Wyatt King isn’t looking for love…because he’s already found it.
Too bad she’s off-limits. He’s not going to be the jerk who messes around with his best friend’s little sister, so he keeps his feelings bottled up and settles for acting as her protector instead.
Andie Lockhart’s dreamed of kissing Wyatt for as long as she’s known what kissing is. But since he’s dated nearly every woman in town but her, she’s long since accepted he’ll never see her as anything more than his best friend’s tomboy little sister.
When a real estate developer threatens the beloved old house Andie inherited from her grandmother, her white knight Wyatt swoops in with his handyman skills to save the day. But the more time they spend working on the house together, the harder it becomes to ignore their irresistible attraction.
Until the night an accidental kiss blows the lid off those feelings they’ve both kept buried.
After that, things between them get a lot hotter—and a lot more complicated. Forbidden love, broken promises, family secrets, and jealousy all threaten to tear them apart. If he intends to hold on to the woman he loves, Wyatt will have to put everything on the line.
My Cone and Only is book #1 in the King Family series set in the small town of Crowder, Texas, home of the King’s Creamery ice company. Each book is a standalone, full-length novel that follows one of the six King siblings as they find and fight for love.
So, I’d given this author a try with an audiobook back in 2019 through the Audible Escape program, Remedial Rocket Science, but I had to quit it really quickly because of the character’s hatred of my favorite tv show, The Big Bang Theory. However when I saw the author was giving away this book, I did enter, to give her books another chance, because they always sound so good! And let me tell you how glad I am that I did, because I LOVED this one! I picked it up for my TBR challenge, because I won it from the author last year, and I’m trying to read the books I’ve got sitting on my shelves more since I have a whole bookcase full of unread books. Plus this author is going to be at a book convention this summer I’m attending.
I picked it up and couldn’t put it down! It had great characters, great world-building, can’t wait for more stories in this series, and I know there are already more out. I loved the connection between our couple. They had a great relationship and also good reasons, or sort of good reasons for not being together. But when they gave in, it was perfect. We got some steamy scenes, and also some sweet scenes. There was fun banter, a favorite part of rom-coms for me. And the last “darkest night” moment was perfect. It was done in a way that didn’t seem to be over the top drama just for drama’s sake, and that made this book a perfect 5 stars for me.
Also, I always love the punny titles that cozy mysteries have, but I don’t really read those, so the title of this was a perfect draw for me as well!
Nice review. I really enjoyed Remedial Rocket Science (sorry!). I do love the Big Bang Theory. Susannah Nix is a wonderful writer. I’ll have to check this one out.
I probably would have really liked the book if it hadn’t started off maligning my favorite show before I got to know and like the characters, lol. I’ll probably read the rest in that series and maybe even try that one again. This one was really good though!
You have such lovely books are your blog. I checked out this newest one, hope to see more.
I love that you gave the author another chance and found yourself enjoying this book so much! The ice creamery aspect has me sold and it sounds like it is perfect for summer. I’ll have to keep an eye out for this one! 🙂
I may even go back and read the original one I DNFed because maybe if I read the book I can quickly skip past the part that made me give up last time, lol.
