Weekly Wrap-Up #57 – March 6th, 2022

Posted March 6, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 34 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer) and with Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Reading Reality).

Back to full five day weeks again. And once again by myself in the library for who knows how long. I did ask my Principal if he thought there would be a chance of getting a sub, but he said probably not. They don’t usually do subs for clerks, and even if they did, we don’t really have any subs right now anyway!

So Monday I worked on more weeding in the nonfiction section. I feel like a weeding expert after I spent the last year of Covid at my last school working on weeding when I was able to get in the library and no kids were at school. Plus I have a goal, so I am working towards getting it where I want it.

Tuesday I was alone again in the library. Busy day. On Tuesdays I email all the virtual students I am a mentor for, along with their parents with a copy of the progress reports I receive every week showing their current amount of work and time spent as well as grades. I also had time to put up a display for Women’s History Month in my library. Here is a picture:

Alone again on Wednesday. Not sure how long I’m going to be alone. Did more weeding. It is also an early release day, so students go home at 1 pm every Wednesday leaving time for teachers to work with their departments, or other types of meetings. All my districts have done this since 2000, but this is the first one where the meetings weren’t organized. However I do know that the district changed to allowing teachers to have more work time this year, so it is possible that is part of it.

I found a new blog planner/calendar that I purchased last week and it arrived very quickly. While I’ve had a style I have used successfully for 3 or 4 years now, this one was just so cute and I wanted to try it out. So on Wednesday I put all my March stuff in and we’ll see how it goes! Here are pictures of the cute wrapping it came in and then what it looks like, along with some cute post-its I bought from the company which you can check out HERE.

I also did my taxes Wednesday night. And well, let’s just say I am glad I was so sure they didn’t take much out for taxes when I took my Kansas retirement money out early. Fortunately I saved enough of it, but what I did save, they are taking over half of. Which means if I do decide to do the bathroom renovation, I’ll probably have to do a finance option. Oh well.

Alone again on Thursday in the library, not that I expected any different. It was a little bit slower day. I’ve had a few more things I’ve organized and done. I don’t have as many library carts in my new library, not like the 10 or 12 I had at my last library. So I have the two main ones full of discard books. So while I did a little weeding today, I don’t really have anywhere to put them until I get the others boxed up or let teachers go through them.

And the week was me by myself the whole time. Friday though I got to talk to the architects again about the new circulation desk I’ll be getting when they do renovations in my library this summer, I can’t wait! That got me very excited. Then in the evening I met up with my mom and stepdad who were watching my niece and nephew while my brother and sister-in-law were meeting up with other couples from their church. We took the kids to an outdoor play area since it was so nice outside! Then we went and had BBQ for dinner. I had originally planned to do dessert and hang out the rest of the night, but then the place they were going for ice cream didn’t have a lot of parking spots so I went ahead and came home.

Saturday I went to see a movie and then just enjoyed the nice warm day as much as I could. My dumb dogs like to eat the dirt or whatever they find on the ground. It’s one reason I wish I had a better deck, so I could keep them on it and away from the dirt. Oh well.

I also won a prize from Lauren over at Shooting Stars Mag during her #FebruHARRY2022 posts. It was from the Orange Blossom Quilt Company. It was these cool Hufflepuff scissors and tape measure.

Books Finished

The first one was for a blog tour review this past week. The second I thought was a review this week, but I guess it doesn’t come out till the 8th, so look for the review this week. The third one was an audiobook. The fourth one was an ARC that I struggled to finish, it took me more time than it should have, and I kind of just skimmed the last third to get it finished.

New books

Physical books:

These are the two books I bought with the gift card I won from having the highest bid in the auction I talked about last week. I’ve read the Emma Hart one, but the other one is a book I have the original cover sitting on my shelf, but I had to have this new cute cover too! The publisher decided to change the name, thought it wasn’t selling because of that maybe? Here is the original cover:

Then I decided I needed a physical copy of the latest Meghan Quinn after seeing all the people post their pictures on Facebook. lol

Here is the book with the little book art and bookmark that I was the high bidder for this prize in the Romancing the Vote auction.

ARCs:

None

Audiobooks:

So when Penny Reid posted about one of her books being on sale on Audible, even though I’d already read it, I had to go look and then I got sucked in to buying a bunch. And using my monthly Audible credit on the newest one, Mr. Wrong Number by Lynn Painter.

E-galleys:

The first one is for a blog tour I signed up for. The second one I keep getting this author’s ARCs, I think I’m on a review team. But half the time I haven’t scheduled it into my blog calendar. Like this one, I don’t have it scheduled, and don’t know if I’ll have time to read it or not.

Free or Cheap E-books:

The first two were from authors’ newsletters. The Katee Robert book below it was also from her newsletter, but when I went to collect it, I forgot I’d received all these other books at one time through the website Prolific Works and had never downloaded them, so that’s where those came from.

What I’m Watching

I finished up All of Us Are Dead. It had a good ending, and definitely left some openings that could lead to a second season. I went back to rewatching the first season of Brooklyn Nine Nine. I also was happy with the finale of the latest season of The Amazing Race. I liked all three of the groups that were in the final leg. I continued my rewatch of Stranger Things again getting ready for the next season to come out later this year. I went to the movies on Saturday to see Dog. While I knew it would have sad parts, I honestly was kind of sad all the way through it.

  1. Interesting to see what life is like in a school library. And congrats on the win!

I need to watch All Of Us Are Dead. And I’m really looking forward to stranger Things. I was just thinking the other day where is the new season ha!

Yeah, I’m so ready for the next season of Stranger Things, but I know Outlander and then Bridgerton will be on before it is back! Thanks for visiting!

  2. Would they consider a student helper? At my old school, the librarian had some students that rotated in and out. Teachers had duty periods too. We signed the kids in, nothing major. The student helpers checked books out and shelved books. A library renovation is exciting. I hope it turns out great. I don’t know, I think the wiener name change was a good one.

We’ve got a student helper for the office that sits in the library one hour a day. I’ve been putting him to work with shelving books. Yeah, I know the name change will help it sell more. But us wiener dog owners, love a good wiener pun. lol Thanks for visiting!

I know, I think they definitely left it open in a couple ways for a new season. I am glad the one super-zombie guy is dead though! Thanks for stopping by!

I know it will sell better that way, but those of us who are wiener dog owners tend to enjoy a good play on the word wiener. lol Thanks for stopping by!

So far my new planner is pretty neat! Just transferring things from my old one. I didn’t have Mr. Wrong Number fit into my blogging schedule, so listening will be the only way I can get to it soon! Hopefully it has good narrators and works well as an audiobook. Thanks for visiting!

I’m a Staci Hart fan, love all her new stuff, and now I need to go back and read the older stuff, so audiobook sales are perfect for that! Thanks for stopping by!

    • Lisa Mandina

I want to read it, but haven’t had time to fit it in, but I know I can get to it as an audiobook!

It’s so hard not to when they are such a good price! I could have done worse. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I definitely feel you on the sub situation – that you probably would not get one for a clerk, even if they were available. As a SpEd teacher I get one half-day each quarter for progress reports. I miraculously had a sub, I think she is the second one I have had all year. It’s a mess.

Would your principal consider letting students help out in the library? Might not be a perfect solution but there have to be some bookworms who would love to spend study hall there helping!

    • Lisa Mandina

There are a couple TAs that I put to work when I can. And on Wednesday there was a sub just sitting in the library, so I put him to work. We don’t really have study hall much anymore. But yeah, I just hope my assistant is back before the end of the year.

I like that, lonely in the library. Maybe that should be my new dating profile name, lol. Thanks for visiting!
