Weekly Wrap-Up #59 – March 20th, 2022

Posted March 19, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 24 Comments

Since St. Patrick’s was this past week I’m using this image again! Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer) and with Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Reading Reality).

Another week without my assistant, will try not to complain too much this time. I did mention to the assistant principal about my concern that they won’t get me any sub or anything while she’s gone. He said he would also mention it to the principal, but he doubted, like I do, that anything can/will be done.

Sunday night after we had move the clocks forward for Daylight Savings, for some reason I couldn’t seem to get to sleep. One of my dogs started having some tummy issues about halfway through the night too, so I also was worried about her and that didn’t help me get much sleep either.

Monday I kept checking the camera I have on the dogs while I was at work to make sure she didn’t seem to be getting sick. At home that night she slowly seemed to be getting more like normal. Although the other dog was eating grass right after I got home. By the end of the evening she seemed mostly back to her normal self. I did get another display done. March is national crafting month. I didn’t find a ton of crafting books in my library, but I pulled together what I could for this small display:

Tuesday, another day like the rest at school by myself. My dog Dora seemed to be back to normal by the time I got home. Spent the evening reading to get ready for a review I had to have ready to go Wednesday morning.

Wednesday, got some things done in my library, more weeding, etc. Since I’d had some issues with my usual hairdresser when I saw her back at the beginning of the year, I’d made an appointment to see one of my college sorority sisters who actually does hair at a salon only a block or less away from my house. I’m satisfied with what she did. She had some things to fix from my last appointment with my other hairdresser, so I am not the redhead I want to be just yet again.

Thursday I got a few things done around the library. There is another leak in the ceiling above my office, one of the tiles was really drooping like it was full of water. But they took it down and there wasn’t a ton of water that came down thank goodness. I got some more weeding done too. After school was our monthly staff meeting. We can fill out little papers for “shout-outs” for other staff members that we feel have done a good job or helped us in some way. I got one from the counselors, which was much appreciated as crazy as things have been. I think they also did one for me last time we had a staff meeting, but I wasn’t at that one, I’d taken the day off.

Friday was a pretty slow day in the library. Our principal has given us some kind of treat almost every Friday this school year, and about once a month it is these delicious donuts from a local bakery. I woke up Friday morning hoping that is what it would be, and it was! I picked the yummy red velvet you see below. Quite often there are extras left over and I go back after lunch and grab a second chocolate glazed covered with chocolate frosting and mini-M&M’s. Unfortunately there were none left over when I went back to check.

Saturday was the day they were finally going to deliver my new exercise bike. Now I’d asked for later in the day hours because of work, but on the weekdays they had available, they would call and give me morning hours. So when I finally picked Saturday, when I got the times, it was 3:30-5:30 pm, which were the perfect times for week days, but kind of right in the middle of my Saturday. They got to my house shortly after 5, and weren’t done till a little before 6. So I didn’t get started right away. Here is my new exercise bike!

Books finished

The first was an ARC I got from the publishers for a review, which I posted on Monday. The second was an audiobook of an author I finally read and loved a short story by, so I found this quick audiobook and now I know I have to read more of her books! Also very excited to meet her at Book Bonanza in July now. The third was another e-galley I got from being on the author’s review team. Loved it, review posted on Wednesday. And the fourth was another audiobook, an author that I’m hoping to see again at Book Bonanza, so decided to get more of her books read as well. The fifth book was for another review this past week, on Thursday. The last book I fit in for one of my Challenge goals, my Series Ender goal.

New Books

ARCs:

none

Audiobooks:

None

Bookish stuff:

Thanks to Lauren over at Shooting Stars Mag and her TikTok, I ended up buying myself a new Vera Bradley purse in the cool Luna Lovegood print. I also had to buy a Sara Ney t-shirt.

E-galleys:

I finally got to read a book by Sarah Ready, Josh and Gemma Make a Baby, back in January and now I know I want to read all her books! So I went ahead and did my best to fit this next one into my blog schedule. And then of course I’m thrilled to read the next hockey book by Teagan Hunter! Both of these are for reviews next week! The third one is for a review blog tour in May. The last one is kicking off the next round of SmartyPants Romance books! Review coming next month I believe!

Free e-books:

Most of these were free on Amazon Kindle. I think all except the first two might have only been free on March 17th though. In My Heart was from the author’s newsletter, I already had it, but I liked this cover better, and there were updates to it I guess. The last one is a prequel that is free on Amazon as well.

Physical books:

Well, when an anniversary hardback edition was offered up by one of my favorite authors, Tara Sivec, I had to buy it. It came wrapped all pretty as you see on the left, and inside was a fun bookmark and the little inscription I won’t share, but if you read Tara Sivec’s books, you probably have an idea of how funny it was.

I also got a finished copy of a book that I have an ARC to read next week. I’ll take the finished copy and donate it to my school library, since I’ve spent all my money to meet the budget deadline, I would have had to wait until next year otherwise.

I won a copy of Mr. Wrong Number by Lynn Painter from Anne over at Books of My Heart and it arrived on Saturday.

And I’ve been wanting a physical copy of the final copy in the Port Snow series by Meghan Quinn, but for the longest time you couldn’t find it anywhere. Well someone in her group on Facebook posted that they’d just ordered it, so I immediately had to go and order it myself. lol It came this week too.

What I’m Watching

I really liked the second episode of Outlander‘s new season. Between Nicole at Feed Your Fiction Addiction talking about rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer with her daughter, and one of the stars of the show talking about how last week was the 25th anniversary of the first episode, I decided to start watching again. It’s so funny to see how young some of the actors were at the beginning. Especially David Boreanaz.

Now, it was annoying watching this on Hulu and having to see the commercials since I don’t pay for premium, then I realized I could watch it without that on YouTube TV, now that I pay for that. But while I was starting to do that, I saw the ad to continue watching The Underground Railroad show on Amazon Prime. I haven’t read the book by Colson Whitehead, but I’d thought the tv show sounded good too. I started it at one time, but didn’t get caught up in it right away, I think I must have been playing on my phone and didn’t actually watch it. But now I have started and it is really good!

I am hoping to get started this week, although I seem to have a bit of a head cold today, so not sure it will be today. Thanks for stopping by!

Well, it was about at the end of the window, but still! So glad to have it! Hope to use it this week if the head cold I’m getting lets me do that. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Aren’t cameras great? Once I had a ride-share client who said that her husband watches her to make sure she doesn’t take the car, since she doesn’t have a license.

    • Lisa Mandina

The cameras are nice, of course sometimes I start just leaving it on to watch how they’re acting. lol Thanks for visiting!

Well, there was a 15% discount on it, but yeah, it still wasn’t that cheap. However it was under $100, and I love that style of purse. I have bought them at their outlet stores in that style and know I like it. Well, it’s almost the style I like, it doesn’t have a zip pocket inside, which I wish it did. But it’s so pretty I love looking at it! Thanks for stopping by!

I’m guessing she probably ate something outside that I didn’t catch. The donut was yummy! I’m already hoping this Friday’s treat will be bagels, lol. Thanks for visiting!

It was fun to start again and see all the things I kind of forgot about. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Oh I went to Book Bonanza in 2019 with Kimberly, Felicia, Berls, Linda, Brandee and more. It was a month after I moved to this house. I’d like to go again but I am not ready for crowds, even though I would love to see everyone. Also I’d like to go to something like DragonCon again which has more fantasy / scifi. I love the Elle Kennedy books and met her at Apollycon in 2017 I think. When I read about you weeding I was thinking of gardening weeding. lol Of course it’s not that.

Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post

Lol, yeah, my weeding is books, not plants. I’m so ready for book events! But yeah, I can understand people not being ready for crowds yet. Maybe another year we’ll run into each other at a book con!

Well I went to get on the exercise bike today and found out the adjustment bar for the seat doesn’t seem to be on there correctly or else it is broken. I looked at the instructions and it doesn’t even look like the one in the diagram. Now I have to figure out what to do!I don’t think I found Buffy on Netflix when I looked and that’s why I was watching it on Hulu. I mean I have the DVDs, so really I should just get those out. Thanks for visiting!

Aw, poor guy! It’s so hard when they’re sick since they can’t actually tell us what is wrong. I can’t wait till I can get the bike figured out and working! Still having a few issues with how it was put together, and I paid to have them do it.
