Weekly Wrap-Up #83 – September 4th, 2022

Posted September 4, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 34 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

Sunday I did some cleaning up around my house, because I’m thinking about refinancing my house to get some money out to pay off the debt from when I got my new AC and some credit cards. So Monday afternoon the appraiser is coming, and I just figured a cleaner house is better? I was so excited on Saturday when I was reading a book for a review that I soon realized the characters lived in Kansas City, Kansas, where I used to be a librarian. In fact the main character went to school at the school where I worked! I reached out to the author on Twitter and told her that, and told her if I was still in the district I’d definitely have reached out to have her come speak to our students. She said to see if there was anything I could do because she’d love to do that! I finished the book on Sunday for a review on Monday as part of a blog tour. Sunday night was the usually weekly dinner at my mom’s house with my brother’s family. I love getting to see my niece and nephew almost every week.

Monday, well let’s just say it sucked as much as last week. Did get a notification on Linked In that one of the libraries looked at my application. Had the appraiser come check out my house for the refinance I’m hoping to do. Although as I looked at the houses for sale around me on Sunday night, I’m afraid they won’t be able to do the refinance for what I’d hoped.

Tuesday was slightly calmer, but things are still complicated and I still feel like I’m juggling four or five things and not getting to even start any library stuff. And it felt like it should be Thursday already.

Wednesday was a tiny bit slower. Got more laptops to get handed out and we’re now below the 200 students needing laptops I think! However it was still a long day, even for our early release day we have every Wednesday. I went to my mom’s for leftovers from Sunday night dinner, then we went to a little food truck that my cousin’s step-daughter works for the bakery where she works. We had these cheesecake tacos that are delicious (last picture in the collage below)! (I stole this picture from their Facebook page!) They are called Muffin Top Bakery. lol

Thursday another day of trying to get laptops out, then running out of certain grades. Not to mention teachers kept sending students down to ask when we have asked the teachers to wait till we call them down. Ugh. So tired when I got home I just relaxed.

Friday was picture day in the library. I could barely hear myself think to try to get anything done. Spent the day working on laptops, then also trying to do some of the online scheduling for our long term suspension students. Which we already have over 30 if that give you an idea of the type of school/district where I am now. The online school, lead? I guess? sent me an email telling me to get like 10 students finished by the end of the day Friday. Students I did not have all the info I needed or what classes I needed to enroll them in. I was so angry, I mean she’s not my boss, that I had to leave the library for a while. I reached out to the administrator in our building that is in charge of this, and she had been on that email as well. When she was able to come talk to me, she said the same thing about that person not being my boss and that she shouldn’t be telling me those things. I’d intended to go to the movies, but just needed to be home in a quiet house with no one else around after the crazy picture day.

Saturday was a lovely day for sleeping in late. Which I did. At least until after 9 am when one of my dogs would not just lay back down. So I got up and did some blogging. In the afternoon I went with my mom and aunts to the local annual Santa-Cali-Gon Days. We like to go to the craft tents and have some yummy food from one of the booths. I got a few things. One was a fun wind type of ornament for my back yard (ignore the branch behind it that I still need to get cut up to move). One was a cute dachshund picture. And then I got two more of my favorite little hair products called EZ-buns. I like to just wrap my hair up after I wash it, and when I take it down it has nice curls in it!

Books Finished

Finished the first on Sunday for a blog tour review on Monday. The second I finished on Wednesday for a blog tour review on Thursday. Third I posted a review of yesterday. The fourth book I was supposed to read last week was a DNF.

New Additions to My Library

ARCs:

Got this ARC from the publisher, and it comes out in January, so look for a review from me close to that date!

This was from another publisher. It doesn’t come out till February. I read the last one in this series of short story anthologies called The Midnight Circus.

I enjoyed the first one last year called The Witch Haven. I love how the stars on the cover make a design! I didn’t really notice on the last one, I think it was the moon, but this one is cool! The publisher reached out and asked if I’d like to read the sequel and I said yes!

Audiobooks:

Used my month Audible credit for this one!

Bookish Stuff:

None

E-galleys:

This is one they changed the pub date, so I had to switch to just a promo. But they went ahead and sent me the e-galley, so I told them I am going to really try to read it, because I really want to try this one in the series, I mean, book boyfriend is in the title!

Free e-books:

Got the first one from the author’s newsletter. The second and third were free on Amazon.

Library books:

None

Physical books:

None

What I’m Watching

There are several shows that start in a couple weeks that I am so ready for! I was going back and rewatching Outlander from the start as a comfort watch with how crazy work has been and then I also found a new show when I turned on Netflix and really enjoyed what I’ve watched so far! It is called Fate: The Winx Saga.

Friday night with skipping a movie due to needing to be home in quiet and no people, I decided to give in and try a Hallmark movie. I chose this one, and it was good! The only thing missing from the Hallmark movies is the sex that is in the romance books I enjoy, and then it would be perfect, lol! I decided I wanted to give them a try after listening to a panel with Sierra Simone and Julie Murphy about their latest book and how they watch the movies. As well as other romance authors I love talking about the movies, like Meghan Quinn and her one series.

Coming Up Next Week on My Blog

The first two are ARCs I’ll be reviewing. The last one is for a blog tour review. I also have some book blitzes this week.

  1. Sorry work was so stressful. We looked into refinancing as well, but then decided to back out. It was $400 up front for the appraiser, and if we didn’t get the value we wanted, then we were out $400! Its all just too stressful!

Yeah, the first company I talked to wanted $500 up front for the appraiser. So when my current loan company reached out and said that would be taken care of and I would have to come up with any money up front, I decided to go with them. While I won’t end up with like two months of mortgage payments I don’t pay, just one because of how it all falls, that’s okay, I’d rather not have all that extra and just get it done like it should be. Thanks for stopping by!

I was all gung ho about the applications and getting them in, and then it’s like radio silence. Obviously either I don’t meet what they’re looking for, or they’re just not in the hurry I was kinda hoping about getting me hired and out of my miserable job right now. Thanks for visiting!

  2. I love it when a book’s set in my hometown or even state. I did read a cozy mystery series set in Kansas City- Julie Mulhern’s Country Club series- they’re set in the 70’s and are a riot. And that is so cool about the weekly dinners- nice you’re able to see them every week like that.

It is so much fun to read things set in my world I think! No Sunday dinner this week, but we’re doing a Labor Day cook out I think instead. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. It sounds like they want you to be more of an administrator than a librarian, and a low-level administrator at that. I’d be frustrated in your shoes too. I’m sorry and I hope it get better or that you can find a new better job.

Sorry the refinance may not be able to do what you want it to.

My older brother was born in Kansas City, but on the Missouri side. My parents were living in Lawrence at the time. My dad was getting his Master’s at one of the schools there. I’ve heard lots of stories about their life there. I’ve only been to Kansas City twice, once with my family and once for work.

I actually live and grew up on the Missouri side of KC. Just worked for about 8 years in KCK. Such a small world! It sounds like maybe the refinance will work out, so hoping that is true, need some good news with the craziness in the rest of my life. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. First off, your blog is so cute! I like the header.
I know the refi stuff can be a pain, hopefully you can get it sorted out where it benefits you. Craft fairs can be fun and the food is a plus. Now I’m craving sweets. Happy reading this week, I’ve been seeing Love on the Brain all over blogland.

    • Lisa Mandina

Thank you! I think the refi might end up being a good deal for me after all. I can’t wait to get to Love on the Brain, but it might be a while. Thanks for stopping by!

    • Lisa Mandina

That would be cool! We’ll see! The refi might not be too far off and I might still get a pretty good deal. We shall see! Thanks for visiting!

    • Lisa Mandina

They are delicious! And just found out the bakery is now doing cheesecake chimichangas which sounds just as good! Can’t wait to get to Love on the Brain. Thanks for visiting!

There is so much done in the library it’s crazy. I guess it is better than having it in the gym where there are classes, but it was so nice out I’m sure the PE classes had to have been outside. oh well. Thanks for visiting!

  5. Oh nice! I love going to little festivals or craft like fairs! There’s always interesting things to peruse!

Ooh nice haul too! Back in July I won an ARC of The Witch Hunt, but I’m still waiting on the book. This happened last time I won an ARC from this publisher too. Hoping since I see you got one, they might be sending mine soon! I’ll have to see if there’s a way to reach out to them through Goodreads as I started to doubt my contact email for them was any good or not.

Hope you enjoy all the fantastic new reads!

    Here’s my Monday Wrap-up

    Have a GREAT day!

It’s an annual tradition for my family, although last year we didn’t go when it was finally back after the pandemic. So I was excited my mom and aunts wanted to go this year. Interesting about The Witch Hunt. I had a connection at that publisher, but she had moved on now. Fortunately there are a couple that have my name there that still reach out to me. I hope your copy comes soon!

  6. I’m hoping so! When I checked Goodreads again & they mentioned contacting the publisher I had to wait 8-10 weeks first. I think when I counted I was reaching week 8. So I’ll give two more weeks & hopefully a button will appear for me. Lol.

  7. Sounds like another stressful week at work with the lack of laptops. 🙁 The pics from the food truck look amazing! I was so happy for the three day weekend. Today ended up being a busy one (errands for my mom) but at least I had the time for it. I’ve been seeing good reviews for that Helena Hunting book.

    • Lisa Mandina

Glad you had a good weekend! Yeah, I love Helena Hunting books, they all blow me away! Thanks for visiting!

    • Lisa Mandina

It was a cute movie! Pretty sure all that was missing for me was the sexy times that would have been in a book I’d have read with that story. lol

    • Lisa Mandina

The refi is going through this week! It’s going to be nice to have my credit cards and the loan for the new A/C wrapped up into my mortgage so I can not stress about them and also be able to put the interest in my taxes, the lower interest rate too! Thanks for visiting!
