Weekly Wrap-Up #76 – July 17th, 2022

Posted July 17, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 32 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

I cannot believe we are halfway through July. And, 10 days from now I have to be back at work! And we’re in the miserable summer heat right now. Although the beginning of the week wasn’t horrible.

Monday was a day of resting and trying to get back into the swing of life in the real world after the weekend of the Book Bonanza convention. It’s such a crazy, wonderful, busy time, that being back home, while nice, I also kind of felt like I crashed a bit emotionally. Not sure why, I had a great time. But Monday was a rough day for me. I also realized just how much money I spent, and that was crazy! I did a post earlier this week that you can check out for more info on the whole Book Bonanza thing.

Tuesday was a kind of wasted day. I mean I got the yard mowed. And I got pictures taken for the Book Bonanza post, but didn’t actually get the post done. I am trying to spend more time sitting with my dogs and playing with them than in the past. The friend’s daughter who stayed with them while I was out of town spent a lot of her time just sitting and petting them and playing with them.

Wednesday I started working on my Book Bonanza post, but it took a long time! And I had plans to go have lunch with a friend and then have a writing date at the same time. I didn’t get much writing done, but read through some books to help me get planned, and got a tiny bit of planning done. I actually finished a book finally too. I need to get back into my reading schedule or I’ll get behind again.

Thursday I had my step-dad come over to look at my washer for me before I call on the warranty. While it seemed he fixed whatever was making the water go in slower, the pump is still running at times when the washer isn’t running. I finished my Book Bonanza post finally!

Friday I got up and went to the movies! Then I took my mom to check out a local antique/flea market location where my mom is thinking about getting a booth to sell the craft stuff she does. Her online site is here: babyKAMP. She took over the name from someone several years ago, she’s always sewn and done crafts. But this brand name is kinda cool because sometimes she gets to make things for the wife of an NFL coach for NFL players’ babies. Not that she knows names for sure of who they are! But it’s kinda cool. Another miserable hot day though. So hot that when you spend much time outside you just want to come back in and take a nap.

Saturday when I took the dogs out first thing in the morning it was a really stifling warm, and it only got hotter throughout the day. Of course my pain in the butt dogs wanted to go out constantly. Since they’re small dogs, I won’t leave them outside alone, even with the fenced yard. Both are about 8 pounds, and a large bird could get them, it’s been known to happen. So I’m just too paranoid for that. They looked at me like I was being mean when I told them no. I could have left the house, but I didn’t want to go spend money. Oh, and really cool newsletter I got from one of my favorite authors, Erin Mallon. She had a picture of me at Book Bonanza with her showing my tumbler I got made from her book Flirtasaurus in her newsletter.

The first pic isn’t my tumbler, but the second two are me with Erin Mallon and a close up of my tumbler!

Books Finished

I just got the e-galley of the first one this week, and decided to go ahead and fit it in before my next scheduled book since I’d had a bunch of books change dates. The second one is an ARC I got through a trade on Twitter. Read it and loved it! Could barely put it down!

New Additions to My Library

ARCs:

I got this through a trade on Twitter. They also have the new Kendare Blake BTVS ARC, but they weren’t quite ready to trade it yet.

Audiobooks:

The first two were part of the Sync summer free audiobooks last week and I forgot to share I think. The third one was from Sync this week and you can get it this week for free, until Thursday, if you go sign up HERE. The fourth was on sale on Audible for less than $5, and since I’ve enjoyed a book by this author narrated by Wil Wheaton, I thought I’d go ahead and grab it for that price.

Bookish Stuff:

You can see all the Book Bonanza stuff in that post! I also got a fun little bookmark and postcard from the author of Love Times Infinity.

E-galleys:

I seem to be on Julia Kent’s ARC list, because I got the first one even though I don’t think I signed up. I did read the little novella starter, and I ordered the first book in the series, but haven’t had time to read it yet. Since I had a few review books get postponed or cancelled, or one I found out I hadn’t actually signed up for, I went ahead and started reading it this week. And I am so happy to be on Tara Sivec’s ARC team now too, because I just got the second one and can’t wait to read it! The third one is also for a review tour next week. The fourth one is for a blog tour review the beginning of August I believe. There is another e-galley that was sent but hasn’t gone through as of Saturday night, so I’ll save it till next week’s post!

Free E-books:

Last one was from signing up from an author’s newsletter, the others were free on Amazon.

Physical books:

Well, of course look back at my Book Bonanza post from earlier this week, I’m not going to share all those again. 🙂 And one book that was not necessarily BB related was my friend who went on the trip with me, just for her to have writing time, gave me a copy of her latest book.

I also won another book from the YA Books Central website. Looking forward to reading this one, although I will probably put it in my school library before I get to it.

What I’m Watching

I am still watching Evil, and it gets weirder every week, but still good! It was funny to hear one of the authors on a rom-com panel at Book Bonanza say it was her “dark” tv show. I was one of few others that had heard of it and watched it. Finished Heartstopper as well, and oh my gosh was it so good! I was crying a lot the last couple episodes. I also went and saw the new Thor: Love and Thunder movie this week. Really enjoyed it!

It’s my laundry washer, so it’s important to have clothes! Yeah, the pods are easier I think.

  1. I went to BB in 2019 right after we moved to this house. It was fun but my favorite Con was NOLAStorycon (2016) which was mostly UF authors like Ilona Andrews, Jeaniene Frost, Kelley Armstrong, Kevin Hearne, Molly Harper, Melissa Marr, Lauren Adrian, Rachel Vincent and more. But right now I’m not comfortable going to them anyway. It’s a challenge to choose cooler times to do the yard work. I can’t believe it’s so close to the start of school. Hope you have a good reading week and get the washer figured out.

I was at that BB too. I went to NOLA StoryCon that year too! I went to see Jennifer Lynn Armentrout and I found a bunch of new favorites when I was preparing ahead of time for that, Samantha Young, Jay Crownover are a few that I found and fell in love with! Then I went to Apollycon the next year I think. I can totally see not being comfortable yet, as many people as there were too! Although this year they had the bigger room for the signing and I felt a lot less crowded in there with everyone being able to be spread out so much more than in 2019. I’m actually ready for the part of summer where I don’t have to mow every week. Hoping that starts this week! Of course, that also means we’re not getting much rain either.

      • Lisa Mandina

That was my first time reading them before that one, and then I just fell in love with their books!

  2. The Book Bonanza sounds like it was an amazing experience! I love all the swag and books! I’ve never been to anything like that, unfortunately. I know what you mean about little dogs being outside alone. We have a nine pound chihuahua, and she never goes out on her own. There are hawks that hover around our house, and I’m too afraid they’ll grab her. Enjoy your upcoming week!

You need to check out a book convention at least once in your life! There are so many cool ones out there. Yeah, you understand with a chihuahua what I worry about with my miniature dachshunds! Have a great week!

  3. The bookbonanza sounds good. A bit of an up and down week for you then. I would get paranoid with letting dogs out. I don’t have any pets, but I can imagine! A good lot of books there too. I want to read The Bodyguard.

    Have a great week!

  4. I’m sorry the summer is flying by and that you have to be back to work in 10 days. I really hope it will be less stressful during this upcoming year. *fingers crossed* For now, I hope you enjoy your last 10 days of no work! 😀

Thanks! I’m hoping this year will be easier. At least it will be a little since it’s not my first year in a new school for sure.

    • Lisa Mandina

It is so much of a downer right after! Although this is the first time I think I’ve had it that bad.

  5. I’m so glad you enjoyed Book Bonanza! Your post was wonderful and made me want to go. I’m so sorry about all the heat you have over there. I also loved The Bodyguard, such a great book.

Technically it is just me going back because I have 10 extra days on my contract, so school doesn’t start for a week or two after I start back. Last year with it being my first year in the district it was interesting, but we’ll see how it goes this year with a whole library to unpack and who knows if it is finished yet!

    • Lisa Mandina

To be fair I have 10 extra days before everyone else, and I do get paid extra for them, but it makes for a short summer!

    • Lisa Mandina

Well, I do have 10 extra days on my contract, so I’ll be back before other teachers have to be there. Although when I was a teacher I started going in early to get ready.

  6. I can believe your Book Bonanza post took a long time. It was awesome and it showed. I’ve yet to read anything by Katherine Center but I have several friends who inhale everything she writes. The Bodyguard is getting so many raves. I see two different hockey romances up there and that definitely gets my attention! 🙂
