Weekly Wrap-Up #55 – February 20th, 2022

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer) and with Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Reading Reality).

Another long week. Sunday night was nice seeing my family for our usual Sunday night dinner. My niece had made a cake Saturday for a project for school, then she brought it for us to share on Sunday night. It was the same recipe as the chocolate cupcakes she made for NYE. But in a cake form and with fun frosting!

Unfortunately my assistant’s son had been sick all weekend and they ended up going to the ER Sunday. They admitted him that evening and so it meant she was going to be out all week.

Monday was a busy day on my own in the library. And I went home and cooked myself a new recipe I got from an Old El Paso e-newsletter. I also had a leftover piece of cake from my niece’s cake as well.

Tuesday was again a busy day in the library. Parent conferences were taking place from basically a half hour after the end of the day until 6 pm. We were allowed to do them virtually, and while I’d originally planned to stay and work in my library, I decided I just wanted to be home. So I went home and sat with my laptop open to my school mail in case anyone reached out to me. I also had my evaluation for my job on Tuesday. It went well. I think they know I’m working as hard as I can and they’re just happy that I am there and doing my best in the crazy world of education. Honestly, it really isn’t the people I work with, or really the kids most of the time either, that are making education miserable. It is all the craziness of the pandemic world of education.

Wednesday the library was closed for testing in the morning. That means I could get some things done, right? Nope, I ended up having to help out with the testing. It made me think about how at my old school we had a testing coordinator who would train everyone before the test and they knew they were going to be there. I don’t know if everyone else there had been trained, but I had not. So it was not a fun deal. Fortunately, technically Wednesday was the last day of school for the week.

Thursday we got a bunch of snow in just the first hours of the day. Now I’d taken the dogs out at around 2 or 3 am I think and there was nothing. It wasn’t even doing the rain or sleet they’d said to expect. I think it finally started around 5 am? By 10 am, I’d had to shovel several inches of snow off my back deck and a little path for the dogs to potty TWICE! By the end of the day I think we had 6-7 inches. Here is a picture from 10 am.

While other school districts in the area either called school off completely or went to remote learning for the day, my district had already planned on virtual conferences. So while they did shut the buildings down in the district and close the day care, etc., I still had to be available all day, from 8 am – 8 pm if a parent reached out to talk. So I planned to use the day for lots of blog stuff, commenting on other blogs, and hopefully then I could use the day off, Friday, to just work on my writing! I actually ended up leaving my computer about 7 pm instead of waiting till 8 pm for conferences since I had not had anyone reach out.

Friday I had my rescheduled mammogram. It turned out fine, some cysts in the area I had noticed something different, but the doctor said nothing that worried him. I was going to spend the day working on my writing, but just didn’t get around to it, so I figured that I could maybe get out to the library on Saturday and work there with no dogs to bother me. Did some laundry, and rearranged some things around the house to get ready for my new exercise bike to be delivered hopefully soon. They had called earlier this week and rescheduled my mattress delivery for next week, so I didn’t get that today. Now I have to either hope to get the afternoon off next Wednesday if that’s when they will deliver it instead of the morning. I ended up staying by my computer again until 8 pm, this time for an auction I was waiting to see if I would win, as well as I also thought a package was going to be delivered. Well when it wasn’t there by 9 pm like they update said, I checked the postal website and it turns out it was in St. Louis yesterday morning, so no way would it be at my house today. I hate when they get my hopes up like that. I ended up also rearranging my bookshelves. I kind of moved all my favorite romance authors that I have multiple books of and/or have met or want to meet, into the bookcases behind my desk. I still wanted to keep all my other autographed books together so I condensed them down to the bottom of the bookcase along with the smaller one. I moved some decoration/knick-knacks out of the little cubbyholes built into the walls and moved my writing books and all my notebooks, as well as some of my blogging stuff into the cubbyholes so I could free up those shelves. I’m still trying to figure out one shelf of blogging supplies that I need to get rid of or organize, and that will give me a little more room to spread out my books I’d moved.

Saturday I enjoyed waking up on my own, not having to hear my neighbor starting their car up to warm in the morning, which then wakes the dogs up even on days I don’t have to go to work. I really wish my bedroom wasn’t on the same side as their driveway. Oh well. Then I just kind of lounged around and read and played games on my phone in the morning. I decided I’d wait till Sunday to work on my writing, and go see a movie instead. I’m paying monthly for the AMC theater A-List program where I get to go to up to 3 movies a week for about $20 a month. Of course over the last two years there have barely been enough movies to even go twice a month, which kind of covers the cost.

Books finished

The first two were read for reviews for author ARC teams last week. The last two I read for review posts this coming week.

New Books

Physical books:

None, although I did end up ordering a book because I hate that I don’t have any new ones, lol.

ARCs:

None

Audiobooks:

None

E-galleys:

The first two are for blog tours reviews in April. The third one is for a review later this month, and the fourth one is for a review in March.

Free E-books:
Cheap e-books:

I’ve read the first one, and need to read the rest, so when the author offered this for $1.99 this past week, even as just an e-book I had to buy it.

What I’m Watching

Finishing up rewatch of season 5 of Outlander. Thursday night I gave in and finally watched Encanto. It was cute. Although I had tears streaming down my face at the beginning. I also decided to go to the movie theater to see a scary movie. The Cursed was not quite what I expected, but still pretty good.

  1. I don’t think I’ve watched Outlander since the 2nd or 3rd season. I hated the season Jamie and Claire were apart. I am glad they are covering all the books for the fans though. I hope you read the Doggy Spa book because that’s a cute title.

Yes, I did not enjoy that time at wall. But once they get back together, that lead to some of my favorite episodes in that 3rd season! You should go back and try it from there. I’m hoping to get to the Doggy spa book, but we’ll see when I have time! Thanks for stopping by!

We had almost 60 on Sunday, and on Monday up to 70s! Of course a chance for a little more snow this week too. Crazy weather here! Thanks for visiting!

  2. Wow! That’s quite the storm! I live in a usually high snow area, but in the last five or six years, we usually only get one maybe two good snowstorms each winter. It doesn’t mean it’s not horribly cold, though.

Sorry it was so busy again and your assistant had that emergency so she wasn’t there to help you. I hope this week is better!

I’m guessing I’ll be alone again this week. Which is bad because I may need to take a day off myself. Yeah, we’ve had a few storms this year, but then the warm weather this last time melted almost all the snow within a couple days. But there’s more possible snow this week. Thanks for stopping by!

Didn’t actually have much to do virtually, but yeah, with my new job I miss it because I’m not enjoying this new job as much as my last one. Oh well. Thanks for visiting!

  3. Your Sunday night dinners sound nice. And wow- look at the snow! We got some to but not that much. We had a little mini blizzard yesterday with howling winds but todays it’s sunny and melting!

I’m glad you were able to get to the movies. I miss going to the movies as much as I used to. One of my favorite things to do before all this pandemic stuff. It’s nice now though because the last few times I’ve went it’s been a lot less busy ha ha!

    Have a good week!

Yeah, most of our snow was gone in a couple days because it was sunny and up to the 60s! The only thing I wish the theaters were still doing is leaving a seat in between each ticket bought on both sides. I miss the extra space. I’ve been once or twice with full theaters. Like the new Spider-Man movie was full. I could have waited till it wasn’t as busy, but I didn’t. Oh well. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Sounds like an exhausting week! Crazy how quickly the snow built up. I’m so grateful we don’t get much snow. I’m a big baby when it comes to cold weather and I think if it snowed very much I would refuse to get out of bed. Glad the mammogram went well and the doctor isn’t worried. I finally had my first one this past fall and it was definitely an experience. I’m glad it’s only a once a year thing. Have a wonderful week.

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, the mammogram isn’t fun. You’d think they could find a better way to do it, but for now it’s what we have to do. I wish I could have stayed in bed, but my dogs don’t let me do that. Plus it was a “parent conference” day and I had to be available at my computer. Ugh. Oh well. It’s done now, and the snow is mostly melted thanks to the warmer temps! Thanks for visiting!

    • Lisa Mandina

I was very glad we had already planned to be virtual on Thursday so I didn’t have to worry about driving either! Thanks for stopping by!

    • Lisa Mandina

It sounds like her son is still not able to leave the hospital, so I have a feeling she’ll be gone this week too. Family is most important though, so I totally understand for her! Thanks for visiting!

    • Lisa Mandina

Snow is fun, especially when the temps warm up so much like they did her the next couple days that it is gone quickly. I enjoy the fun first day if I don’t have to drive anywhere, but after that I’m ready for it to be gone. lol Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Wow, the cursed looked interesting. The snow does look beautiful but I’m sure it’s not fun when you have to take the dogs out. I really need to get back into my Meghan Quinn TBR.

    • Lisa Mandina

It is good to get the dogs to do their business quickly when we go out, but for my little dogs I’ve got to shovel a path, lol. The Cursed was definitely a good movie. Oh yeah, you need to get back to the Meghan Quinn for sure! Thanks for visiting!

    • Lisa Mandina

Oh judge away, I do NOT get to them very often, lol. But I hate passing them up and then what if I DO want them later.

  6. The cake sounds and looks good! I hope you all enjoyed it! I hope your assistant’s son is okay. I was sorry to hear he had to go to the ER. It’s already been a week here. One of my coworker’s sister was traveling when she developed appendicitis and he is the closest relative so will be taking a couple days off to fly to Phoenix to pick her up and bring her home. Then we learned today that one of our team members passed away yesterday. She had been really sick for awhile, but we are all still feeling the shock of it just the same.

That’s quite a lot of snow you got! Better you than me. LOL

I hope you have a great week, Lisa!

    • Lisa Mandina

Oh wow, that is a lot going on for you as well! Her son is still in the hospital and will probably be for the rest of the week. It’s rough! The snow is gone now though, we had 70 degrees on Monday and now it’s cold again, down to 5 degrees this morning. Thanks for stopping by.
