Weekly Wrap-Up #24

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

Last week I mentioned how my niece always does an art show. This year she decided to have a theme where she did artwork like specific famous artists, and then she had a little quiz for those of us who wanted to try to match her art with the artist. This was so neat to me because the school I worked at for the last 8 years was an art and science magnet school, and our kids doing the International Baccalaureate diploma for art would do an art show their Senior year and they had to talk about the artists they used as their own inspirations. She also made bracelets to sell for $2 a piece, and then she donated her proceeds from that to the Ronald McDonald House. Here are some pictures I took of her show!

I had to drive over to my dad and stepmom’s house every day this week to feed their outside dog. I ended up staying there a couple of those days to do some writing. I also went to the really nice library that is closer to their house than mine one day to do some writing. I’m still on track with my Camp NaNoWriMo!

On the job front it is getting closer and closer to time to start my new job! If I was still at my old school, I found out from one of the teachers there that they have taken away the classroom he and another teacher used as an office, and they are putting up some cubicle walls for him to have an office in the back of the library where my co-librarian and I had tried to create a nice little comfortable lounge with couches for the students. I know it’s not my library anymore, but it makes me sad. I also found out that they may be giving all the district staff $500 pay for working last year. But I won’t get it since I no longer work there. Which doesn’t seem fair when I did work last year, and I even came into the building when I really didn’t have to. Oh well. I had plans for things to do with my retirement money this end of the summer time. But I guess I’ll hopefully get it around Christmas time.

It’s really been hot here this past week. I’m ready for fall and even though that means back to school and getting up early every morning again, I’m tired of walking out and immediately sweating.

I got four books finished or completely read this week. And I will have one DNF to share later, as well as possibly another that I started this week. Technically You Spin Me is an audiobook that I’d been listening to for a few weeks.

New books:

The book I bought last week arrived this week. I also ordered some bookish merchandise, a t-shirt and sticker. And, they’re not really book related, but as I was wandering through my favorite flea market like I like to do on days I don’t need to spend money but want to shop, I found two collector’s edition Buffy the Vampire Slayer dolls! Had to buy those!

Free e-books:

The first one I am VERY excited about! I loved the first two in the series and there was not a blog tour for the third one so I hadn’t gotten around to it yet. It was free this past week and I scooped in and grabbed it when the author told us about that!

What I’m Binge Watching:

Well, I finished up Sex/Life, and that’s why I bought the 44 Chapters About 4 Men by B.B. Easton that I showed up above. I’m hoping to get to meet the author at Book Bonanza in July 2022, but now that the show is out, I am afraid her line might be too long. I already own the ebook of this, but wanted a book for her to sign. I’m continuing to re-binge Cobra Kai, got to the third season and remember how much awesome stuff was in this season. I rewatched the second episode of Supernatural, and really it was kind of boring, I had trouble finishing it. I’m guessing at the time it first came out I didn’t used to sit on my phone because there is no way I would have continued this show after that episode. I also resubscribed to Paramount Plus so that I could see the second season of Evil that is only available that way I guess. It’s kind of good so far, although I’m not sure about a few things some of the characters are doing. Like the female lead, she’s kind of going way off track from what I remember about her.

  1. Your niece’s artwork is beautiful! I loved the sculptures. My heart did a little flutter when I heard she donated to Ronald McDonald House. I volunteered there, I guess in 2019, and it is amazing what they do for the families.

She is definitely a budding artist! That’s great that you volunteered there! I have a friend whose daughter has brittle bone disease and I know that they’ve been helped by the Ronald McDonald house in the past, so it’s a great organization.

  2. Oh I’m excited for Evil! Thanks for the reminder! Good luck at your new school. I agree-it doesn’t seem right that you wouldn’t get the money just because you aren’t there any more. I mean, you were there THEN and that is what the money is for. Bummer.

I know I resubscribed to Paramount Plus before Evil started, but I kept forgetting to go watch it. I think they need to reframe what they are saying the money is for. Like a loyalty bonus or something. It shouldn’t be for working last year. I just have to remember that I’ll be making a lot more money at my new job any way, so in the end it all works out.

  3. Love your niece’s art show! Very clever an creative indeed.

Glad to hear you are excited for your new job! Always something to look forward to. It’s difficult to let go of our old “domains”. Especially something is intimate as a library! I’m sure the new job will help a lot.

Hope you will have a good week with some awesome books to keep you company.

  4. Your niece is talented! Bummer about missing out on that $500. It doesn’t seem fair to me either. Hope you enjoy that Penny Reid. I’ve enjoyed her books in the past. Miss Buffy the Vampire Slayer!

I assumed my sister-in-law suggested it, but no, my niece came up with the idea! I was so impressed. Thanks for visiting!

  5. Oh that’s cool about your niece’s art show. How neat! And good luck with the writing! I’m with you on the heat, although actually it’s been mild here lately- unseasonably cool for July- but I know a lot of people are having super hot weather.

Curious about the new April Henry!

That’s good to know about Cobra Kai- I’ve been wanting to start S3 but haven’t yet but you’re talking about how good it is makes me want to start ASAP!

  6. I love the art show photos. I used to make Harley quilts and raffle them off and then give the proceeds to Ronald McDonald house in our area. I’m with you. I’m done with this heat and really it’s just started. The hottest time is July and August. But I’ll just do more indoor projects. I loved You Spin Me and I’m on the tour for Just Folking Around but that tends to happen after the book releases.
