Blurb:

Fans of 1990’s shows like Dawson’s Creek and Friends will love this throwback rom-com!

From insta-lover to insta-enemy. All that, and a bag of chips.

In a sleepy southern coastal town crowned the Hollywood of the East, worlds collide, and sparks fly when fate has two TV casting directors acting as accidental rivals.

It’s not just that the town isn’t quite big enough for the two of them. Violet Davenport brings deep roots, local allies, and old-fashioned Southern charm to the table. Nate Fowler’s got deep pockets, tech knowhow, and a family that’s been in the biz since the silent film days.

For their businesses—and their hearts—to survive, they’ll have to overcome both a bitter hostility and a sweet insta-temptation.

In this enemies-to-lovers, new-in-town, one-night-stand unlikely love story, a girl boss and a Hollywood bad boy find that you only get as good as you give.

My Review

I loved this jump forward for this author’s series into the 90s. While I’ve never actually watched Dawson’s Creek, I enjoyed the way the author kind of drew on that type of show for the tv series being filmed in the town where this book takes place. I also like that we had a connection to one of the characters from her Boston Classics series, from the first of Grey’s books I read actually, Forget About Me.

The characters were all ones I was ready to find out more about their lives, especially the group of friends I assume the series will follow. And I’m guessing that we’ll get a little bit of a more unusual romance with how there was a bit of a triangle between three of the friends. I did love the 90s aspects of the story. The pagers, the fact that most people in places other than California don’t have cell phones. There was a line during one of the steamy scenes or flirting scenes, I forget which, but it was a cringy line that I kinda wish Violet had called Nate out for.

Nate was really a good guy. Even when he did things that caused issues, it was obvious it wasn’t malevolent and he made up for it right away. So it made it easy to fall in love with him. However, my biggest issue with the audiobook was that the male narrator’s voice just didn’t work for me for a surfer type of guy, or a younger type of guy. The narrator didn’t do a bad job at all, his voice just didn’t make me think of a hunky guy. I have no idea what the actual narrator looks like, but the voice just sounded too much like an older guy for me. It’s crazy how voices are. I’m always off on what people look like if I just hear their voices. I remember the first time I saw a local radio DJ in person and they looked NOTHING like what their voice made me think they would look like. lol I love that there is even a book in the author’s first series that kind of touches on this whole aspect!

Overall I loved the book and am so eager for more in the series!

You should give it a try then! I think since it is a fake show like that being filmed in the town it will be in all the books in the series!
