Weekly Wrap-Up #86 – September 25th, 2022

Posted September 25, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 34 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

I’m starting to feel like I’m writing too much about my week, so I’m going to try to make myself keep it to 3 or 4 sentences only for each day. Also, I’m so ready for October! It brings spooky fun with Halloween, hopefully cooler weather, and my birthday at the end!

Last Sunday I spent relaxing at home. Tried to not leave the house so as not to spend money as I was still waiting to get the actual money from my mortgage refinance. Plus my shoulder was still sore from moving boxes at school the week before so another hot soak in my new soaker tub was in order.

Monday was a little bit slower day at school. I was able to get quite a few more boxes of books unpacked. Found out my mortgage refinance was accepted and just had to wait for the checks to be mailed.

Tuesday I checked my bank account and found the cash I was getting from the refinance was already in my account! Then when I got home I had the checks that I have to send to the loan and credit cards that are being paid off with the refinance. So of course with the money in my account my first purchases were books and audiobooks, lol. Work was kind of quiet. I got another 10 or so boxes unpacked.

Wednesday got another 10 or so boxes unpacked I think. In the afternoon all the librarians in the district had a meeting about the senate bill in Missouri and books that have been or might be challenged. It is weird after my last district where we had 6 librarians just at the high school level to only have about 10 librarians total for all levels in our whole district where I am now. I went out to dinner with my stepdad since my mom was out of town. And I watched the first episode of the new season of Survivor I was NOT happy about who they voted out.

And weather on Wednesday finally had the temperatures dropping as a cold front came through, and I loved the sounds of the leaves rustling and leaves that had fallen being blown around on the ground, fall sounds!

Thursday was a slower day in the library. We’re down to less than 10 students needing laptops, but no laptops to give them. Plus at least 20 students who already have their laptops in the technology office waiting to be fixed. But no tech people in the building most of the day.

Friday my library clerk stayed home with her son who was sick. So I didn’t get a ton done in the library, about 6 boxes maybe. I also ended the day with a bit of a stomach upset, not sure from what. I saw people saying that the last After movie was finally on Amazon Prime, so I was going to rent it, but then I saw it was $19.99 to rent. Um, that’s more than a movie ticket at the actual theater. So, no. Instead I decided to start the new Netflix series about Jeffrey Dahmer.

Saturday I slept in, then went to the movies with a friend. Did a little fun shopping in the afternoon, then went to dinner with my mom and stepdad at our favorite Mexican restaurant.

Books Finished

I read the first one ARC for a blog tour review on Wednesday. The second was for a blog tour on Thursday. Third was for a blog tour yesterday.

New Additions to My Library

ARCs:

None

Audiobooks:

So Audible’s sale might have been like crack for me once I got the refinance money back. I only bought ones that were under $5, and originally I had about twice as many in the cart.

Bookish Stuff:

The last season of Outlander came out on DVD this week, and I had to get the special edition DVD from Barnes & Noble again. It came with a neat little booklet inside, as well as an excerpt from the 10th book, but I’m still reading book 2.

I got a t-shirt I ordered last month that is for the school librarian association for my state.

E-galleys:

First is for a blog tour review the first week of October. Second is the next one coming in the SmartyPants Romance releases this fall, I should be posting my review in about a month.

Free E-books:

All were free on Amazon. The first three were part of a one day sale on Wednesday.

Physical Books:

The first book is a much younger book than I read that a publisher sent me. So I will probably see if my niece wants it. And if not, I’ll donate it to an elementary library in my district or put it on the Everybody book shelf in my library that our SPED kids like to check stuff off of. The second picture are two books I got from BookishFirst, one I won, and the other I used my points on the site to get. Both I’m planning to read and review in October. Last was a box of goodies along with her newest release from Kilby Blades. There is some stationery, a sticker, some candy, soap, a journal, and even a recipe card!

What I’m Watching

Well, Survivor and The Amazing Race both started new seasons on Wednesday night. I’m so excited they’re on the same night this time! I also started watching Devil in Ohio. It started out pretty creepy. Especially the prayer/blessing she said at their dinner table that first night!

As I mentioned I started the new season of Survivor and was not happy with the first person who they voted out. She was not the weakest. It should have been the person who messed them up at the beginning of the immunity challenge.

The new season of The Amazing Race started the same night and I loved the new way they did a scramble so you had no idea really who was in what order for sure!

As I mentioned I started the new Jeffrey Dahmer series, which the first episode was definitely disturbing.

There are a lot of movies out right now that I want to see. So I went on Saturday to one that my friend also wanted to see. It was pretty good. Twisty and I didn’t expect what the final twist ended up being! Now, a lot of people, newer to the After series, disagree with me, but since I know that the character of Hardin in those books was originally fan fiction based on Harry Styles, I totally felt like he and the actress that played his wife in this movie could have done the After movies.

Coming Up Next Week On My Blog

The first and last one are ARCs. The first from a trade on Twitter, the last from the publisher. The second and third are egalleys to read as part of blog tour reviews.

There are also some promos and my end of the month wrap-up should be next Saturday.

Final Thoughts

How was your week? Did you read or watch anything good? Get any good books? Have anything exciting coming up this week? Can you believe it is almost October?

And because I’ve seen this on other blogs, I think I’ll end each week with a cute picture of my dogs from the week. This is the little couch I have by the window in my front room/office. Argyle is guarding, while Dora is resting her head on his back. The orange thing sticking out is my straw from my drink on my desk, lol.

Wow! That’s more than my car payment too! Crazy! I don’t listen fast enough to buy that many. I probably am at the point where I need to stop as I might be never getting them all listened to like all the books sitting on my TBR bookcase waiting to be read.

I mostly picked from my wishlist as well, but a few others when I just looked up some authors by name, lol. I can’t listen to audiobooks at work. I have to be ready to help students. 🙁

Not all romance, I read YA about 25% of the time I’d say. But yeah, mostly romance. That’s about all I get for free e-books anyway. Thanks for visiting!

  1. I did a middling amount of spending at the Audible sale and was very happy with my purchases. It’s great your refinance went thru so smoothly especially with interest rates going up right now. I got the newest Allen Eskens book at the library as I was # 1 on the hold list so I got it at 12 am on release day! Yay for the library.

My new rate is higher than what I had, but because my house went up in value, I was able to get higher interest credit cards and loans paid off so that is better in the long run. Enjoy your new book!

  2. Books are always a good first purchase! 🙂 I love fall although the leaves haven’t started turning here much yet, but they will soon. It’s cooled off and raining a lot, so I think summer is about done here ha.

Hope you had an awesome weekend 🙂

Leave have barely started changing here. But I’m sure it will keep going! We haven’t had a lot of rain here though. Thanks for visiting!

  3. Hooray for getting the refinance taken care of. Twenty bucks to *rent* the last After movie? Sheesh, that’s crazy. I imagine you could buy it for that. I took advantage of the Audible sale, too. Hard not to at those prices. I think I ended up with about 10 titles and, like you, nothing I got was over $5. 🙂

  4. Nice! Glad you got your refinancing money quicker than you thought! That’s gotta be nice! Lol. And ooh nice new reads! I’m excited for Christo’s new book! I still need to order that one. I somehow missed that one in B&N’s last preorder sale. Sigh…

Ooh, my mom and I just binged Devil in Ohio last week. We work from home, so we had it on as background noise. It was definitely a weird one! Hope you enjoy the rest!

    Here’s my Monday Wrap-up

    Have a GREAT day!

I watched the first two episodes of Devil in Ohio, need to keep going! But then new tv seasons started back up and Dahmer and I got side tracked, lol.

    • Lisa Mandina

Thanks! I think they’re pretty cute. I’ve heard good things about See How They Run. Hope you get to see it and enjoy it!

I enjoyed Love & Olives, and enjoyed this one too! I liked the movie for Love & Gelato, but I haven’t read it yet.

  5. Congratulations on your mortgage refinance going through. I know you were stressed about that. I’m glad the money came quickly too. I hope you’re able to do with it what you’d like.

Right now I’ve got the exact amount I’d need to get out of my contract sitting in my savings. Not that I’ll probably end up finding another job during the school year though at this rate. Thanks for stopping by!
