Weekly Wrap-Up #56 – February 27th, 2022

Posted February 27, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 32 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer) and with Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Reading Reality).

The week started out with a bonus day off, well, President’s Day. Then it was back to work on Tuesday.

And because my assistant’s son is still in the hospital, that meant I was alone again in the library all week.

Tuesday wasn’t too bad. Then I had someone come over that night to give me another bid on the bathroom renovation. And I think I’m going to go with this one, they actually came in a little less than I had actually thought it should be before I got any estimates.

Wednesday was hell. I had taken the last hour and a half off from work, 1-2:30 to have my new mattress and adjustable base delivered and set up. Well they called at 9 am and said they were on their way. I didn’t realize you could tell them they had to stick to the original schedule, so I called my dad to go over quickly and meet them. Turns out that I hadn’t taken some things off the bed they needed out of the way. So they left all the new mattress, the base, and my old mattress just sitting in my house and left. Then one person in the company told me they couldn’t set the base up with my old bed frame there. So I called back and said to just come pick the base up and I would keep the new mattress. Well, that time I talked to a different person who told me to send her a picture and she’d check with the delivery people. Now the delivery people told me to just take those things out of the center like I thought and they could do it. They set a reschedule for Thursday, and I couldn’t take off more work, so hoped my mom would be able to be there.

Thursday was a CRAZY busy day in the library, alone again. The people came back to set up the base for my bed and my mom was able to be there, so it was nice to finally have it set up. Wednesday night sleeping on my little lounge/couch in my office wasn’t quite as comfortable as I’d hoped it would be. The delivery for my new adjustable bed base went off without a hitch. Now, since I wasn’t there, I wasn’t able to tell them I didn’t want it up as high as it went. So I did have a little bit of an issue getting under and lifting it up and shortening the legs. But once I got it done, I know I had a nice night’s sleep on it! We also got some more snow yet again on a Thursday. But this was a little dusting, maybe an inch if even that much.

Friday again alone, but it was a little quieter of a day for the most part. I’ve been doing a little organizing of things around the library as I have time, so that was more of what I continued today. We know we are getting some renovations done on the library this summer, so I asked my Principal if he’d heard any more about replacing the circulation desk and finding out for sure if I’d have to pack up all the books (we will). On Friday I decided to go ahead and get started weeding the nonfiction. I want to condense it enough to get rid of about 5-6 bookcases worth, or at least move them in with the other nonfiction so I can keep all the fiction together and still have room to put a neat little couch/sitting area with the fiction when it moves.

Saturday I got to cash in on an item I was the highest bidder on for the Romancing the Vote auction. One of the 3 items I was the highest bidder on was a one hour Zoom call with author Patty Blount to talk about anything I wanted. I asked her about help with writing and what to do when I got stuck. I got some really great info and ideas from her that I can’t wait to put into action on the different projects that I need to finish. One of the two other items I won was a first chapter critique from author Kathy Douglass. She reached out and said she was finishing up a book this week, so if I sent it now she wouldn’t get to it right away. So I’m going to work on polishing up that first chapter, once I decide for sure which one I want to send, and get it ready to send next week. The third item I won was an autographed copy of The Donut Trap by Julie Tieu along with a gift card to a book shop. Of course I spent the gift card almost immediately and am just waiting on those books to be shipped along with my autographed copy!

Books Finished

The first one I finished for a blog tour review that was posted on Thursday. The second one was an ARC I got from the publishers for a review this weekend. The third was an audiobook I won from the author. It was my first book by this author and I was excited to get to meet her at Book Bonanza this summer, but then found out this week she is going to wait till I think the 2023 convention to go. I don’t know if I’ll go next year too.

New Books

Physical Books:

So I’ve already read this, and I would have purchased a copy at some point. But, if you’re a fan of Penny Reid on Facebook, she does this thing where she picks one of her top fans every month to win something from a list of cool choices, like a Zoom call, being her assistant at a book convention, an autographed set of all the books in one of her series, or my favorite – a walk on role in one of her books. One of the winners from past months mentioned that was what she picked and when I asked which book, she told me and now I want to see it! I remember the character kind of, but need to see the name on paper! So cool! I always seem to lose my Top Fan status on FB right around the end of the month, but I’m working hard to keep it again!

ARCs:

I had been very excited for this one when I first heard about it last year, so when the publisher reached out and asked me if I would be interested, I jumped right on that!

Audiobooks:

None

E-galleys:

The first two are for reviews later this week. The third one is for a review end of April, beginning of May.

Free E-books:

What I’m Watching

Finishing up All of Us Are Dead this week.

I’ve honestly had good nights’ sleeps every night since I got it! Well, except for the dogs still waking me up several times a night. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Arrgh, delivery people can be so frustrating sometimes. Usually not the actual delivery people, but the way they are scheduled and lack of information. I have read a few books by Penny Reid and really liked them, but it’s been a while.

I have a few of her older books I need to read, but I am keeping up with all of them now, lol. It’s the actual delivery people in this case that have been a pain. The company contracts out and they’re not always great, I was told they were rude both days. 🙁 Thanks for visiting!

  2. That’s crazy about the mattress delivery. why does everything have to be so hard? Glad to hear you finally got it squared away though. All of Us has been calling me on Netflix- might have to give in 🙂

I was about ready to cancel and just have them come back and pick the base up and get my money back. The weird thing is that they won’t take the bases back, which makes no sense if it is still in the box. But it all worked out in the end. Yeah, I recommend All of Us Are Dead, something happened in episode 10 that was just whoa! Very depressing! But in a good way, if you get what I mean, lol. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. When my assistant couldn’t be there, I almost couldn’t function! I don’t know how you did it…

We’ve had lots of trouble lately with deliveries and service. I hope I don’t sound like an old lady, but it was much better in the old days!

Two weeks without her, and at least this week too I’ll bet. No idea when she’ll be back. Ugh. Agreed about the delivery stuff! Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I can’t believe you call an inch of snow a light dusting. A light dusting in the UK is when it looks as though someone spilt a bag of flour or powdered sugar 😂 So glad you got the bed sorted out (eventually).
You have some really great looking books too – happy reading!

Well, it wasn’t quite an inch of snow really the day I called a dusting. lol Thanks for visiting!

And I’ve got a stove coming in the next month or so, plus I think an exercise bike should be coming in the next week. As happy as I’ll be when they’re here, for now I’m kind of not looking forward to the whole getting it here part. lol Thanks for stopping by!
