Weekly Wrap-Up #92 – November 6th, 2022

Posted November 6, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 30 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

It’s November! I’m now in the mood for Thanksgiving, but also for putting up my decorations!

Last Sunday I was supposed to do a craft night with some friends, but even though I had two negative Covid tests, I still had a stuffy nose, sore throat, and a little bit of a cough, so I stayed home.

Monday I ended up staying home from work. By the time I woke up, my sore throat and cough were pretty much gone, but my nose was all stuffed up and I could feel it in my head. I actually spent a ton of the day just sneezing or feeling like I was about to sneeze. Of course I skipped going to watch my niece and nephew on their trick or treating night since I didn’t want to get them sick and wanted to keep recovering so I could go back to work on Tuesday. I didn’t have any candy to pass out either, so had to make sure my front lights were off, which I normally do leave them off, but also keep my front blinds closed.

Tuesday my library clerk was out, so I was alone in the library. And I don’t know that I was back to feeling normal yet, but that’s the story of my life.

Wednesday alone again in the library. We have the high school’s “Hall of Fame” celebration on Friday and of course it is in the library. Let’s just say things having to do with that and me still trying to get everything unpacked and out on the shelves was a little much today and I had to go back into my storeroom and let some tears out for awhile. At the end of the day we talked about a special day we have next week where we kind of talk to students and see if there are any of them seeming depressed, etc., I don’t know exactly how to describe it. But it was kind of hard for me to listen to that with my own emotions the way they were today.

I was up a lot overnight with coughing, grateful for my adjustable bed frame so I could sit up easily and still sleep. Because of that I stayed home from work on Thursday. Rested, read, blogged, etc.

I ended up just going ahead and staying home on Friday to keep recovering as well. I felt guilty, because before Covid, I would go to work if I could move and wasn’t in horrible pain, etc. But these days it also feels like we shouldn’t be going around other people if we are coughing, etc. Even with a negative Covid test, I know there are a lot of other things going around, and so whatever I have I don’t want to pass on. Friday was a lovely rainy day, and I was enjoying the stormy weather till my power went out. It was only about an hour and a half though, so that wasn’t that bad.

Saturday was another relaxing day for the most part. I guess we actually had some snowflakes in the morning, but I was sleeping in, so didn’t see them other than all my friends’ pictures on Facebook, lol. In the evening we went to a local family Italian restaurant to celebrate my aunt’s 65th birthday.

Books Finished

Finished the first one for a SmartyPants Romance blog tour review which was posted on Wednesday, second was for a SPR blog tour review on Friday. The third was a finished copy I got of a much anticipated book from a publisher that I posted my review on Saturday. Fourth was an e-galley I got from the publisher. I could have sworn I had a physical ARC, but I didn’t. Anyway, it was my first by this author and I ended up loving it!

New Additions to My Library

ARCs:

I think I filled out a possible giveaway for this in maybe Shelf Awareness? Not sure, but so excited for this one! It doesn’t come out till next April though, so stay tuned!

Audiobooks:

The author mentioned in her newsletter that the first one was free on Authors Direct. So I went and grabbed it! Second was my November Audible credit. Loved the first book, I think I even had an ARC of it, but I’m a little behind on my CoHo reading, so I’ll listen to this one either after my current listen, or I may put that on hold and start this one.

Bookish Stuff:

I jumped on my computer at midnight the night Penny Reid put these boxes up for sale. It wasn’t cheap, but I wanted all the cool stickers and magnets! I already have a copy of the paper dolls, so I might have to gift the other or do a giveaway. There were magnets of all the Winston brothers, and even a Penny Reid sticker! Like a sticker of the author!

E-galleys:

The first one is for a blog tour review the week of Thanksgiving. Second is for the author’s review team, and I should be posting my review on November 15th.

Free E-books:

The first one was free as part of the Amazon Prime First Reads. The rest of the top row was free on Amazon. The bottom row were all from signing up for authors’ newsletters. Some of them might still be available HERE.

Physical Books:

I finally got my physical copy of one I read in September that I had ordered directly from the author so I could have it autographed, Sharkbait. None others after last week’s huge haul thankfully for my wallet! I skipped this month’s Book of the Month club choices after rejoining last month because nothing sounded good.

What I’m Watching

Working on catching up on the DVR shows I missed last week during conferences. I also started Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. Now that was perfect scary tv.

Friday night, I couldn’t pick which of the series I’d started that I wanted to watch more of, and I noticed that the HBO Max app had Barbarian so I watched that. It was so weird, not at all what I was expecting! But definitely I can see why people were talking about it.

Coming Up Next Week on My Blog

Yep, once again I signed up for too many. To be fair, I’ve had an ARC of the first one for a few months now, so it’s my own fault for not getting it done sooner! But as I started it, it wasn’t quite what I thought it was going to be, so don’t know if I’ll finish it. I’ll probably review what I have read for that one. I also have a blitz for one day next week as well.

Giveaways

Don’t forget that I do now have the nice little box on the right hand sidebar so you can check out giveaways all the time!

Final thoughts:

How was your week? Did you read or watch anything good? Get any good books? Have anything exciting coming up this week? This week I remembered to share a pic of my two dogs sitting on my lap one of the cool fall days this past week!

  1. Your dogs look so cute! Nice bookish haul this week. Someone else recommended the Guillermo del Toro movie, I’ll have to watch that soon. Feel better and happy reading 🙂

Yeah, even with being negative for Covid, I know they’re saying there’s a higher rate of other respiratory illnesses going around. And with the coughing, I don’t feel like sitting at work with a mask on.

  2. The High school hall of fame celebration hall of fame sounds great. I never missed a chance to celebrate anything at my school. I remember particularly painting my face white in support of mom’s against drunk driving.

Well, it’s alumnae, not current high school students. But I was just too tired to deal with what it entailed this week.

Yeah, I’m feeling rested and I guess ready for the week, I’m also guessing I’ll probably be alone for part of it, but we’ll see! Fortunately our district gives us Tuesday off to vote, so I know I’ll have one day off this week.

  3. I’m totally in the mood for Thanksgiving too! 🙂 And I hear you on staying home. These days even if you don’t have Covid people will think you do if you cough or anything, so you might as well ha ha.

Barbarian looks creepy. I was just watching the trailer and was like nope, stop going further into the house lol

Exactly! And if I’m not feeling well, then I don’t want to sit with a mask on in public when I can be at home without one. Oh my gosh Barbarian was so creepy! And yeah, when she started going further, I was like, nope, go get help.

Thanks! I’m hoping the cough goes soon! And it will seem to be gone, then pop up right when I’m around someone else.

  4. Sorry you are sick. I think I have the same thing-my head is so congested, I have a cough, a headache, sneezes. I probably should have stayed home Friday, but I didn’t. I might stay home tomorrow. I don’t know what the illness is, but its miserable.

Yeah, I took two Covid tests just to be positive. Both negative. I’ll go in this week. Will just have to deal with it I guess! I hope you get to feeling better! I’m mostly just dealing with a little cough now.

    • Lisa Mandina

Can’t get the cough to completely go away sadly, but otherwise I’m mostly back to normal. Thanks for visiting!

  5. It really is best to stay home when you’re sick, and I’m glad you did and got some rest. I have an adjustable bed and now I can’t figure out how I ever slept on a flat bed. I hope you’re feeling much better soon and have a great week.

I love my adjustable bed so much. If only the sheets would stay on it. I had to buy the clip things to keep them on even when I bought the extra deep sheet sets. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Sorry you had to miss craft night and trick or treaters, but smart to be so careful about it. My mom and I were just recently saying how a couple years ago we all just went to work and carried on as usual if we had a cold. Things are so different now. We stay at home, quarantine, and test for Covid. In some ways, not such a bad thing since we’re keeping it from spreading, even if it’s just a cold. Good for you for staying home and taking care of yourself (and others). I hope this week is much better!

Yep, it’s crazy how much we’ve changed how we deal with illness! So far other than a cough I went back to work. Thanks for visiting!

  7. Sorry to hear you were sick. It seems to be that time of year for most of us. Thankfully I haven’t caught anything yet, and I got a flu shot a week or two ago, so fingers remain crossed! Hop you’re more on the mend now!

Nice new reads! Those are all totally new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

    Here’s my Monday Wrap-up

    Have a GREAT day!

Fingers crossed you get to skip over this cold. I’m feeling mostly back to normal except for a lingering cough. Thanks for stopping by!
