Weekly Wrap-Up #64 – April 24th, 2022

Posted April 24, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 24 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer) and with Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Reading Reality).

My Easter Sunday was kind of boring, but relaxed for the most part. I spent most of it reading. But then in the afternoon, I all of a sudden ended up with a case of vertigo. So even though it wasn’t a traditional Easter dinner at my mom’s, I canceled and just tried to deal with that.

Monday I went on in to work even though I still had the vertigo. Because really just laying around makes it worse. Even with the vertigo I got a bit done, and it was nice for me and my library clerk to be able to work. I got to go over to my mom’s for dinner in the evening to make up for what I missed Sunday night.

Tuesday they pulled my library clerk to cover secretaries for half the day, and I had to go cover a class. I mean, what did they do the whole time she was gone? They should still be doing that as much as we have to do in my library. My vertigo was so close to being gone on Tuesday, just once in a while when I’d turn my head a certain way or bend down and then stand back up too fast. My ears felt a little clogged up too, which isn’t always normal during my vertigo spells.

Wednesday we were kind of busy in the library, had a class in there so we had to be quiet and couldn’t do much packing while they were there.

Thursday my library clerk had to leave halfway through the day to take her son to the doctor again. But we got a lot done before she left. Well, we got a lot done, but there are still TONS of books to be packed. And I’ve got a lot of weeding/discarding to do.

Friday kind of the same as Thursday. Library clerk had to leave halfway through the day for the same thing. She got a lot of boxes made up before she left though! I got about 10 more boxes filled, and a bunch more books weeded/discarded. Oh yeah, here are pictures of my poetry display, lol, now that the month is almost over.

The bottom picture shows the whole thing. The top 3 pictures are of all the teachers’ poems they shared, and then the fourth is my favorite. The 5th and 6th are some little displays within the display.

Saturday was a quiet day around the house mostly. Going through some things to put some winter stuff away and get out some more spring/summery stuff now that the temps are getting in the 70s and 80s more. Then that evening was Prom. Dumb me signed up to do this as a chaperone instead of graduation, because I hate graduation, and I assumed the dance would be near the school. Instead it was at a banquet area near a downtown area where I had to pay for parking in a garage because I wasn’t leaving my car out on the street. Not only because of possible damage or break-ins, but because the weather was possibly going to be bad. It was a long night, and by the end my feet hurt from standing. But it is always fun to see the kids all dressed up. Some really pretty dresses! And I also thought it was nice to see some of the special ed kids actually came and they had a blast! It did rain right at the end and the little balcony area that I’d been supervising cleared out of students at that point. Here are the two pictures I took early on in the evening.

Books Finished

First is the book I got kind of stuck halfway through when I got vertigo. It was good, but not exactly what I was thinking it would be, so it was a little bit slower for me. The second I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to fit in, but because I’m on the author’s review team, I get all her books to read. It was a good quick read, with a cliffhanger, I didn’t realize it wasn’t going to be a standalone. The third one was another SmartyPants Romance book, review coming up this week!

New Additions to My Library

ARCs:

None

Audiobooks:

None

Bookish Stuff:

None

E-galleys:

Both for upcoming reviews. The second one we got a little late and the author is releasing early, so it will be a rush to read and review! But Hart’s books are always easy to read. Also I am on the other author’s review team, so yeah, you know I’ll love it!

Free E-books:

I think the first two were free on Amazon, not sure about the third one. The second one sounds good, but that cover, I’m not a fan. I hate the whole underwear sticking out above the top of the jeans and the jeans sagging. Not sure a cop would actually dress like that. And the guy’s head looks like a weird hair trim.

Physical Books:

This one I bought with some Discover cashback credit. I have the first one in the series as an ARC, the third one as a hardback, and had no physical copy of this one. Now I have the whole set!

I got this finished copy for a RockStar blog tour review from the publisher. I always like ARCs and then I’ll buy a copy for my school library. But in this case, since I love this author, I’ll be keeping this finished copy instead of giving it to my school library.

I bought this at the Dollar Tree store. Patty Blount is the author I got to have a Zoom call with after bidding on her giveaway in a charity auction. I hadn’t read her before, but knew of her books, so was excited to get to pick her brain on writing. Now I need to read her books!

What I’m Watching

I continued watching The Underground Railroad, and was a little confused when the 7th episode ended really quickly. But I guess it was only 20 minutes! No new Outlander this week sadly. Continuing to rewatch Stranger Things as well. I never saw the first Doctor Strange movie, but I saw something that suggested what other movies/shows should be watched before the new movie comes out. I intend to try to watch the first movie, but am also starting this show, although I’m not a big cartoon fan these days. I’ve watched the first episode so far.

I did go ahead and watch the first Doctor Strange movie Friday night. And it turns out I did really enjoy it! And I’m guessing the extra scene at the very end is the villain we will see in the second movie coming out this year. The cape part in the battle made me giggle.

Giveaways to Enter

Final Thoughts

How was your week? Did you read or watch anything good? Get any good books? Did you have a nice Easter if you celebrated?

And, since this past week was the 2nd anniversary of me self-publishing my novella, I decided to put it on sale, FREE, for the next 5 days. You can download the Kindle book HERE. It’s always free in Kindle Unlimited too! I really just would like some reviews, even bad ones! I had talked about a friend who posted one for me, that was really good. But then he took it down, I don’t know why. Sadly. So now I am back to no reviews. And I just want good or bad ones. So feel free to download, read it, and bash it, or tell me what was good! 🙂 I am actually thinking of entering it in the Inkitt contest too this month.

I hate graduations. They are long, and the speakers are boring, and I just hate them. Prom at least has food and drink and is a relaxed atmosphere with no practice to make sure everyone walks in a certain way and sits a certain place. But that’s me! Prom is a fun energy too. The vertigo was not fun, but is mostly gone except occasionally when I turn over to one side in the bed at night. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Vertigo is no fun. Sorry that happened. I used to get it a lot but have been lucky lately not so much. Knock on wood…

Otterly Into You looks cute 🙂

I’ve been curious about What If…

So far What If has definitely been interesting! I think you might like it! Unfortunately I seem to be getting Vertigo more often these days.

  2. I’m not a fan of graduation either. I used to pick the Christmas dance as my chaperone duty every year-kids wore christmas stuff, we played christmas music, and there was hot chocolate! At my current school, we are not required to do a chaperone duty. Have a great week!

We had to sign up for two things at the beginning of the year. At my last school we didn’t have to do anything but graduation. Anything else we got paid extra for.

There are supposedly some sort of maneuvers you can do, but I don’t think I can do them right by myself. My doctor is finally taking it a bit seriously and is going to have me see a specialist.

I went to one prom. Only went because my mom told me if I said yes to the guy who asked me she would buy me the dress I liked. I don’t remember much about it. lol It was that boring.

  3. I love your photos, the book/poem display is amazing and the city view is so beautiful. I hate it when I get to the end of a book and discover it’s a cliff-hanger. I don’t mind if I know going in, but I don’t like them being a surprise!

  4. Sorry about your Easter! Our local schools usually have prom in mid May. Do the students completely check out after prom?

Yesterday I was thinking about putting my winter clothes away, then I saw Wednesday was a high of 38.

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, not sure why it is in April, but it was a beautiful night for it, so that was nice! Oh yeah, it was 35 here this morning! I’m so tired of the cold!

  5. OOh nice! Sounds like a decent week, and the view from your prom supervising is amazing! I’m not one for downtown things either, so kudos for surviving that! Lol.

Nice new reads! I’m curious about Bravely and wishing now that I signed up for Rockstars tour for it as I passed when the opportunity came up. Hope you enjoy the new reads!

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, I’m excited for it! I am a few books behind with Stiefvater, but figured this one would be a good one to jump in on! I do love retellings like this.

    • Lisa Mandina

Eh, wasn’t much food or drinks. Some cupcakes, cookies, soda, lemonade, and water. I guess there was also some kind of potato appetizer, but I didn’t really try that. The dresses were fun!

I wish, I can’t really do the nasal sprays. I am hoping to go see a specialist this summer, just have to make it that long!
