Weekly Wrap-Up #43

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer) and with Stacking the Shelves (hosted by Reading Reality).

The week started out not too bad. There were only two days of school, and my assistant got to be in the library working with me both of them. Both Monday and Tuesday went by pretty quickly! Tuesday night I went to the movies, saw Dune, because I wanted to see it on the big screen before it was no longer there. I’ve never read those books, and actually had always assumed they were fantasy until I found out recently they are science fiction. I enjoyed the movie too!

Wednesday I had someone come over to start working on the little path I had kind of started to keep my dog from getting muddy when he and the dog next door are having fun barking at each other. Here is a before picture, and then the picture of what they got done on Wednesday. Had to wait till Sunday or Monday to get it finished.

Wednesday night I went to see the new Ghostbusters movie. I liked it for the most part! Although I feel like the kids just knew how to use all the equipment and that was kind of far-fetched.

My Thanksgiving started off not so great. I was looking forward to sleeping in and then I would get up about 9 am, do some blogging, then go hang out at my dad’s house before we had a late lunch for Thanksgiving at about 1 pm. Then dinner was supposed to be at my brother and sister-in-law’s house with my mom’s side of the family at 5 pm. I got a call at 7 am that my sister-in-law had Covid. So now we had to move the whole thing back to my mom’s house, where we usually have it. But my mom was really upset and stressed, so I immediately got up and went to pick up what I could from my brother’s house to bring it to her. Plus he works for one of the companies that make the rapid Covid tests, so he sent some home with me. My mom, step-dad, and I all took the test and were negative. However my dad didn’t want me to come over I guess because my sister’s fiance has a lot of health issues. Since I was still going to get my mom’s dinner, I figured it was fair to miss out on their dinner so my sister could still have one herself.

Friday I took the second test in the rapid Covid test box and once again got a negative. I haven’t had any symptoms, but since I’d been in contact with her last weekend, I wanted to make sure. I also found out that now my brother and niece have it as well. They all have a mild case though. So I am grateful for that. I also went to my dad’s on Friday to get my plate from their dinner.

Saturday I decorated my tree and put together my new vacuum. I also found out that now my nephew is positive for Covid as well. So far they all just have the achy body and nothing worse. My fingers are crossed that this is all they have to deal with. I went and ordered my new iphone too, since my contract was ready for an upgrade. But I have to wait till Wednesday I think to get it. Saturday night I went and saw another movie. It’s the first time in a long time I’ve seen 3 movies in one week to use up my AMC theater A-List pass which gets me three movies a week. Here is a picture of my tree. I think I might still go get some strings of gold beads. The gold tinsel I thought I’d use was too much. And next year I think I’ll do a bigger tree too maybe.

Books finished:

The first four books read were reviewed, the audiobook is not yet reviewed since it wasn’t for a review/tour, and the last book will be reviewed this week!

New books:

Physical books:

I had to order the exclusive B&N edition of Our Violent Ends because it had a special extra story at the end. And then I also needed this extra Clanlands Almanac when I was at the bookstore. And while I keep telling myself to stop buying bookmarks since I don’t really use them, I had to have this one. It’s hard to read in this picture but it says:

Books are just word tacos.

On Saturday I got an ARC from Imbrifex books who had reached out and asked if I wanted to review this title. I thought it sounded good, so I said yes. Above is my Instagram photo that I may have shrunk quite a bit more than planned when I changed the size.

So, yeah, that’s not a book. But, and this is crazy, I bought this and it is the whisky that Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser on Outlander, has been selling. It was expensive. And I don’t actually really drink. But I had to buy it! And I will probably try it. Even though I have never liked whisky.

E-galleys:

I think I already had the first, but couldn’t find it on my e-reader. So I got it again from the author’s reader team and should be reading it in the next week or so! The second one came Sunday morning and is for a review in a couple weeks.

Free E-books:

Most of these were from signing up for author newsletters or from a newsletter I subscribe to that does a free book every month of the year. The last one I didn’t realize I had DNFed another holiday book from the same author at one point, so I don’t know if I’ll actually try this one or not. Of course who knows when I’ll get to any of these! At some point I need to stop.

What I’m Watching:

I went to see two movies this week.

I actually enjoyed it quite a bit!

Now, I really did like this one too. I just had one issue. And that is when the kids seem to just know how to use all the equipment as soon as they see it. That was a little bit out there for me. But I loved all the parallels to the original movie and all the differences as well! And of course always impressed by one of my hometown favorites, Paul Rudd.

And while I don’t play the videogame, I’ve enjoyed the movies in the past, and was trying to get in one more movie this week, so I picked this one.

Giveaways to check out:

Fortunately they all seem to have a very mild case of it. I liked the new Ghostbusters movie. I wasn’t sure if I would, but ended up being very pleasantly surprised! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Sorry to hear your family members got Covid. I don’t have a lot of trust in the rapid tests. My parents had both tested negative with rapid tests, and a day later, positive with the PCR. My cousin’s family had the same experience with false negatives. Watch your symptoms (though my parents had none, only I did)

Do you know which brand of the rapid tests they used? My brother works for Quidell, and so the tests were from his company and they’ve been pretty accurate with everyone I know who has used them. I’ve had no symptoms, and took the second test in the package a day later to make sure. Anyway, no one in his family was vaccinated either. :-O So that is kind of on him for that. So far they only have very mild cases, so hoping it stays that way. Thanks for visiting!

Ah. Yeah these are ones you can do yourself at home. Who knows. My brother and sister-in-law are kind of “those” people who didn’t want to get vaccinated until it had been more tested. Of course now they can’t get the vaccination for a while anyways because they tell them to wait so long after getting Covid I think. Who knows if they’ll do it at that point either. I think it’s kind of weird that my brother who has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for so long was hesitant about getting the vaccine. I’m hoping their cases stay mild as well.

Thanks! Yeah, they seem to only have mild cases, so I’m hoping it stays that way as well. I am reading Love Stories now and enjoying it. Hope you do as well!

It’s weird because I always assumed they were fantasy, not science fiction. I’ll probably never read them at this point. lol I need to finish reading the Outlander books, love the show, and the first book was good. But they are so big and the second book is slowing me down.

Of course my brother and sister-in-law weren’t even vaccinated. So it is kind of on themselves for getting it. Hopefully their cases stay mild. It will be a bit before we can see them again, after my nephew’s birthday actually, had to postpone his 4th birthday party for the 11th of December.

  2. Oh, that’s a bummer! Glad to hear their symptoms were mild at least. I would like to see Dune at some point even though I haven’t read the book either. Ghostbusters, too! Love Paul Rudd. Have a lovely week!

I’m thankful that is all they have and hope it stays that way and goes away quickly. Thanks for visiting!

  3. Oh I love your tree! Cute. and yay you got to see Dune. I still need to see that. Between that and The Eternals I need to get my butt to the theater lol. Sorry to hear about Thanksgiving- getting a Covid diagnosis right at the last minute like that is tough. I hope her case is mild.

The whisky looks nice too. I don’t drink a lot either but that looks worth a try ha ha!

Hope your new week is a great one!

    • Lisa Mandina

I did really like the Eternals too! Hope you get to see them. So far my family is all having mild cases. Fingers crossed that’s all they end up with. Yeah, I’ll probably at least try the whisky, although I can already imagine the face I’ll make because I won’t probably like it. lol Thanks for visiting!

  4. Daaaang! That pesky COVID is causing all kinds of trouble!!! Glad your family just seems to have a mild case of it, but still! How annoying.

    Your tree looks really pretty!

    • Lisa Mandina

I guess we’re just lucky that this is the first family member I’ve had that has gotten it. I’m just hoping they are lucky and don’t get really sick. Thanks for visiting!

  5. I so miss going to the movies!! Very jealous. Glad to hear you’ve tested negative. And thanks for your consideration! I wish all people want to be like you.

At least you got some good reading in and some great books to look forward to!

I still have a full week of work left this week and then next week is only 3 half days. So excited!!

Have a good week Lisa and take care of yourself.

I try to be considerate, I know I don’t want to get sick, and definitely don’t want anyone else to either if there is anyway I can help it! Ooh, the week before having time off is always so long! Hope you have a good week too!
