Weekly Wrap-Up #93 – November 13th, 2022

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

I’m slowly getting better. Still coughing at the beginning of the week.

Sunday was a relaxing day until the KC Chiefs game was on and then we were stressed out and afraid we would lose. Of course I went to bed after 10 pm when the game was tied. It was nice when the dogs woke me up in the middle of the night to find out we’d won in overtime. This meme says it all for us Chiefs fans.

Of course Sunday night I got a text from my clerk saying she would be out on Monday, more family health issues keeping her home. So Monday I was alone in the library. I didn’t really have much breakfast, had no lunch break, just snacked throughout the day on a snack mix I have at my desk. It also meant I couldn’t really get much unpacking done, so I was at my desk most of the day. No lunch break meant no reading all day. When I got home I took the dogs out, then went and had a nice dinner at a local restaurant I really like and didn’t worry about eating most of the meal since I hadn’t really eaten much. Oh yeah, had to buy more Powerball tickets just in case!

Tuesday my district gave us the day off to vote. I guess they do that every other year. So I had my new desk delivered in the morning. Went to vote, ate lunch, then came home and spent from 1 pm – 8 pm putting my new desk together. Here is a picture of it.

Wednesday I was alone again in the library. Got a few things done. But still no lunch break. Fortunately it was our student early release day so I ran out and grabbed some food after they left at 1 pm and brought it back to eat while I worked at my desk. I forgot that I had one book review due Friday and started reading my Saturday book instead! So I got home that night and figured I better get to reading! And I did get a display put up for National Native American Heritage Month. I’m still working on some other visuals for the background too.

Thursday my clerk was back. But we have a deal we do once a year that has to do with suicide prevention. The students watch some different videos and fill out some questionnaires. They can talk about if they need help or some will even reach out about friends they are worried about. Kids get taken to talk to counselors, we have our 4 plus others from around the district that come in to talk to them. And parents are called too sometimes if the counselor believes they should be notified or if they want to suggest maybe the student talk with someone else. So we had all the counselors in different spots around the library. I had to finish reading the book that I had a review due for on Friday, so spent all night doing that pretty much.

Friday was a more normal day in the library. My clerk was there again, until the afternoon when two other secretaries in the building were gone so she had to go cover. I also had to finish a book that was due for a review on Saturday, so my exciting Friday night was reading a good book.

Saturday I did some stuff around the house, ran some errands, and then went to my brother’s house for dinner. It was cold out, so it was a nice day to stay in and read for most of it! I did see someone post about getting the Aldi cheese advent calendar so I ran out and had to have them go get one from the back of the store for me, but I have one for this year!

Books Finished

First was an ARC I posted a review for on Monday, I actually didn’t completely finish it, but as with many anthologies, I often quit when I get the gist. Second was an e-galley I read for the author’s review team and posted my review as part of a blog tour on Tuesday. Third was a book for one of my challenges that I’ve kept to read during bubble baths in my new tub for a few months. Fourth was an e-galley for a blog tour posted on Thursday. Fifth was another e-galley, read for the SmartyPants Romance blog tour on Friday. And last was an e-galley, but I also read the actual book part of the time. I posted my review for that one as part of the blog tour yesterday.

New Additions to My Library

ARCs:

So excited for this ARC! This author’s Blood Like Magic series were some of my favorite books over the past couple years!

Audiobooks:

Downloaded the first one from the library for free. It is another book that is a possible Gateway nominee for next school year. The second is for a blog tour review with Audiobook Empire Review Guild in approximately a month. It’s a novella, so shouldn’t take too long to listen to.

Bookish Stuff:

None

E-galleys:

I get these sent to me automatically from the author, but I don’t think I’m going to actually download them because I don’t have time to read them right now.

Free E-books:

I think this one was from an author’s newsletter? Can’t remember for sure.

Physical books:

Read this one, Stop Ghosting Me, last month and couldn’t help myself from ordering a copy from the author so it was autographed.

Got this finished copy for the blog tour I’m on and I’ll be posting my review on the 26th.

What I’m Watching

Of course as I mentioned above I had to watch the Chiefs game on Sunday night. The rest of the week was the same shows I’ve been watching. Monday night, thanks again to a suggestion by Greg at Book Haven Blog, I started One Of Us Is Lying, and I was hooked from the first episode!

Coming Up Next Week on My Blog

First is an ARC I got from the publisher. The second and third are e-galleys for author review teams!

I’ve also got a promo and a blitz, as well as my DNF report of all the DNFs from the past few months.

Giveaways

Don’t forget that I do now have the nice little box on the right hand sidebar so you can check out giveaways all the time!

Final Thoughts

How was your week? Did you read or watch anything good? Get any good books? Have anything exciting coming up this week? This week’s dog picture is my dog Argyle who doesn’t like when I get upset while watching the Chiefs game. lol

This one is from Aldi’s, I guess they have wine advent calendars too, and usually there is a line to get them the day they put them out. I lucked into this one! Argyle is pretty sweet, but a little bit of a pain, lol. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Sorry you didn’t get much unpacking done. I have been busy, but mostly trying to keep my habits straight. Life gets at you and you have to keep going somehow. it’s amazing:) wink

I’m guessing I’ll have my clerk all week since we have the whole week for Thanksgiving off! But who knows about if she has to cover for anyone else in the building when she is there. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I’m not a huge sports fan, but I know my brother was watching the game. He’s a huge Chiefs fan. 😀 I’m glad they won for you.

Sounds like a busy week in the library. I love that you host a suicide prevention thing every year. It’s so needed!

I hope you have a good week!

I think it is a great thing we do for our kids. Now if we can just figure out how to get them to stop fighting so much! Although this year seems better than last year and we have more kids at school since they pretty much had to come back to in person unless they really had a true doctor note. Watching my Chiefs again and hoping for another win! Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I was at Aldi this past week and they had out the advent calendars with chocolates but they weren’t gluten-free so I didn’t get one. I’ll have to look for cheese; we got that one last year and it was pretty good. It’s rough that your clerk is gone like 80% of the time. I got an email about the blog tour 2 days after I posted my review for Folk Around and Find Out and so it was messed up but at least I could send all my review links. Hopefully that are not too mad at me.

I think as long as you were able to share your review links in time it won’t be a problem! I have had to reach out a couple time when something has come up and they’ve always been very nice about it. I saw the chocolate advent calendars and some others, I couldn’t find the cheese ones and asked my cashier who found out they had some in the back. So crazy me waiting in line a second time after I went back and got a cheese advent calendar, lol.

Busy weeks seem to be the way school is these days! But yeah, it makes the day go by faster. I’d be less stressed I think if I had all my books on the shelves. Maybe next week I’ll be able to get it. I think I only have like 10 boxes left.

  4. Nice desk! And that sucks about not getting a lunch. Makes for a long day. The Forest book by Christina Henry looks intriguing- I went over to Amazon to take a peek and love the sound of it. 🙂

A cheese advent calendar seems like a nice way to combine two good things lol.

Thanks for the shout out! I smiled when I saw that- I’m glad you’re liking the show. I just finished S2 recently and LOVED it.

I’m sure I’ll be on to season 2 when I finish this first one! You’re kind of my go-to for finding new shows to watch these days. lol!

  5. My kittens aren’t thrilled when I watch Ravens football or Caps hockey either. Lol. I will have to check out One of Us is Lying. I’ve heard great things about it. Have a wonderful week! 🙂

    • Lisa Mandina

Yep, today I had to just close the library doors and turn the lights by the door out with a sign in front. Yeah, my Chiefs are doing well the last couple weeks!

I think more places are starting. This is the first place I’ve worked that’s done that! The cheese advent calendar has been a big thing at Aldi’s I guess, but usually they sell out like the very first day with a line. So I was excited when I went in and found they still had some!
