Weekly Wrap-Up #65 – May 1st, 2022

Posted May 1, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 20 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer) and with Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Reading Reality).

A crazy busy week. Monday got lots of packing done in the library. But then the rest of the week there were End of Course exams in the library so we couldn’t do much of that.

Tuesday and Wednesday about all we got done with the boxing/packing/weeding/discarding was taking the books that I pulled to discard and getting them pulled from the system and then covering barcodes and stamping discarded. On Thursday I went out into the stacks and did some more weeding. No more packing for the moment though. Sadly with all the testing and the library being closed I didn’t get to do much promotion for Poem in your Pocket day on Friday as part of National Poetry month. But I’ll share my favorite poem that I did carry in my pocket all day Friday:

Friday was a long day. They’re doing make up EOC tests in the library, so it’s only a few students at a time, but we still have to keep it closed. And it’s going to last all of next week too, ugh. Then right after school I took my dogs to the vet for their annual shots. It was great to hear that my little Dora who is 11 years old is doing really well for that age. The vet even said her heart sounded really good. Both of my dogs were great for the whole visit. Argyle didn’t even bark at everyone and every other dog like he usually does anywhere we go.

Books finished

The first two were for author ARC team reviews this past week. The third one was an audiobook that I loved! The fourth was also for a blog tour review this past week.

New Additions to my library

ARCs:

I think this ARC came because I had reached out to possibly be a part of the RockStar book tour this summer. Not sure, but so excited for it!

Audiobooks:

Well after listening to The Kaiju Preservation Society I wondered if Wil Wheaton narrated any other of John Scalzi’s books. And when I went to Audible to add them to my wishlist, these two were on sale, one for $4 and one for $5, so I bought them because I’d wanted to read those. At some point I’ll get the Red Shirts audiobook probably too, but it wasn’t really on much of a sale, so I’ll wait.

This one I’m listening to for a blog tour in a couple weeks.

Bookish Stuff:

None

E-galleys:

None

Free E-books:

I think all three of these were free on Amazon this past week.

Physical Books:

So I might have done a little damage with the whole Barnes & Noble pre-order deal last week. Also one of my favorite authors had a cool swag contest if you pre-ordered her book. It is an author I usually review for, but didn’t this time because of how busy I am with the SmartyPants Romance reviews right now. So I pre-ordered that book and it came as well. I own physical copies of all the books by Piper Sheldon in the SPR Universe, and all the Library series in the SPR as well. So I went ahead and did the pre-order since I knew I’d have to own them too.

What I’m Watching

Wow to the Outlander episodes the last couple of weeks. And then this week’s Survivor was so intense and emotional. I was thinking exactly what Drea was thinking when she walked in and saw who had been voted out with the group before at the Tribal Council. There was so much important and good done in that council. I get why Jonathan at first felt like he did, but I like that he listened to Drea and Maryanne and then realized what he had wrong. And someone pointed out that the second 365 Days movie came out. So I watched that. The beginning was kind of no story it seemed, just all sexy stuff. But the mafia family stuff came out soon enough. So I finished it.

Giveaways to enter

Well my new monthly giveaway won’t start till tomorrow, so check back for that one then!

Yep! Glad they’re doing well and that school is almost over so I can hang out with them more!

  1. I love that little poem. Hopefully you will have your library back at some point! I’ve not read an Adriana Locke book in a while, I have several on my kindle that I need to get to. Hope you enjoy it and happy reading.

Only another week of testing. But then it will be all packing pretty much! This is my second full length Adriana Locke book. So far so good!

  2. Is the library closing just because it’s the end of the school year? I’ve always wondered this about teachers and librarians who don’t have students during the summer … do you still get paid your regular salary? Or do you have to find a part-time job during the summer to help make ends meet? If you don’t want to answer, you don’t have to obviously.

What they do for our salary, is they take it and spread it over the 12 months, even the 2 in the summer that we’re not working. So technically we get paid in the summer, but it is just because they split our 10 month salary over 12 months. My library is closed now for testing, and then this summer they are doing renovations, so I have to pack everything up.

I have a copy in my bathroom by the mirror and try to read it every morning as short as it is to remind myself to have a good day.

Can’t wait to listen to those! Probably on one of my trips where I’ll be driving by myself this summer.
