new reads!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

Ugh! The sickness is going around. And yeah, I’m sure the little ones keep passing it along as they get it at school and then pass it back to others at school. The books I got were because I’m on a library committee for my state to help pick the ones for the future reader awards that student vote on. These books will be the possible nominees for the school year 24-25. A few of these copies might stay on my own shelf at home. But the rest will all be donated to my own high school if we don’t have them, or to other schools in my district if I’ve already got them. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I had to read that twice to undeststand the college friend was someone you named Beavis and dated. I love to bring up Beavis and Butthead in improv scenes or mention how a character has that some breathy laugh.

    • Lisa Mandina

LOL! Yeah, there were two guys that some of my sorority friends hung out with in one of the fraternities on campus and they nicknamed the two guys. I just happened to meet and date the one they called Beavis. It’s like their laughter gets me started laughing just because I know they’re laughing at something stupid.

Yeah, one of my dogs would go out and then get all freaked out by the wind and look at me like I was crazy for bringing him outside. yeah the journal was with the order from Sarina Bowen, I don’t know if it is available on just her website or any other places.

  3. Cute doggies!

What a haul! 64 books at once would overwhelm me though.

My husband is a Dolphins fan. I haven’t decided yet whether his quiet despair in their terrible seasons was better than this year’s very loud armchair quarterbacking 😀

    Enjoy your week!

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, I know I won’t read them all, some don’t qualify and others I just know I wouldn’t read anyway. My Chiefs did not win last night, so it was a rough night for us too. Thanks for visiting!

  4. The weather has been like that here too. It’ll get in the 50’s with the sun out and then the temp drops just a few hours later. Ugh.

    Love that Quinn cover

I started 1899 but got bored- never finished the first one. I still want to maybe give it a try though- how far did you get? I heard Midnight got canceled already, so only one season. Why do they do that? It’s so hard to get excited about a show when they do that.

    Love the dogs!

Yeah, I got bored on the second episode of 1899, don’t know that I’ll go on. Aw, too bad about Midnight Club, I’m just getting into it! Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Dora has the right idea! Haha! I hope you have a good week this week. I had a couple of slower days at work this week too which was a nice surprise . I hope it will be the same next week, but I won’t hold my breath. Have a great week!

    • Lisa Mandina

It’s nice at the moment to be able to do some library stuff instead of computer stuff or just still unpacking. But I know it won’t last! And that’s okay, just two more weeks and two days til Christmas break for me! Thanks for stopping by!

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, and I am supposed to have them read by the end of January? Probably not happening. We’ll see. I wasn’t as obsessed with Beavis and Butthead when they came out, but later on I got to enjoy them a bit. Thanks for visiting!

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, a lot of books! Especially this late in the year! I might be giving up on 1899 as I didn’t get far in the 2nd episode before I got a little bored. We’ll see. Thanks for stopping by!

    • Lisa Mandina

Oh, last night was such a sad game! I can’t believe we lost to the Bengals again! 🙁 Thanks for visiting!

  6. Sounds like a good week even with all the craziness of the weather. And definitely a lot of good books! What great deals you found. Hope your having another good week!
