Weekly Wrap-Up #74 – July 3rd, 2022

Posted July 3, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 43 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer) and with Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Reading Reality).

June is over, and it is July! Where did it go? I was so excited for the book convention I have next weekend, but I guess I should have been patient, because now it also means my summer break is half over. I am looking forward to my family’s 4th of July get together tomorrow at my brother’s house too!

Monday was a kind of slow day. I went and had breakfast at Panera and took my laptop and just got some blogging and things done that are harder to do at home. Plus I didn’t have anything to eat at home for breakfast. It was another day that was nice weatherwise, in the low 80s. Then I went and saw a movie that night.

Tuesday I headed out and had breakfast at IHOP and enjoyed their Minion breakfast items. Then I had to drive to my last school district to get some paperwork filled out. The weather was back to upper 80s and normal summer heat, so it was nice to stay inside most of the day. I had the guy come take care of the big branches that had fallen in the couple of storms we had since he’d cleaned my yard up back at the beginning of June.

Wednesday I had a dental cleaning at 10 am. Then had to go see my endocrinologist about some bloodwork. She also did a sonogram on my thyroid. It was weird, I’ve always had to go to like a radiology place for that, but she did it herself in the office. She didn’t find any changes, so just did more bloodwork to compare the numbers to those from February. Depending on what they say, I may have to start medication for my thyroid. Other than that I hung out around my house with the dogs for the day.

Thursday I got up and started some blogging and more preparations for Book Bonanza next week. Saw a couple narrators I was excited to meet are no longer attending. Sad face. But I did get my end of June post finished and posted. Decided to DNF a book I’d started yesterday because it just wasn’t holding my attention, and as I’ve said before, too many other books to read to waste time on something I’m not enjoying. I also finished watching the Amazon Prime series The Summer I Turned Pretty. And oh my gosh, that last episode was so sad! And then the very end made me so mad! I need to read the books since I don’t know if I can wait for the second season I guess.

Friday the plan was to take my niece and nephew to see the new Minions movie. Neither have really been big movie fans, it used to be a joke with my niece about asking her to go see a movie with me and she never wanted to. My nephew has kind of been the same way. But when I told him I was taking his sister to the movie, he decided he wanted to go too. Most of the previews were kids’ movies. But they did have one for Thor, it was much tamer than others I’ve seen though. My nephew, he’s 4 years old, covered his eyes during that because it was too scary. There was actually one part in the Minions movie I thought was kind of scary so I leaned over and asked him if he was okay, if it was too scary, and he told me it was okay because the minions would be there to save them. LOL He also kept telling me after that it was a really good movie!

Saturday morning I woke up to a little rain, no big storms. But when I took the dogs out, I found that another branch had fallen out of the tree from last time. And I could see where at least one branch was split and now is hanging down. I guess maybe it must have gotten damaged in some of the last storms, but now any wind or rain is knocking branches down that were maybe hanging there?

Books Finished

Finished the first one and reviewed it on Monday. The second one was an audiobook novella that I finished up early in the week. The third was a review book that I had to back off of last month I think and had some time to finish and did! Sadly the author is having to postpone the rest of the series till 2023. And the fourth book was a review novella that I read in a day, posted my review on Friday. The 5th book is one that I read in between review books, instead of a DNF I had, and also meets one of my challenge goals! The 6th book is for a review this week. It was one I sped through to finish because it wasn’t bad, but I had some issues with it. Since it was for a tour I went ahead and finished it so I could review it though.

New Additions to My Library

ARCs:

None

Audiobooks:

These two were part of the Sync summer free audiobooks. You can get them this week for free, until Thursday, if you go sign up HERE.

Bookish Stuff:

I got the blog button stickers I ordered from Shutterfly! Also the last of the 5 freebies I got came, a little notebook with my blog button on the cover.

I also bought a smaller rolling cooler to take with me for my road trip to Book Bonanza next weekend. I keep saying I need one, and then I saw this cute pinkish colored one at Target and gave in and bought it. You can see one of my dogs on the side sitting up to check out what might be on top of it, which was nothing. lol

E-galleys:

This is for a blog tour later this month.

Free (or cheap) E-books:

The first one was pretty cheap, but only available through the SmartyPants Romance because it is considered just fanfiction and takes the universe in a different direction that what it is standard for. I started reading in the email newsletters, but just gave in and bought it. The second was through a newsletter for The Steamy Book Club I think, third one was for signing up for the author’s newsletter. The rest were free on Amazon.

Physical Books:

I purchased this a couple weeks ago before the 100 days of summer writing challenge. Now to find time to read it!

What I’m Watching

I’m continuing with Evil and The Summer I Turned Pretty tv series. Monday night I went to see a scary movie called The Black Phone. It was really good and I loved seeing previews for more horror movies coming soon!

Friday afternoon I took my niece and nephew to see the Minions movie. It was fun, and I love the whole Mini-boss!

And I almost forgot the final episodes of Stranger Things season 4 hit Netflix.

Giveaways:

Final Thoughts

  1. I hope you have fun at your book convention. I’m sorry that it means your summer vacation’s halfway over, though. That’s always so hard to think about. I feel the same way about the seasons, lol. Whenever June 21 comes, I always think, “Well, we’re on the downward slope back to winter.” LOL. This year, I’ve tried to not think about it and enjoy the moment. It’s helped. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Sadly, what made me most excited about June 21st is that the daylight is going to start shortening now. I’m ready for it to get dark earlier so I can go to bed at the time I like. lol Thanks for returning the visit!

Oh he is so goofy! Can’t wait to see how he grows up and whether that sense of humor continues or not, lol.

    • Lisa Mandina

I haven’t read it either, although now I kind of want to. I actually went and looked spoilers up because I have to know who she will end up with!

  2. Sounds like a nice weekend! I can’t remember the last time I went to the movie theater. Even before Covid, I would only go if there was one I reallllly wanted to see! As it is, there are still ones I really want to see but still haven’t even rented! Lol. Of course the ones I want to see don’t end up on Netflix or Disney+. Sigh.

Nice looking reads too! All new to me ones! I hope you enjoy the new reads and enjoy your reads lined up for this week!

    Here’s my Monday Wrap-up

    Have a GREAT day!

I’ve always been a big movie-goer, have the A-List pass for the AMC theaters so I can see up to 3 movies a week for free. And it doesn’t matter what theater, so I can go see the IMAX or 3-D whatever I want! T

    • Lisa Mandina

I wasn’t going to get it, they aren’t real cheap, but then I remembered how many times I keep saying I need one and having to borrow one, so I figured I’d give in and get it.

      • Oh that’s awesome! I use to go to the movies a lot “back in the day!” But lately I’ve been so behind that I just end up waiting for it to come to one of the streaming services I subscribe to or Red Box it. Lol.

        • Lisa Mandina

I need to remember about what movies I didn’t get to see at the theater so I can stream them! I started making a note in my phone just about that. lol

          • My problem tends to be trying to find the time for a 2+ hour movie. I need to just start playing them while I work on my blog posts instead of waiting until I finish writing them! Lol. I’m behind by like 4 Marvel movies I think, but I don’t think Disney+ has the new Spiderman one yet, so that’s another I’ll have to get from Red Box I’m sure!

          • Lisa Mandina

My problem is kind of similar in that I rarely seem to want to completely put my phone down when I’m home in the evening, so I want things on I can have in the background like reruns, etc. Going to the theater helps with that. lol 🙂 I loved the newest Spiderman and Doctor Strange! I can’t wait for the new Thor movie, but it will have to wait till I get back from Book Bonanza.

Lots of good authors in that box set! I’m excited to go, first one since 2019 of course!

  3. We are just relaxing for the 4th. My daughter is working and the rest of us are just chilling. Usually, we are out of town but since we just got back from vacation we are enjoying the downtime. Have a great week.

Downtime is nice too! It’s always pretty relaxed at my brother’s, just my immediate family really, and then only one aunt and her husband came. No cousins this year.

    • Lisa Mandina

It was! I love the Minions and it feels like I’ve been waiting on this movie forever!

    • Lisa Mandina

I went out to grab lunch today, and the parking lot of the fast food place was packed and my first thought was, “don’t these people have to work?” lol Like only teachers should have summer days off. Then I realized how silly a thought that was.

  4. Hope you had a great time at the family gathering on the 4th! I’m so impressed at how you seem to blog ahead so often. I am the worst at that. I’m always scrambling to write a post at the last possible minute. lol I got happy when I saw you downloaded Bountiful. I adore Bowen’s True North series. Hope you’re having a great week, Lisa! 🙂

    • Lisa Mandina

Once in a while I have time to do it. But then I get bad about going and commenting or don’t get as much read because I’m on the computer so much. lol I wish I was better! I’ve started immediately getting the next week’s wrap-up post read as soon as the next week starts and adding to it as the week goes. Makes the end of the week much easier! Glad to hear Bountiful is good! Can’t wait till I have time to read it.

  5. Enjoy your book convention, I went to a book signing the year before covid hit and shut everything down and would love to go to another one.
I hope you can make your tree safe -falling branches do worry me. Enjoy your books, what a great selection of arcs and freebies you have!

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, I haven’t been since before Covid. So ready to be back and seeing authors! After I get back from the convention I’ve got a bunch of things to get done on my house before I’m back to school. The tree branch is on that list!

  6. We rent our house out while we’re traveling. Our tenant reached out last week to say that she thinks we need to cut a tree down because it doesn’t look safe. We got one guy out to give us an estimate. He agrees that it needs to come down but holy moly, the cost! We’re getting someone else out for another estimate. We’ll take care of it because we definitely don’t want anyone to get hurt but we aren’t made of money either. I hope your tree is easier to deal with.

I’m glad your nephew enjoyed The Minions movie! We love the minions ourselves and don’t even have kids. We’ll watch it at some point. I think we’re going to watch the last episode (let’s just call it a movie) of Stranger Things tonight. We’ll see if I can make it through 2.5 hours. I read “The Black Phone” in 20th Century Ghosts but I can’t remember it at all. I’m sure I’ll watch it eventually.

Have a great time at the Book Bonanza!

It’s so expensive for tree work! And mine are inside my back yard, so if I was going to get someone to come in and take it down, there isn’t an easy way to get equipment in. Ugh. Enjoy Stranger Things!
