Weekly Wrap-Up #95 – November 27th, 2022

Posted November 27, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 22 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

Well Thanksgiving week is over, and now it’s the countdown to Christmas break for me! And since it’s time to start decorating for the holidays, I went ahead and put up my new Christmas banner that Michelle at Limabean Designs once again blew out of the park with her idea!

Sunday was another nail biting Chiefs game. But we won in the last minute of the game, so yay for my team!

Monday was the first day of my break. I slept in till about 8 am when one of my dogs decided I need to get up. Did some rearranging of furniture to get ready for the Christmas tree. I think I want to get rid of the exercise bike I got since I haven’t used it. Partly because it won’t adjust for leg length. I mean it will, but then it won’t stay. When I paid to have them put it together for me, they didn’t do something. And when I called back right after it was going to cost more money to have someone come out to look at it. My brother says they should come for free. But we’ll see. I also decorated my tree. I think I’m just doing the basic ornaments this year because I’m lazy. But it still looks good I think!

I was checking out the local theater to see what was playing. I do want to see Wakanda, but also so that I’d missed a scary movie, Prey for the Devil. It was only showing at 9:40 pm Monday night, but I decided to go. Should have taken a nap in the afternoon, but my dogs don’t let me do that very much. I started out thinking I’d be the only one in the theater, and it would be really spooky. But then a family of 4 came in and sat in the row behind me, and giggled throughout the whole movie as well as whispering and talking. It was annoying. The movie wasn’t one of the cringey ones that aren’t scary, I thought it had some real scary bits, but it was hard to know for sure with those people behind me.

Tuesday I enjoyed sleeping in. Since I didn’t get home till almost midnight, my dogs actually let me sleep a full 5 hours before I woke up and then I got them up and went outside and then gave them their breakfast. It was a nice change from their usual 1 am wake up. Then I had dinner with a friend I used to teach with at Applebee’s so we could catch up and I could try one of their yummy sounding holiday adult beverages. Unfortunately for me, after having a sip or two of the yummy drink, I think I’m pretty sure that I’m either allergic to alcohol or alcohol intolerant. You know how people say their face heats up when they drink? Well within minutes of a sip, my face gets all red, really red. My friend even noticed. But when I quit drinking after those two sips, it went away. There was vodka in the drink, and lemon sour. It wasn’t the drink I wanted to try, because their blender was broken. So I’m probably going to try that other one which has rum in it, and see if that causes the issue to. I’ve noticed it in the past, but I don’t drink much, no beer, not wine, nothing except the fru-fru drinks sometimes.

Wednesday was mostly a day around the house. I did take the dogs to the pet store where they get their nails trimmed, and ate at the new Dairy Queen by my house. But otherwise I hung out around the house and watched tv and read.

Thursday I woke up to very unseasonably warm weather. It was so nice outside and sunny! My family was going to have 20 people this year at my brother’s house for the first time. Hoping to start the new tradition of them having it. Although my mom did go over and help my sister-in-law and brother get dinner going as she has always been the one to do it in the past. We did things a little different. Had a competition with trivia and then a Mario Kart competition. We got assigned teams and names for the teams. My partner was my cousin and we were called the Sassy Singles as pretty much the only two adults there that weren’t dating or married. We only came in tied for 2nd/3rd in the trivia contest, but my cousin won the Mario Kart competition. We also took a family photo which we haven’t had one in years.

Friday I was going to do the outdoor decorating, but then decided to go see the new Wakanda movie and just relax instead. I also binged several more episodes of One of Us is Lying.

Saturday tried to sleep in again, one of my dogs will not let me sleep past 8 am. Even if I get up and take them out at what time I’d normally leave for work in the morning, and then go back to bed, she’s ready for me to get out of bed at 8 am. But it was fine because I needed to try to get another Blackout copy of one of Meghan Quinn’s books that she has every year. This year I ordered Three Blind Dates. I don’t own a copy of that one yet, and I think it was the first book of hers that I read. Then the movie Elf was on for 24 hours on one channel so I had that on in the background.

Books Finished

First was for a blog tour review posted on Monday. Second was an e-galley I got earlier in the year and then the blog tour was cancelled. I saved it to read since it was a holiday story. It had some issues, but the story was interesting at least. I posted a review on Wednesday. And I finally finished the Better Than Fiction ARC I had, posted that review on thanksgiving. The last book was one I was reading for a blog tour review on Saturday. And honestly, I don’t think that author can write anything that won’t leave me smiling and loving all of it! Fifth was an e-galley for the author’s review team that I will be posting my review on Tuesday. Finally was a book that is possibly for the Gateway committee list I’m reading, and since it was Christmas themed I picked it up and sped through it as it was a quick, easy read!

New Additions to My Library

ARCs:

None

Audiobooks:

These were all $4.99 or less in the Audible Black Friday sale. I might have gone a little crazy. But I did end up making myself not get any that were more than that price, so I did put a few back.

Bookish Stuff:

Finally got the last shirt in my order from author Tara Sivec’s shop. Love this book, the movie they made on Passionflix was so good too! I couldn’t believe she didn’t have a shirt for this, so I asked her about it on Facebook and she added it to the shop.

E-galleys:

This one is for a blog tour review at the end of January.

Free E-books:

Too many freebies with Black Friday deals! The first ten were for signing up for author’s newsletters. The rest were free on Amazon.

Physical Books:

Had to buy the paperback copy of Untying the Knot once I saw it wasn’t just the hot guy cover. The second I saw the author advertise the different cover, but I haven’t read it yet. I didn’t realize how small it would actually be when it came though!

What I’m Watching

I finished season two of One of Us is Lying, and with that cliffhanger, there better be a season 3!! A lot of tv this week seemed to be reruns, so some of the usual shows weren’t on this week. Monday night I went to the movies as I mentioned above and saw an exorcism movie called Prey for the Devil.

I was so happy that there were normal episodes of both Survivor and The Amazing Race on Wednesday night. And this episode of The Amazing Race just made me wish I had someone to go do it with! Also I went and saw Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and really liked it!

Coming Up Next Week on My Blog

The first two are e-galleys for being on authors’ review teams, but also for blog tours. The third one is an audiobook that I may or may not review this week as I’m having a lot of trouble with it.

I’ve also got a couple blitzes, my end of November post coming up, and possibly a sign up post for Top 10 of 2022 posts in December.

Giveaways

Don’t forget that I do now have the nice little box on the right hand sidebar so you can check out giveaways all the time!

  • Fall 2022 Seasons of Books Giveaway Hop – This giveaway runs till December!
  • The Looooong and the Short of It with a Giveaway: October 2022 Wrap-Up Post and What to Expect in November – This one ends on Wednesday this week. I’ve already got over 100 entries, so I’ll be picking 2 winners! And then the November wrap-up giveaway will start the same day I think!

I thought about moving away, but I was in the front row and they were in the second row right in the middle. I didn’t want to give up the seat I’d picked out that I wanted. I turned and gave some dirty looks a couple times, but it did nothing. I’m not very scary, lol.

  1. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving and it sounds like you did, too. That’s a lot of family at a get-together! The competitions sound fun.

And, wow, did you ever pick up the bargains for Black Friday. I wonder if there will be more for Cyber Monday.

It was nice to have all the family together again. I don’t know that we’ve had that many all at once in a long time! I think the Audible sale goes on for a couple more days, so if you want to check it out you can!

    • Lisa Mandina

Agreed! It’s like I was there first! Yep, too many days left till break. Hopefully they go by fast! Thanks for stopping by!

This was the first time even in a few years before the pandemic that we even had that big of a get together. It was very nice! Thanks for visiting!

  2. Yay for Christmas! I want to see Wakanda. Your Thanksgiving day sounds fun, and great family pic!

Dairy Queen sounds prettty good lol.

Hope you had a nice weekend. I was thinking of getting ornaments out today but that didn’t happen 🙂

Wakanda was pretty good! Hope you get to see it soon. Yeah, I’ve still got some outdoor decorating Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks! I like it too, it’s not as much in the colors since I didn’t put all the extra stuff on it, but I think I’m happy enough with it. It’s not like anyone comes to my house to see it. Thanks for visiting!

I love that you had one dog for each person, lol. The dogs are cute, but can be annoying when they start barking at everything. Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks! I loved that we got such a nice picture taken. So ready for the next longer break! Thanks for visiting!

  3. I can’t believe when the family walked in they basically sat right on top of you. I mean really? Didn’t they want their own space? I haven’t been to the movie in years, probably right before Covid, so somewhere in 2019. I really want to see Wakanda but will likely wait for it to hit Disney+. Besides I’m behind on my Marvel movies and have gotten into the kick where I watch them in release order. So yeah, way behind! That’s a lot of hours I need to devote to movie watching instead of reading.

Nice new reads and lineup! All new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them!

    Here’s my Monday Wrap-up

    Have a GREAT day!

There are a few Marvel movies I haven’t watched, like the Hulk movies and then I watched the first Ant Man but couldn’t get into the second one. The thing is, people pick their seats when they buy their tickets, so they did pick right in the middle of the row, but I wish they’d picked one row farther up! Oh well. That’s my own fault for going to the movies. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Sounds like a great week off! I love that y’all did a MarioKart race! As for your bike, if you adjust the seat and it falls down, that probably means the sleeve inside is missing or broken. You may be able to find help via YouTube. I’m addicted to my Peloton but I’ve spent a lot of time learning how the bike is put together so that I can troubleshoot it if there’s ever a problem.

I am not good at MarioKart, so my partner did most of the driving, and I only did one race that I had to. Yeah, I think something is missing. I’ve tried to figure it out on my own. I need to get them to respond to me to fix it. You’re smart learning all that so you can take care of it! Thanks for stopping by!
