Weekly Wrap-Up #58 – March 13th, 2022

Posted March 13, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 14 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer) and with Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Reading Reality).

I put up the St. Patrick’s Day image for this one, because that’s coming up this week! In my town there is a Snake Saturday parade that was this weekend, and several smaller suburbs have parades on the weekend as well. Normally my spring breaks have always been the week of St. Patrick’s Day, but not this year. This year I have to wait till the end of March. Which sucks right now when I’m ready for it, but I’m thinking coming back afterwards with less time than if I had it now will make me happier then.

Sunday was awesome because it was the first new episode in the Outlander series. While this wasn’t my favorite first episode of any season, it was still great to be back with my favorite characters. All their complaining about the taxes on tea was perfect for how I’m feeling after doing my taxes last week. Then we had thundersnow in the evening! And sleet. It also started again in the morning a little. A lot of school districts ended up canceling or going to virtual Monday morning, but not mine.

So Monday I drove into work carefully on the slick streets. But it had pretty much stopped by then, and by the time I drove home after work the streets were pretty clear. I was alone again in the library on Monday. I did a few things around the library, including putting up a display for National Crafting Month.

Let’s just say that Tuesday saw me in tears again. It was a Tuesday last month that had me in tears as well. My assistant again is gone. No idea when she’ll be coming back. I just wish they could get me a temporary person until she comes back. So the counselors, two of them, sent down new students to get a new laptop first thing in the morning, but neither bothered to email me ahead of time at all so I could not be running around last minute to do that. Then because so many people were out, I had to go cover a class one hour. Plus Tuesdays are the day I email all my virtual students with a progress report that I was sent Monday afternoon. Also on Tuesdays the Special Ed classes come down to check out books. Which is great, they come every week. But trying to do everything myself just gets so tiring. I’ve now found out that they will be sending seniors down to take tests and basically if their counselor isn’t there, guess who gets to do that. Ugh. Okay, enough complaining.

Wednesday I took half a day because I had a doctor appointment in the afternoon, rescheduled from the snow day at the beginning of February. It was nice to just leave halfway through the day. I didn’t feel bad about it at all, like I usually would feel guilty, but these days, not so much. They told me I needed to be there 15 minutes before my appointment time. So I got there at 3:15. Everyone else who came in got called back before me, and finally at 3:55, almost a half hour after my appointment time, I went up to the desk and asked. They said she was behind. About 10 minutes after that they brought me back to a room. Then I sat there for probably another half hour. The only good thing I guess, is that my doctor takes the time to listen and really talk to me about things, so I’m sure that is why she is running behind because she does the same with everyone. Wednesday night they were still forecasting that we could get around 4 inches of snow over the next 24 hours, so I was hoping for a snow day, because I just need it. Even if I will hate the extra days we’ll have to go in June to make it up since they don’t have the virtual set up like other districts do for snow days. And they called it off at 6:30 pm. So I knew my morning was going to be for sleeping in!

Thursday was another snow day. It was a very pretty snow. Falling lightly, roads and driveway mostly stayed clear of snow. Probably still too warm from the last weekend for the snow to not melt as soon as it landed. I enjoyed my day, and since it seemed to be mostly done, I went to bed a little earlier, well to read anyway, assuming there’d be school on Friday. Then a little bit after I’d gotten in bed about 9 pm, I got the call that they’d cancelled school for Friday.

Friday, yay for another snow day! I got up and read for a while first thing in the morning. Then got on my computer to do some blogging. In the afternoon I had the guy come back and I set up to get the bathroom renovation I wanted. Gave him the deposit and now plan to have it done in June! Hopefully I can get the financing too with taxes taking so much of my money that I had saved. I had been wanting to take my niece to see Turning Red when it came out, but it looks like it will only be on streaming. I also heard in a review that it might make it so parents have to talk to their kids about puberty, and since my niece is only 8, I decided to watch it before. The main character’s mom thinks she gets her period at the very beginning, so I don’t know if my sister-in-law will be wanting my niece to watch it. But I wonder if all her friends will watch it and so then it will not matter? Oh well, not my decision so I let my sister-in-law know and she will probably wait.

Saturday was another nice relaxing day, and most of the snow has melted. The evening meant the spring gem and mineral show was in town so I went to that. This time the show was packed! I didn’t get to go to all the booths because one of the people I went with had fallen right before they left their house to go to the event, and so she didn’t feel like walking much. She came so that we could go back into the wholesaler area, and that is where I got these two beautiful rings, for just a little over $50! Now it is just lab created opal, not natural, so that’s part of why it wasn’t that expensive, but that’s okay, because I love them!

Books Finished

The first two were for blog tour reviews this past week. The third one was an audiobook. I’d read another book by this author, and she is going to be at Book Bonanza in July, so I wanted to read/listen to more by her before I met her. The fourth one I had received from the author, but didn’t know if I’d have time to read. With my snow days I picked it up and devoured it, reading almost all day Friday to get it finished.

New Books

ARCs:

The first two were kind of surprises. Now I haven’t read Boyfriend Material yet, so I may try to do a books for trade on Twitter for a book I also want. The second one in that picture though, I just finished the audiobook of another one in that series and I am so excited to have a copy of this one! The third book, well I’d been searching and almost begging on Twitter for a trade. Couldn’t get anyone who had it to trade with me. A couple other people boosted my post, and tagged the author, and he reached out to me and said he might be able to get me a copy. He is an English teacher, or was, and said his librarians were always his favorite people because they helped him so much. So it was an awesomely quick delivery when I got it on Friday! I’ve got the e-galley from Netgalley already, but I wanted to own the physical ARC too! The fourth book is one I knew the publisher was going to send me. It comes out this summer, so look for a review later this year.

Audiobooks:

So I read Elle Kennedy’s story in the Year of Love anthology and loved it! So I decided since she is supposed to be at Book Bonanza I should try to read/listen to more of her stuff and meet her. This one was part of the Audible Escape, so it didn’t cost. I downloaded it and started listening to it, it is another short story.

E-galleys:

This is for a blog tour at the end of March.

Free E-books:

The first five were free on Amazon. The 6th one was for signing up for the author’s newsletter through another author’s newsletter. The 7th one was from an author’s own newsletter, and the 8th one was from the place I talked about last week, Prolific Words, but the author linked to it in her newsletter.

Physical Books:

I might have spent money on books this past week. Money I maybe shouldn’t have. But anyway, I didn’t get to read this third book in this series as part of a review tour, and while I did get the ebook, I decided I wanted to own a copy of the physical book too. The e-books have a male with no shirt on the cover, but I like the more discreet paperback cover.

What I’m Watching

So excited for the new season of Outlander. Now it started out back in the past when Jamie and Claire weren’t together, not my favorite parts of the series, we did get some interesting tidbits.

Also a new season of Survivor started this week. I guess they filmed this one and the last one back to back, so the people this time had no idea about some of the new twists that had started with the first season after the pandemic. The first episode had some good stuff, even one contestant that had to go home because of medical issues.

As I mentioned above, I watched Turning Red Friday night. It was pretty cute.

Saturday night I decided to watch The Adam Project, and I loved it! Of course Ryan Reynolds when he can be that funny snarky guy character is one of my favorites to watch.

  1. I don’t know what to say about your job situation, but at least the universe thought you needed some time off and gave you all that snow. Hang in there! Spring break is right around the corner (you get that, right?) You have to read Boyfriend Material. So cute! I listened to the audio and really liked it. I will probably do audio for Husband Material too. I loved Beauty and the Baller. It was really wonderful. Hope you enjoy all your new books.

Yep, two weeks till spring break. So ready! I do need to read Boyfriend Material. But figured I’d pass the ARC on to someone else for now and get another book until I can get it read. I’ll probably try the audio too maybe! Thanks for visiting!

  2. I can’t believe it’s almost St. Patrick’s! Wow seems like just yesterday I was lamenting that it was January and we had two months til spring lol. And sorry to hear about your assistant! Ugh. Sounds like you get pulled in lots of different directions…

The mineral show sounds really cool!

  3. Yay for snow days!! Sorry your assistant is out so much. I teach in a co-teaching environment and I know how it feels. They never bother to get a sub for my co-teacher when she is out because I can just handle it. Its super frustrating!

Exactly. And if I was just doing librarian stuff, and it wasn’t for over a month, I would not gripe as much. But it’s going to be almost two months by the times she is supposed to be back. Oh well. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Ooh you got Husband Material? I’m jealous! I’m so excited for that one!
That’s awesome you got some snow days to just relax and refresh. I could use some of those right now. LOL
I was kind of bummed Seeing Red is just streaming, but it’s one I do want to watch.

I’m trading that one since I haven’t read the first one. But yeah, I need to read Boyfriend Material! Thanks for stopping by!
