2022 Challenge Sign-Up Post

Posted January 8, 2022 by Lisa Mandina in challenge / 9 Comments

So I think I’m going to sign up for a few different challenges this year. I’m not going to stress myself out if I don’t make them. But I want to try to get more books off of my TBR bookshelf read. Because even though I know I tell myself I’ll stop buying books, I know I won’t completely, so this way maybe I can make a dent in them? I also want to do a challenge that if I can’t find, I might create my own, but to get to reading the free e-books I keep getting. Partly to be able to read books that are authors at Book Bonanza that I might decide to meet, if they don’t cancel it again this year. Now, for my birthday I asked for a little cart that I’d seen a lot of other bloggers, and bookstagrammers using, and it might end up being a TBR cart for me just like I saw some other people do. Here is a picture of it in front of my TBR bookcase.

Alright, so first is going to be the Tackle My TBR Challenge:

I completed this one last year, even if I didn’t end up reading the exact ones I’d proposed at the beginning. Once again this challenge is hosted over at Kimberly Faye Reads. Here are all the details:

  • The 2022 Tackle My TBR Reading Challenge runs from January 1 – December 31, 2022. You can join at any time.
  • The goal is to read at least ONE book from your TBR every month. It can be an ARC, ebook, audiobook or print – your choice. Any reading is good reading!
  • If one TBR book a month isn’t enough, set your goal higher! Do you think you can read five a month? Ten? Go big or go home! There are some goal levels below if that’s your thing.
  • You don’t have to be a blogger to participate. You can track your progress on Goodreads, Insta, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube… wherever you want!
  • Use #TackleMyTBR2022 on social media.
  • Feel free to use the banner graphic on your posts and/or social media.
  • Comment and let me know if you’re in!
  • Tell your friends! [Shorter link for sharing: https://ki.mreads.link/tacklemytbr2022]

Back again this year: challenge levels! (Unsurprising to anyone who knows me, they’re football-themed.) Pick a level, any level! (These are all based on a 1-5+ books per month average.)

  • Safety: read 12 TBR books
  • Blitz: read 13-24 TBR books
  • First Down: read 25-36 TBR books
  • Field Goal: read 37-48 TBR books
  • Hail Mary: read 49-60 TBR books
  • Touchdown: read 61+ TBR books

And because reviewing is so important, I’ve added a couple of bonus levels!

  • Extra Point: review half of the TBR books you read
  • Two-Point Conversion: review all the TBR books you read

Now I did end up reviewing all of my TBR books because I try to review every book that I finish! That’s why I blog! Hmm, my goal is really to do the Safety, 12 TBR books, because that is one a month and seems reasonable. But I have a few more on my shelf on my TBR cart that are possible reads.

So a few of these are books I won. Others are books I just HAD to buy because of seeing people talk about them, or I met the author in person and wanted to have one of their books. And a few are books that the publishers sent me and I wanted to read but just haven’t yet. There are 15 books there, but like I said, my goal is only 12!

Next is the Series Ender Challenge. It’s been a year or two since I’ve participated in this one, but I need to get back going on this one! Once again it is hosted by Somewhere Only We Know and World Fueled By Love. Here are the guidelines:

  1. This challenge will run from January 1, 2022 until December 31, 2022.
  2. Anyone can enter. You don’t have to have a blog just as long as you review your books somewhere: on your blog if you have one, Amazon, Goodreads, etc.
  3. Any genre, length, or format is acceptable as long as it is the last book in a series where all books in the series have been published and no more books are currently intended to be published in the series. If an author makes a decision somewhere during the year to add on to the series, we will count both the original last book in the series and the “new last” book in the series assuming the author isn’t going to write more than one additional book. Last book published in a series doesn’t count if more books are expected to be published.
  4. You can list your series enders ahead of time, but this is not required. If you decide to list them up front, feel free to change them throughout the year as necessary.
  5. When you sign up in the linky, please use the direct link to your post about joining the 2022 Series Enders Reading Challenge. If you don’t have a blog, please post about it on Facebook or Twitter and include that direct link as your sign up.
  6. You can sign up until December 15, 2022. This allows you to join the challenge at any time during the year.
  7. On the 25th of every month, we will post a wrap up on both Somewhere Only We Know and Words Fueled by Love with a linky for you to link up your reviews for the month. The monthly giveaway will be open until the next wrap up post goes up (ex. From January 25th to February 25th). For each link to a review, you will get an (1) entry into a drawing for that giveaway. This will be open internationally. Please link each review separately as each link in the monthly wrap up linky acts as an entry in both the monthly giveaway and the grand prize giveaway at the end of the year.
  8. Monthly giveaway prizes will be an e-gift card of your choice up to $5 (USD) from Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com. While the challenge and giveaways are open internationally, please make sure that you can receive e-gift cards via Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com. We want to make sure everyone has an equal opportunity to participate and to receive the prizes. Please remember that Holly and I are funding the giveaways out of our own pockets as something that we want to do, and we would like to continue to do so.
  9. If you miss a wrap-up post and giveaway, you can link your review the next month. Please do not try to link to one review twice. We will be verifying these.
  10. December will be the wrap up for the entire year. All reviews linked from January through December will be entered into a Grand Prize giveaway. Also due to Christmas, the December wrap up will post on December 23rd and will be open until January 23rd.
  11. You don’t have to follow Somewhere Only We Know or Words Fueled by Love to participate in the challenge, but you do have to follow both of us in order to be entered in the giveaways.
  12. Please make sure we have a valid email address or other means of contacting you if you choose to participate. Linking up to Goodreads is perfectly fine, but we have found that Goodreads is not a reliable source for contacting someone should you be selected as one of the monthly giveaway winners. This could be due to your Goodreads notification settings or Goodreads themselves could be at fault. We’re not sure which. And since we want to make sure that everyone who is eligible for one of the giveaways will receive their prize should they win one month or the grand prize at the end of the year, it is up to you to ensure that we can contact you and that you respond within a reasonable amount of time (usually stated in the email notifying you of your winning).

Levels: (how many series enders you are planning to read)

Level 1: 1 – 5
Level 2: 5 – 10
Level 3: 10 – 15
Level 4: 15+

To join the challenge:

  1. Write a blog post about joining the 2022 Series Enders Reading Challenge on your blog. For those of you who would like to participate but don’t have a blog, post about it on Facebook or Twitter.
  2. In your post, please include: the button, a link back to the sign up page, a link to both Somewhere Only We Know and Words Fueled by Love, the level you hope to achieve, and (optional) a list of the series you hope to complete.
  3. Place the button for the challenge in your sidebar (use the “grab this code” at the bottom of the post here).
  4. Link up in the linky using the direct link to your post/tweet/etc.

And that’s it! Welcome to the 2022 Series Enders Reading Challenge. Good luck!

My goal is 12 books, one a month, so I’ll be going for Level 3. I have a shelf for this one as well on my TBR cart.

So I have sort of participated in this one in the past, but not fully. This is hosted by Berls and Michelle @ Because Reading, Stephanie @ Once Upon a Chapter, and Lillian @ Mom With a Reading Problem. This one fits perfectly into my plan to get those free e-books I keep downloading read. So they do this for different seasons, and the rules are a little different each season, but I am going to join in and stick to my e-books for this one. COYER Winter runs from January-March, and here are the guidelines:

  1. Every book you read MUST be in an electronic format – meaning eBook or Audiobook. It’s okay to start a book before January 1st, you must be less than half way for it to count then review it during COYER.
  2. The books must be FREE or NEARLY FREE! This includes review books, tour books, NetGalley, Edelweiss, etc. What’s nearly free? No more than $3 for eBooks and no more than $5 for Audiobooks (or the equivalent in your currency). Library books, borrowed books, or Kindle Unlimited, Amazon Prime books, and Audible Plus Catalog books do not qualify for COYER Winter.
  3. Announce your participation! This can be a blog post (or if you don’t have a blog – Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Goodreads, etc.) If you want to list books you would like to read, that’s great, but not necessary. The point is to let everyone know you’re committed to COYER Winter, maybe share some goals, and help spread the word. Not sure how to do your post? Check out this example from a previous COYER.
  4. Link up! Link that post (not just your blog homepage) to the linky below.
  5. Review & Link Reviews! Your review may be on your blog, Goodreads, etc. Link the review to the Review Linky (which will open up January 1). When you post your review to the linky use the following format: Your Name @ Blog (if applicable): Book Title (e.g., “Michelle @ Because Reading: Twilight”).
  6. Follow & share reviews on Twitter. Use #COYER on your posts and look for tweets with the hashtag.
  7. Visit Each Other, Chat & Have Fun

I will be setting my goal like the others, 12 books. That will have to fit in alongside all the review ebooks that I read of course! Now, later in the seasons the books don’t have to be e-books, and while I’m saying here that I mostly will read that, some of my other TBR books are ARCs and such that will fit into this or books publishers have sent me. So I may change up later in the year as the mood strikes to reach my 12 book goal. Not going to do a list of 12 books today, just haven’t had the time to look into that. Maybe I’ll try to do that before the end of the month when I do my monthly wrap-up post and talk about challenge goals.

Yay! This is back this year! I think it wasn’t around last year so I haven’t done it since 2020. This one is also hosted by Berls and Michelle @ Because Reading is Better than Real Life. Here are the rules:

  1. Create between 5 or more resolutions related to books/book blogging/writing (there are examples below but you can make up your own)(you can have as many resolutions as you would like, there is no limit)
  2. Create a signup post and add it to the Linky on this post (sign up before Feb 28th)
  3. Since this is a year long challenge we ask that you pick goals with some longevity. Pick a goal that will take you no less than 6 months to complete.
  4. Once your goals are set you cannot change them.
  5. Three time a year we will have an update to see how you are doing. March 1st, June 1st and September 1st. The last update will be the wrap up post.
  6. For each goal you complete you get one entry into the giveaway that will be in our wrap up post on December 31, 2022
  7. The Winner will be picked randomly so the more goals you complete the better chance you have to win the $5 Amazon Gift Cards at the end of the year.

Here are my 6 goals:

  • Blogging: 1. Get my Netgalley percentage up to 80%. I’m at 78%, and have been for a while, so this won’t be as easy as it sounds. But I can fit some of my books for COYER challenge and even Tackle My TBR towards this. 2. Complete the 3 challenges listed above.
  • Reading: 1. As always is my Goodreads goal of 215 books. This year I will not drop it down just because halfway through the year it seems I might not make it, because I keep doing that and then still making it to 215. 2. This is where I want to do a series challenge that is a little different than the Series Ender Challenge. I might do my September is for Sequels challenge, but over the whole year. These are books in a series where maybe I got the first book for review, but not the second, and so the second is sitting on my shelf. Or again I bought it for an author I like and have read or listened to the others, but not this one. And then there are the few I bought after starting the series this past year. I have a shelf of these books on my TBR cart. Here is that picture:
  • Writing – okay, so I wasn’t going to do any writing. But then I found and bought a couple cool covers and now I want to write the stories to go with them! One I know for sure, kind of, which story I want it to go with. The other I loved the cover so much, I went ahead and bought it when no one else spoke up for it, and I will figure a story out. Okay, the goals: 1. Plan out the book for the first cover I bought, probably using the book I reviewed last month called The Romance Novel Formula along with ideas I’ve gotten from other writing books. 2. Have the outline ready to go for NaNoWriMo in April so I can start writing it! And if it isn’t finished then, that’s okay, I will continue to write and plan to have it finished being written over the summer. I’ll call it my summer of writing.

Final Thoughts:

Whew! Look at me signing up for all the challenges it seems! Wish me luck on getting them done and reading all the books! What challenges are you participating in this year?

Yeah, we’ll see how well I do! I have been thinking about setting these goals for myself with or without a formal challenge, just hoping signing up will help me complete them. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I don’t know if I’ll sign up for challenges. I do know I want to read a lot more screenplays this year, so If you find a blog hosting those let me know(wink)

    • Lisa Mandina

Hmm, I found a page that had a TON of challenges listed on it. If I could find that again, I’d share it, in case it had a screenplay one, which it might! Thanks for visiting and good luck with your goals too!

Ooh, I need to learn how to do the Challenge updates on UBB!!! Now I will be looking into that this weekend or reaching out to Ashley myself. Thanks for the heads up on that!
