Weekly Wrap-Up #45

Posted December 12, 2021 by Lisa Mandina in Weekly Wrap Up / 31 Comments

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer) and with Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Reading Reality).

Sunday afternoon I got to go play with some puppies at the breeder of my Argyle’s house, she is also a friend.

My friend also brought me a couple souvenirs from her trip to Mexico that she just got back from last week, my two favorite colors!

The passport holder has a pocket just for vaccination cards, so that is nice!

Monday and Tuesday at work were not bad. Same old same old really. But it was nice to have my assistant in the library with me both days. It is getting cold finally it seems. In fact, the whole week at work went by pretty quickly!

Thursday night my niece had a sort-of-dance recital. They didn’t have costumes, but they had two different classes do their dance twice and then after they were done, it was over and the next two classes and their families came into the small venue where they were holding it to watch their dance students.

Friday night I went to the movies and saw the new West Side Story. It was good, but since the story is basically a Romeo and Juliet retelling, the ending is kind of a downer.

Saturday morning I enjoyed a fun online party withe a new favorite author of mine, J.J. Knight. You can still win some prizes if you watch and answer the things she offers as giveaways before Monday here: https://www.facebook.com/jjknightauthor/videos/951619118777197

I also made my sign up post to participate in the Top 10 of 2021 HERE if you want to sign up yourself!

Then we finally got to have my nephew’s 4th birthday that evening. My brother and family are all over their mild cases of Covid thankfully. My 9 year old niece was excited to get to go back to school this past Monday and participate in her dance recital this week. My nephew was very happy with the gift I got him. My brother, his dad, had texted me after my nephew had barely been able to leave the store they saw it in because he was having too much fun playing with it.

Books Finished:

The first two were for review posts for the author this past week. The other two are for an author review post this week and the last one for a blog tour this week.

New books:

Physical books:

Every year Meghan Quinn has added some blackout hardcover books to the collection. I have only bought one last year, but have decided I will just collect one each year that she does it. I don’t need all her books that way, just ones that I don’t own. This year I decided to get the See Me After Class book because I love the teacher series. I also have always wanted a t-shirt with her motto on it, and I couldn’t help but get the color changing cup and all the fun stickers! I really do need to start putting these stickers on things though. I’m so indecisive!

They redid the covers with hot guys, and I liked these original covers so I had to buy copies of the ones I didn’t already own.

I had earned my $25 gift card from my Barnes & Noble credit card, so I bought some Christmas gifts, but had enough left over and decided to buy this novella. I haven’t read any of the newer books in this series, need to do that some day! Maybe I’ll put them on my TBR Backlist challenge for 2022.

I won this from Anne at Books of My Heart‘s blogoversary!

Audiobooks:

I got an email from Audible.com saying they were giving me an extra credit this month. I hadn’t spent my credit for this month yet either, so I ended up getting these two.

E-galleys:

All three for blog tours. I was worried about the last one, hadn’t heard anything, and then got it on Thursday! Started reading on Saturday and was hooked!

Free E-books:

I did stop myself from clicking on some links to where there were a bunch of free books to pick from this week. So that’s a win I guess.

Bookish Stuff:

I’m participating in the Festivus swap again through Penny Reid’s Sharks of Awesome Facebook group again this year. My awesome partner got me a blanket with Duane Winston on it! Yay! I would have waited to open with the rest of the stuff, but it came in a Walmart package and I didn’t know what it was so I opened it and was so excited! So this isn’t a book, but it is book related! I am still waiting on the rest of my gifts for the Festivus swap as well as my #TBTBSanta swap to arrive. 🙁

Another thing to share that isn’t a book, I always love the Christmas post card that Penny Reid sends out! Got mine this week!

What I’m Watching:

As I mentioned above, I went to the movies and saw the new West Side Story. While I’ve never actually seen the original, I knew the story basically because it is based on Romeo and Juliet, and of course there are always pop culture references to it.

Giveaways to Check Out:

How was your week? Did you get any good books? Are you binging any tv series you’d recommend? What are you looking forward to this upcoming week?

Yes! Now if I just get to ever travel again. I’m changing my mind about a trip I was going to take next year.

  1. I was just about to ask if you saw the original West Side Story. The story is sad, but meaningful. The music and dancing is phenomenal too. I was in it in high school, and I saw it at the local playhouse not too long ago. Great show. That Duane blanket is fantastic. How fun! A recital where you only have to watch your kid and maybe one other dance is sort of nice. I know I sound awful, but sitting through the little kid numbers when your kid isn’t in them is punishing.

I think this new WSS is pretty much the exact same as the original. I mean even some of the dancing that seems kind of silly for a gang to be doing was exactly the same. But I still enjoyed it! Yeah, I get that the recital was probably easier that way. But I did miss the costumes for sure.

  2. I loved the JA Huss Turning series, hope you enjoy the audiobook. That’s an amazing haul of books and bookish goodies, though the cute doggie pictures and keyring are even better!

I signed up for this book through Social Butterfly PR. I don’t technically review it on my blog until the end of December even though I read and am supposed to go ahead an post my review tomorrow. Yeah, she’s an auto-read/buy, and I sign up for every blog tour of hers that I can!

I feel very lucky that they had such mild cases. I guess the new one is pretty much the same as the old one from what I can tell. Even some of what always seemed very goofy dancing for a gang. But it was still good! Thanks for visiting!

Meghan Quinn is one of my top favorite authors! And Sara Ney as well. Ever since I begged to be on Sara Ney’s review team a year or two ago I have made sure to read every book when it is offered, even when I sometimes might be a little overbooked for reviews. lol

I had never seen it either, but it was good! Yeah, I gave in last year and bought one of the black-out covers. I am only letting myself buy one a year though! lol

Of course my sister who lives in Scotland said they don’t have cards like we do, that they just have papers? So I guess maybe that passport holder is only good for US people.

Sounds like you had a pretty good week. I’m glad your family is feeling better and your nephew had a nice birthday celebration!! Love the passport holder, and that’s awesome it has a spot for your vaccine card.

I want to see West Side Story!
