Weekly Wrap-Up #85 – September 18th, 2022

Posted September 18, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 28 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

First I promised to share some pictures from the Michael Buble concert last Saturday night. It was awesome! It was cool because he told us that he got picked up that morning by actor Eric Stonestreet, who is from Kansas City, he was on the tv show Modern Family, and then he got to go meet Patrick Mahomes! So later in the show someone also gave him a KC Chiefs jersey with his name on the back.

Sunday morning I got to sleep in with nothing I had to get up to do. That was so nice! I just wished the rainy morning I had Saturday would have been Sunday instead. In the evening we had dinner at my brother’s house for my sister-in-law’s birthday. My KC Chiefs won their game, so that was good. Plus, I’m sooooo ready for October because I got the new header I asked Michelle at Limabean Designs to make when I also asked her to make the school one I’m using now. You guys, it is sooooooo cool!!! I love it so much! I’ve also asked her to make me one come Christmas time, and I know that will be awesome as well!

Monday morning started out okay. We were out of laptops to hand out, so still working on that. Then I started getting emails about the online students which was frustrating again. I got a few more boxes of books put out, but I also opened a couple of boxes that were books returned by students at the end of the year, so they weren’t in order. Which meant I had to rearrange a few of the earlier letters in the fiction section to fit them in. I also realized when I do my mortgage refinance this week I would have enough money to get out of my current contract if I could just find another job.

Tuesday another lovely day. Started right off with an email from the person in the district that has been bugging me about the online students. I mean we have 30 kids in long term suspension that I am having to enroll. And I found out on Tuesday that I also have to enroll the middle school students that will be going to our high school. I feel like every day I get one more thing added to my list of duties. One more thing not at all related to being a librarian. I did go get my hair colored after school. So a little pampering was nice.

Wednesday my library assistant was gone, she had doctor appointments for her son. I started out the day with an email from one of our assistant superintendents saying I needed to enroll a long term suspension student ASAP. Well, turns out that student wasn’t even cleared for residency. So yeah. I’m a little tired of this district. I spent an hour in the early evening signing all the papers for my mortgage refinance.

Thursday was a not so great day. I didn’t get tickets to Book Bonanza for the first time in the three years it has been held. But I guess they had at least 8000 or more people in the website queue line, although I think some people had two or more devices open and in line. Which is stupid and annoying. Since there are only 2 new authors for me to meet, I guess it probably isn’t worth the money to go even if I had got a ticket. Even if they are authors I really wanted to meet. I did sign up to be a volunteer. But that whole ticket process was a crazy mess. I spent about two hours of my work day sitting at my desk with my laptop open to the page waiting to get in to try to buy a ticket, only to find out they were all sold.

At school there were two fights on Thursday. At the end of the day a very angry parent came in, we assume from one of the fights. And then after school a girl fell down some steps when she was going out to the buses and possibly broke her foot. Not sure what the verdict was as they were still taking care of her when I was leaving. Thursday evening I was home and sore from moving heavy boxes all day. A nice hot soak in my newly renovated bathroom helped. And then a win by my KC Chiefs right before I went to bed as well!

Friday I thought my shoulder was okay after the bath. But I decided to do some more moving and unpacking boxes at school. And even though I tried to take it slow and be careful, my shoulder was soon aching again. So I spent the afternoon going through catalogs for books to add to my order wishlists. I had thought about going to a movie Friday night, but I was just too tired.

Saturday was my stepdad’s 75th birthday, so we had a little surprise get-together at a favorite restaurant of his nearby. He has really gotten into electric guitars over the last 10 or so years, repairing and selling, and a little bit of playing himself. So we had a cake made that looked like an electric guitar. My mom knows someone who does really cool balloon sculptures, so they did some cool ones with electric guitars too!

Books Finished

First was an ARC from the publisher. I posted my review on Monday, but it doesn’t come out till this Tuesday. Second was for a blog tour I posted my review on Wednesday. Third was an audiobook. And fourth was an ARC that I should have posted my review for yesterday!

New Additions to My Library

ARCs:

This was a suprise ARC. And I have to admit I’ve never read this very prolific author. And even though both my sisters loved the Pretty Little Liars tv show, I never watched it. So we’ll see if I can fit this one into my schedule to read.

Audiobooks:

Got this from the library. It’s one of the books to listen to for the library committee I’m on.

Bookish stuff:

Hallmark had an awesome Harry Potter display and even though this was a little bit expensive, it is a good brand and I couldn’t resist it.

E-galleys:

The first two are for the SmartyPants romance release. Third is for a blog tour review at the end of September. Fourth was the e-galley I’d been waiting on. Last was a book the publisher sent me the link to Netgalley for, by an author I love! It might not be my normal type of read, but I’ll try just about anything Gwenda Bond writes.

Free E-books:

This author put the first two up for free since the third in the series is getting ready to come out. The third and fourth were also free on Amazon. The last one was for signing up for an author’s newsletter.

Physical books:

The first one goes with the one I got last week. I listened to the audiobook, but just had to own a paperback copy too! The second one was another surprise from a publisher. Unfortunately I haven’t read the first one in the series, so I’ll probably just be donating this one to my school library where I think I do have the first book.

What I’m Watching

Had to finish up the new season of Cobra Kai. It was so good! I thought this was supposed to be the last season. And they did end it. But there are a few things I’d really like to see where they might go! I started the new season of The Handmaid’s Tale. Not sure if it is really keeping my attention that much, but I’ll give it a little longer.

I also rewatched a fun little movie based on a favorite book, Seduction and Snacks, and once again I just adored it. It’s a cute and funny movie that just keeps you engaged the whole time. There are some parts that got me in the feels and of course some kind a sexy moments too since it is based on a romance book and filmed by the Passionflix channel. I do totally recommend this one though! I wish I could buy a DVD copy of it. The filming makes me think of like a sit-com. It’s not what you’d think of as poorly done at all in my opinion. The dialogue and acting of everyone is just perfect. All the way through.

Coming Up Next Week on My Blog

I have an ARC of the first one from the publisher, I will be reviewing as part of a blog tour on Wednesday. The other two are e-galleys and should be posted this week as well! The last one was supposed to be this past week, but when I went to download to my Kindle, I realized the publisher had never approved me on Netgalley. Which was weird because I have contacts there. So I reached out and asked if there was any way to auto-approve me for their books, telling them I probably wouldn’t have time to read this one before the pub date, and they went ahead and did that for me, my goal is to get it read for next weekend .I’ve also got some cover reveals and some promos. And I will be posting a new giveaway this week, the Fall Seasons of Books Giveaway!

Giveaways

  • Summer 2022 Seasons of Books Giveaway Hop – This giveaway ends this week, which is why the Fall one will be starting up!

  1. I am so glad you had fun at the Michael Buble concert! Thank you for sharing the photos. It sounds like you had quite the week. I am sorry you did not get the ticket to the Book Bonanza. I hope your shoulder is feeling better. Happy birthday to your stepdad! I love that guitar cake! I have heard such good things about This Poison Heart and hope you love it. Ooo! I want to read Mr. a& Mrs. Witch. I hope you have a better week!

Hoping it is a bit easier week, but I’m currently concerned my assistant may have to take some days off due to her husband going back to the hospital. We’ll see how it goes! Thanks for visiting!

  2. Love the pics from the concert. I bet he puts on such a good show. My home team is the Jacksonville Jaguars (who completely shut out the Colts today – wow!!), but I really like Mahomes. He seems like such a good guy. All the extra tasking at work sounds so annoying. And unfair. 🙁 Love the balloon sculpture your mom did for your stepdad’s birthday!

    • Lisa Mandina

Yay for your Jaguars! So exciting when that happens! Yeah, I like Mahomes a lot! Work is work I guess. I can make it till 2028 I think. Then I’ll retire and just find a job that doesn’t stress me out because I will have my retirement to fall back on. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. The Michael Buble concert looks awesome! I love his Christmas album. And that guitar cake is great! It sounds like a busy week especially with school. I need to watch the new Handmaids Tale season, I love that show. Enjoy your books this week!

The beginning of the first new episode of The Handmaid’s Tale was kinda boring, but it got a little better. And I’m interested enough to keep going. Thanks for visiting!

  4. I love the pictures from the concert! That’s a pretty cool story about his interactions with local celebrities. That makes them sound like they’re not A-list celebrities, but I know they are, lol. My older brother would’ve loved that he got a Chiefs jersey. He’s a huge fan because he was born in KC. (Congrats on the wins too!)

I love this school header. I’m excited to see the other headers too!

I really hope you can find a new job so you can get out of your contract! Sorry it has been another week filled with non-librarian duties. I’m glad a couple of the days weren’t too bad, though.

Sorry you couldn’t get book bonanza tickets! 🙁

Happy birthday to your stepdad! His cake looks awesome and the balloon sculptures are pretty cool too!

  5. The concert looks like a blast! And wow I guess the fun is still continuing at your school huh? I hope you’re able to find a place where you can focus more on being a librarian. And Cobra Kai- oh my gosh I binged that like in two days.

I always love all your headers, so you inspired me to do the different ones! I’m sad about BB, but maybe it is time I let someone else go. Even though I will miss out on Ruby Dixon.

    • Lisa Mandina

I’m guessing with Colleen Hoover’s fame thanks to BookTok it is probably similar to how Comic Con is now in a way!

  6. Glad you had a good time at the concert! I can’t remember that last time I went to one of those! I usually don’t like dealing with the crowds that come with it so I rarely ever go! Lol. Glad your stepdad had a nice birthday party! That cake looks amazing and the balloon sculpture is awesome!

Nice new reads and goodies! Hope you enjoy all of them once you get to read them!

    Here’s my Monday Wrap-up

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • Lisa Mandina

I will only go if I get good tickets. So I usually only go to the same two concerts over and over. NKOTB and Michael Buble. lol

  7. Live shows have such great energy – glad you enjoyed it! We have similar TV tastes, except I haven’t watched anything in ages. I haven’t started the new season of Handmaid’s Tale yet, and I think I’m two seasons behind now on Cobra Kai :O

    • Lisa Mandina

I’m kind of jealous that you have two seasons of Cobra Kai still to watch. It was so good! Hope you have a good week, thanks for visiting!

    • Lisa Mandina

I guess maybe it was just fate’s way of saying I didn’t need to go 4 times in a row, lol. Especially with only 2 authors I hadn’t met before. Even if they were ones I really wanted to meet.
