Weekly Wrap-Up #22

Once again I’ll be linking this up with the Sunday Post (hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer).

This past week wasn’t too bad. Some good things, some annoying things, but mostly just hot outside. I did get to have lunch with a friend that I hadn’t really seen since last summer. Back then she and I got lunch and ate at her house. This time we were able to go out to a restaurant and eat there. Of course it couldn’t be the Chinese buffet that we used to always meet up at, because, yeah, who is eating at buffets right now?

Saturday we celebrated one of my sisters’ birthday early since my dad and step-mom are going to visit my other sister who lives in Scotland on Monday, and they will be gone for a whole month.

I got an email from the American Library Association committee I’ve been working on for the last two years thanking me for my service and reminding me my term is up the end of this month. I think instead of necessarily trying to get back onto another committee for that, I’m going to try to get involved in my state school library association again, now that my job is back in Missouri where I live. The Kansas school library association wasn’t really anything like what Missouri has, so I never really got too involved with them. But while I was still teaching, and trying to get a school library job, one thing I did was get really involved with MASL, and I wasn’t able to serve on any committees or anything since I wasn’t a librarian at the time. The one thing they did let me do is be part of the reading selection group for choosing the state award nominees. In fact I believe my first few entries on this blog back when I started had to do with the books I read back then for that.

Oh yeah, one really good thing, I think it is good anyway, about this week is that I got out to a library and I got some writing done! Not only did I get a little more writing done, I was able to do some outlining to finish up the novel I was working on. My July writing goal is going to be to participate in Camp NaNoWriMo and hopefully finish up that novel. I want to get it complete so I can really then go back and start revising and editing and find a beta reader to help me out.

I also got all my email subscribers moved over to a new site now that Feedburner is going away. You can read my post about that HERE.

Got some reading done this week too. Not as many as last week, three read and finished, and one audiobook.

New books:

I didn’t buy any physical books this week (not for myself anyway), however I did do a little splurging on the Audible sale.

A couple are the starters to series by authors I’ve read before and love. Room for More is the sequel to a book I read and haven’t read on in the series yet. And Flirtasaurus, one of my top reads of 2020, I decided for the price I’d like to listen to the audio version of it as well.

I joined in this past week to the Top Ten Tuesday theme of Bookish Wishes and listed a top 10 of books I was hoping for, and then I went and granted about three different bloggers wishes. I was lucky and got one of my wishes granted with this one! Thank you to Laura at Literacious!

E-galleys for Review:

The first one I’ve already read and reviewed. I’m listening to the second one for a review in July, and just started reading the third one on Saturday. The last one is for a review in July as well.

Free e-books:

What I’m Binge-watching:

I noticed some other people talking about this in their weekly wrap-up posts and I thought it would be fun to do. Of course I’m always rewatching Outlander, and I did rewatch the whole Bridgerton series over the last two weeks as well. The two newer ones are Them – which I just finished. That one I can say took a while to finish, because while it had a horror aspect to it, it had some realistic storyline about racism and that was hard to watch at times. And then last night I finished Panic – which was brought to my attention by Greg at Book Haven. Let me tell you what, I really liked Panic, and am highly recommending it, especially after episode 5! Here are the trailers for the two main ones this week. While I’ve read and enjoyed other books by Lauren Oliver, I haven’t ever read Panic, but now I kind of want to!

Last week’s posts:

Reviews: My Contrary Mary by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows, Jock Royal by Sara Ney, and Fortunate Son by Jay Crownover

Promo posts: Cover Reveal: The Sweetest Thing (SWANK #2) by Maya Hughes, Cover Reveal: The One Month Boyfriend by Roxie Noir, and Book Blitz with Giveaway: Other People’s Butterflies by Cora Ruskin

Giveaways:

Final Thoughts:

How was your week? Did you get any good books? Did you get swept up by the Audible sale like I was? Are you binging any tv series you’d recommend?

It definitely helps me get stuff done to be away from my needy dogs. I love them, but they don’t seem to understand sometimes I have things to do other than sit and pet them. lol

  1. Now you have me wondering if there are any buffets anymore. They got rid of the salad and olive bars at my supermarket. My mind is going now too, because some cruise lines are resuming business. Is this the end of all that fabulous eating? I digress. That’s great new about your writing. Glad to hear inspiration hit. I did nothing about my emails. We have this list of over 1200 email addresses, but I feel like nobody really cares. Why bother? It’s good to see you are not having problems with Follow It. It’s been a long time since I read the Cranberry Inn books. That was a good series. I remember the kids being really cute.

Well, I did go to a Pizza Ranch restaurant the other day, and they had their buffet wide open, so I guess some places are back. I did the email thing, but hope to not have to do it again, I’m really hoping that this Follow site lasts and works! It has been several years since I read the first book in the Cranberry Inn series, so I hope I remember enough to listen to the second book. Thanks for visiting!

I did love Fortunate Son! Glad you did too. It is nice to get out and start seeing people, other than work and family, for a change. Thanks for stopping by!

My libraries aren’t always as quiet or peaceful as I’d like, but at least I don’t have my two dogs there giving me sad puppy eyes or barking when they think I should be sitting and petting them all day. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. It’s great that you were able to have lunch out with a friend after so long! You’re right about buffets though, probably not the best choice yet. Glad to hear you got some writing done. I didn’t know there was a July event for NaNoWriMo. Enjoy!

Here’s my SUNDAY POST post this week. — Diana

They do a Camp NaNoWriMo in usually April and July I believe. It’s where you can set your own goal. I choose only 20,000 instead of the 50,000 that November NaNo is. But who knows how much I’ll get done. Fingers crossed that I keep up the writing streak I had last week! Thanks for stopping by!

It is a lot of fun! I mean the characters when they call in to a radio station have to wait till they get home and use a phone that is attached to a wall. It’s so fun to look back at that time. The rest of the books that I’ve read in the series were fun as well. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Wow, can you even imagine eating at a buffet these days? Ack! But over the weekend I was out and passed a buffet restaurant that was open… and was packed! I was shocked. Not these days! Hooray for getting some writing done… go you! Fortunate Son and Grace and Glory are both high on my TBR. I plan to read both in July.

    • Lisa Mandina

Yeah, I’m going to pass on the buffets for now. Hope you get to both in July and enjoy them as much as I did! Thanks for visiting!

  4. You’d be surprised about buffets. I drove past a local Chinese buffet and it was packed. And this was in like April before too many people had the vaccine in the U.S.

Which ALA committee was it? I’m just being nosy because I work there. And you reminded me that I need to email my committee members this week lol.

    • Lisa Mandina

Crazy! No buffets for me for awhile for sure! Unless it is where the restaurant serves you, not self serve. How did I not know you actually worked for ALA? How cool! What an awesome job! I have served on the Intellectual Freedom Committee for the last two years. I have to figure out how to get on another committee if I decide I still want to do that next year. Of course I also want to get more involved in my state library association, so I may wait on ALA committees. What committee are you on?

  5. I did a quick Google on that American Library Assoc committee and it looks like they have tons of committees and councils. Which one(s) did you do and how did you choose it/them?

Thanks for reminding me about Panic. I want to see that! Right now I’m alternating between To The Lake, Z Nation, and Lupin. All really good.

Them!!! Ohmygod was that a trip or what? I started out being outraged and advised everyone to stay away from that series. Then I educated myself with some interviews with the people behind it, continued watching the entire series and started saying EVERYONE MUST WATCH THIS!!!! Except of course the people who absolutely cannot watch ANYTHING scary. I totally get that some people can’t do horror.

I was on the Intellectual Freedom Committee. I remember applying for a committee position a couple years ago, and I must have marked that one as one that I’d be interested in. Then I got selected for it. Of course I haven’t always kept my ALA membership up thanks to money, but I’ve had to while I was on the committee. I’ll have to look up To the Lake and Lupin, I haven’t heard of either of those. My sister suggested Cruel Summer, so I might try that next. Yeah, when I knew who created Them, I knew I wanted to watch it. It was really good, except the ending was pretty unsatisfying for me. My sister said she thought it would have been just as good without the horror part, but I kind of was drawn to it because of that at first.

  6. I am not currently binge watching anything at the moment – I think I am still hung up over the brilliant Mare of Easttown: the new crime-drama on Sky/NowTV, starring Kate Winslet! ??
