Weekly Wrap-Up #90 – October 23rd, 2022

Posted October 23, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 36 Comments

Well, actually it was yesterday, but I am no longer in my 40s. It’s the big 5-0. And believe me, I definitely feel everyone of my years physically, even if I don’t feel mentally or emotionally like I should be this old yet or have accomplished what I want yet.

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

My family is actually waiting till today to do a party because of what works for everyone to get together.

Okay, so let’s start with last Sunday. It was a relaxing day, and then had to go to bed with a loss for my Chiefs. Although it was a really close game, and it was against a good team, so yeah.

Monday was busy at school, and then in the evening I had a Great Kansas City Association of School Librarians meeting. It was definitely good to be part of that for the evening and inspiring.

At least until I woke up Tuesday morning to a text that my library clerk was sick and not coming in. So Tuesday I had a class working in the library 3 hours, and those same three hours I had other teachers coming in to check out books. It also meant I didn’t get an actual lunch break, and with me being behind in my reading, that was not great!

Wednesday my clerk was back. My assistant principal had scheduled a meeting in the library from 7-10 am for other principals around the city, so we were mostly closed in the morning. Wednesdays are our day we have the kids leave early, so the afternoon I continued working on the same things I’d done most of the day.

Thursday I continued to work on getting books cataloged and didn’t do much unpacking. My library clerk brought me some delicious homemade peanut butter cookies for my birthday! It was also one of my dogs, Argyle’s 10th birthday! So I always get them treats and both get a toy, however one toy always seems to be the one they both want, lol.

Friday we had no students for the day so we were allowed to work from home. I got a pedicure, lol, and did lots of reading. Then in the evening, the place where my mom has set up a craft booth that she doesn’t have to be there all the time had their official opening. We all met out there to check it out, and of course to look around the other booths as well. I’ll probably go again another time. They had some cool Chiefs tumblers and I’ve been wanting one. Nice for me they were in the booth right next to my mom’s. She has two booths, right across the aisle from each other. Here are some pictures she took.

Saturday was my actual birthday! My friend, other Lisa, we take turns being other Lisa, had the puppy out when I got her house so I could play with it. Then she took me to lunch and after we went to play mini-golf. We both love dinosaurs, so there was a cool place called Prehistoric Putt-Putt that we went to play. Here are some fun pics from that!

Books Finished

Read and LOVED the first one for the author’s review team and I posted my review on Monday. Second was for a blog tour review last Thursday. I love this series, and this author, and this was a character I’d been waiting for! The third and fourth I finished on Friday, while I was “working” from home, and while I was getting a pedicure, lol. I posted both of their reviews yesterday, Saturday.

New Additions to My Library

ARCs:

None

Audiobooks:

None

Bookish Stuff:

None

E-galleys:

I got the first one Monday, then it came out early on Tuesday when it wasn’t supposed to be live till Thursday! My review will actually be posted during the blog tour in November, so I won’t get to it this week probably. I’m behind on books! Ugh! The second one comes out in November which is when I’ll be posting my review as well.

Free Ebooks:

A free YA from Amazon, and a free anthology also.

Physical books:

I got a bunch more free at the meeting I went to on Monday night, but they were all for school so I didn’t take any pictures.

Not a book, but a magazine. Got this for a dollar, it’s kind of like the concert book? I don’t know, but silly me had to buy it.

I think I won this or used my points on Bookish First to get a copy because I’ve been so excited to read it!

So, I panicked a bit when it came out early, and ordered it, since I hadn’t received the e-galley yet. It came this week.

What I’m Watching

All the usual weekly shows, including the new season of Whose Line Is It Anyway. I might have given up on the new Supernatural prequel show as it’s almost basically seeming to kind of be the same as Supernatural started out. Only not the same or I don’t care as much about the characters? I don’t know. Saturday night I started the new season of American Horror Story because I was in the mood for something scary. While it was good, it wasn’t scary unfortunately.

Coming Up Next Week on the Blog

First is an e-galley from SmartyPants Romance that the review will be this week, and last is an ARC the publisher sent me. Since I haven’t gotten all the ARCs I have read in the past couple weeks, it’s possible some of those will finally get reviewed this week. I am hoping to do both a L-L-Little Review post, as well as a DNF post this week. We have parent conferences this week, so that makes for long days Wednesday and Thursday, but then we get Friday all day off, so that is nice!

Giveaways

Don’t forget that I do now have the nice little box on the right hand sidebar so you can check out giveaways all the time!

  • Fall 2022 Seasons of Books Giveaway Hop – This giveaway runs till December!
  • The Looooong and the Short of It with a Giveaway: September Wrap-Up Post and What to Expect in October – Last month’s got over 100 entries so I picked up two winners from that one, and I’ll do the same if this month gets over 100 entries!

Final Thoughts

How was your week? Did you read or watch anything good? Get any good books? Have anything exciting coming up this week? Will you be doing anything for Halloween next weekend? And here’s a picture of the birthday boy Argyle with one of his birthday presents, not the one they both fought over though, lol.

Fortunately my team made up for it this weekend by winning! lol I didn’t really care for the old one as much as I enjoy the new one, crazy! Thanks for stopping by!

It is a little bat! It has a squeaker inside, the ears are that crinkly stuff, and then it has little rubber feet. Yeah, it’s not really what I used to watch AHS for, but then I’ve kind of been bored and not finished the last two seasons, so we’ll see how this one goes. Thanks for visiting!

Yes, it was an exciting Chiefs game for sure! And I did have a great birthday weekend. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Happy Birthday again! And happy birthday to Argyle. Sounds like a pretty good week all around. I’m hoping this one will go kind of quick, but then again, I say that every week no matter what is going on. LOL

Thank you from both of us! I am with you on hoping the week goes by quick. We have parent conferences this week, so blah. It means a 7am-7pm day on Wednesday and an 8am-8pm day on Thursday. But then we get Friday off. Hope you have a quick but good week!

  2. Happy belated Birthday! Hope you had a fantastic day! That mini golf place looks fun! I love putt-putt! Haven’t played in years…ironically one of the last ones I played at was also dino-themed! It was at Give Kids the World when I was a teen in high school so that was awhile back! Lol. Not too many places near me have nice courses, there might be chinsy ones at some regular golf places, but I prefer the fun ones like these! Lol.

Hope you enjoy your reads lined up for this week and all of your newly obtained reads!

    Here’s my Monday Wrap-up

We usually play mini-golf every Memorial Day weekend at a Pirate themed place when we go to Branson that weekend. This dinosaur place is a little newer. I’m sure part of the fun was the person I went with too, lol. Thank for visiting!

I’ve got to lose some weight. 60 pounds would be nice! How did you do it? You definitely made some big changes and did some great things!

      • Well it was a combo of things. I was so unhappy I wasn’t interested in eating. I stuck to mostly protein or veggies when I did eat. I’d lost 20 pounds before I started trying and added some exercise. I decided if Charlie Hunnam could do pushups I would so I would have stronger arms to ride the Harley. At first I could barely do 5. Then I got so I did 50 a day. To make them harder put your feet up, it’s really hard. I also started doing pullups on a bar. I was never great at that. I also did some weights. But it was mostly strength training and not eating much. When I did more regular eating, I would have cottage cheese and fruit for breakfast, a handful of nuts for lunch, and a more regular dinner. When I got down to size 4 I really did not want to get to size 2 and have to buy more clothes so I added back ice cream into my diet. lol I kept the weight off for 9 years. Sigh then I had an injury and gained weight.

You are definitely inspiring! I just wish being depressed would make me lose weight. I eat more instead. Plus living alone I don’t want to do anything that takes a lot of time or effort to cook, and I hate eating leftovers for more than one or two meals. Ugh. I need to work on it though.

  3. Happy belated birthday to you and Argyle! I hope you enjoyed your party. Your mum’s craft booths look great! Dinosaur mini-golf sounds fun too.
I’m looking forward to having a little Halloween party at home and visiting the pumpkin patch.
